New York Area hoopers, don't miss this opportunity to workshop with Ali Luminescent in her hoopdance workshop next week in Brooklyn. Check it out: http://goo.gl/iu9tP

Hey Patty! I live in Greenpoint and hoop on my roof. :) I teach 3x/week in Williamsburg if you're looking for class. If you're looking for jams, there TONS of jams posted weekly on two different facebook groups (If you're on facebook) NYC HOOPING and Hoopily Ever After in NYC. The TrooHoops website is also pretty good for events and classes.
There will definitely be more jams popping up especially as the weather dips. If you're interested in co-leading a North Brooklyn jam with me give me a shout: bex@senseofmotion.com. I'd love to hoop with you!

Hey Sairz,
you've definitely got the million dollar question regarding space to hoop in NYC! It's one of the biggest challenges as a hooper here, where to go?!?, especially when the weather goes south for the winter.
Carol and Ananda both mention our ample outdoor rec spaces, and even if large parks are too far/ too much effort, most neighborhoods have little playgrounds or green spaces for you to throw down. If you're lucky, you may also end up in a building that has roof access, and you won't have to go very far at all.
In the colder and rainy months, our strong hoop community of over 300 hoopers have frequent indoor jams across the city and boroughs. Hoopers often rent large spaces and open the floor for others to join at very affordable contributions, most under $10pp. There are also a number of area classes for a little more $$ you can drop in, get your hoop on and get top notch instruction at the same time. Come on up to the Big Apple and get your hoop on with us worry free! When you do, find us on facebook at NYC HOOOPING and Hoopily Ever After in NYC - two groups dedicated to NY hooping. xoxo
Comment by Carol Boyko on September 14, 2012 at 6:02pm Sairz - I struggle with this problem on a daily basis and I must say when I lived in other areas my hooping increased drastically. But don't take this as discouraging, instead look at it as what not to do. I'm a shy hooper so I don't go out alone and hoop in parks, but there are plenty. You can always move near one such as Central or Prospect. Playgrounds have space to hoop as well, which there are plenty of. I love hooping in my apartment, but my moved are limited indoors. If you have the passion, there's a way! Don't let anything stop you from coming to this amazing city!
Hey Sairz ward! Welcome to NYC! Space is hard to come by - but there are lots of parks that are great to hoop in, and another thing you can do is not buy much furniture - then you may have room to hoop in your apartment!
Comment by Sairz ward on September 14, 2012 at 11:00am Hi there... I'm Sairz, I've lived in Orlando, FL my whole entire life, but it looks like that's going to be changing in a couple of months. While I'm deciding to stay in Florida, or move to New York City with my boy friend.
NYC has never really been on my list of cities to move to, so I have my reservations. The big thing for me is loosing space; namely, space to hoop in. I know things are way expensive up there, so I'm worried that until I find a job I won't be able to afford a gym membership, and in the interim I'll have no open spaces to hoop in.
Could any NYC hoopers give me some pointers, or insight into what living in NYC is like?
I'm already scared and excited all at the same time about moving out of Orlando finally.... but like, whoa, it's a whole other state, a whole different climate, a different mind set of people....
Anyone know what I'm getting myself into?
