We are different, creative, special.... I believe there are more hoopers out there than me that like unique names. I am currently pregnant and have started the name brainstorm and can't help be love some of the names other hoopers have chosen.

I am curious of the names of your children and if they are unique! Throw in a naming story, too!

My daughter's name is Zora Kiryn. Her name came to me at work one day and my co-worker validated that it was, indeed, a name (and it meant beauty of dawn) . She was born at dawn and the name was perfect. The middle name we conjured up phonetically and it was so pretty we figured we liked it despite it meaning "dark haired one" when she is strawberry blonde...

I am thinking I'll call the next one Willow, Oxana, or Harold IV (daddy's name) if its a boy.

What are your kid's names? What's the story  behind it? Do you know other hooping mom's with interesting named children?

Hi shannon,

Congratulations on your current pregnancy! How far along are you?

I think its very important to pick a name that feels right, i have kind've regretted feeling pressured to pick names others find acceptable and also rushed to register (i don't know what it's like everywhere else but in the uk you can be fined for not registering within the set time, 3mnths i think).

I really love the name zora, it sounds really strong but also cute and playful!I love names with 'yn' too! I bet she'll appreciate being so unique, i've never even heard both those names before.

I originally wanted to call my eldest Sunny, short for sunshine. I had it in my head that's what i wanted to call him throughout the whole pregnancy but my partner was never into it. After i'd had him i thought he might change his mind but he had his heart set on something biblical like Elijah or Ezra. A boy i went out with for a long time in my early teens had brothers called Ezra, Elijah and Isaac so i didn't want to copy. My partner suggested Ezriel which i thought was ok so we went with it. When we registered him i picked Bodhi (as in bodhisattva) as a middle name as it was another name i liked but knew would never be 'ok'd' as a first name. I really regret not calling him Sunny-he gets comments on having a strange name anyway and he has such bright blond hair, hes just like a little ball of sunshine! It would've been perfect.

My second son went without a name for 3months when we finaly settled on Gideon-again because it fit the parameters of being biblical and not too weird. I really like his name however throughout this pregnancy i had been set on Hope for a girl and Star for a boy. It's horrible how judgemental can be on what you want to name your kid. I've always made sure to be encouraging with other peoples name choices, i guess people just want to be honest with their opinions however something like a name is just personal choice and i never asked for opinion just told them what i was thinking of. He ended up with star as a middle name but it just feels like a cop out as i really wanted it for the first. He only gets called Giddle at the moment anyway:)

Good luck with choosing a name I'll see if i can find my list of other possible names!

I love hearing what people have named their kids!  My husband's name is Dax which is not very common, and he loves it.  He always says that once people "get" it, they never forget him so he wanted that for our kids too.  (side note:  His best friend is also named Dax.  They met in high school, went to college together, eventually both started working in the video game industry, and also separately made their own way into the Burner community.  Something to be said for a name, I guess!)  My daughter's name is Mazzy Eliza (inspired by Mazzy Star).  She wants to grow up and marry someone with the last name Star and have a son named Ringo.  lol.  My son's name is Jack Burton.  On the surface, that's pretty common, but it's actually the lead character in Big Trouble in Little China, which is my husband's favorite movie.  And then after we chose the name, I found out from my Grandmother that Burton is a family name, so we scored big with Grandma too!  :)
I loooooove the name Mazzy. I've never ever met a Dax. What an interesting name! I had some friends who named their son Corbin Dallas.... from 5th Element. Its one of my fav films so I was a bit jealous they thought of it first ;D Maybe there is a Lelu in my future.

My daughters name was unique when i had her..I never heard the name until i came up with it(not saying i made it up) ..but its pretty common now..Aryana Odessa Sue Kincaid and I named my little boy after his father William (billy) harvey Kincaid IV..Couldnt have chose better names for them..suits them..But ive always like the name Ember, Lilyana, willow, Sunshine..no too sure on boys names

My little girls name is Luna and I absolutely am happy I went with that name she is def a Luna. when I found the name it was like it chose her it was perfect! before the name Luna came to me I was going to name her Gia lol im happy Luna came to me and her father did not put up a fight with the name...it was truly meant for her 100%

When I was pregnant with my daughter a friend of mine had me watch "Repo! The Genetic Opera". I fell in love with the movie. The main character is named Shiloh. In the movie Shiloh is a young girl locked away by her father because of a blood disease that she got at birth when her mother got sick and died and only she could be saved.. blah blah.. it's just way too much to get into.. but anywho.. I loved that movie so much that I named my daughter Shyeloh. (thought this way of spelling was more feminine). and I named my son Spencer because for some unknown reason I have absolutely loved the name Spencer for as long as I can remember.

What a great name! I have that entire movie memorized.. it was the only one I had on my laptop in college so... well, yes. I love that movie too ^_^ *singing songs now*

Never thought of that name for my little one though.

So my new baby was a GIRL! And I named her Willow Veda.

Willow because of the willow trees that always take my breath away on the beautiful earth and because she looked like Grandmother Willow from Pocohantas when she came out, all wrinkly and wise. And Veda because I kept reading Yogic texts in my last stages of pregnancy and it means "knowledge" Also its from My Girl, and I love Vada Sultenfuss!

She is mon petit poisson, pisces with almost the same birthday as me. So I was translating a lot of qualities I have about myself to her. I know she can deal with and grow through the baggage I've bestowed. We all do.

I have Jacob Michael....hes 13 now and that was just a traditional normal name.then i have almost 2 yr old Mattreu "J"....who is named after several ppl....his dads best friends name was Matt and one of my all time favorite movies is the Neverending Story and Atreuy is the warrior boy who is out to save Fantasia.so i meshed thos names together...and "J" is after my older brother Jeff who used to chareokee under just his 1st initial.....almost EVERYONE gets his name wrong....ive heard it pronounced Mattree Mattroo even Matte'...but its pronounced like Muhtrayou.

My 5 year old's daughter's name is Taya Mishell, (sounds like Tae-yuh, most people initially say it weird)  and my two year old is Tessa Cadence. Taya's name must have come in a dream or something, I just woke up one day near the end of my pregnancy and said it; I knew it was going to be her name. We had been going back and forth on baby names for months. Although I had never heard it before, I did recently meet one adult Taya, pronounced the same too. Tessa's name just sounded pretty to us, it flowed well with Taya, and I call her 'Tessi'  most of the time. It reminds me of our Irish heritage. If we had a boy, he would have been Michael (after dad), middle name Lucky, but we would have called him Lucky.

I just knew I wouldn't choose an overly common name. I still remember the frustration in school having 6 'Ashley's' in one class. The poor girls had to then be identified by their physical appearance, oh 'big Ashley, little Ashley, skinny Ashley, blonde Ashley'. I didn't want to take that chance for my girls.

My baby girl's name is Artemis Eden Rose. I chose it because my family has a long standing tradition of names beginning with A and I was named for the northern lights and the goddess of the dawn (my name is Aurora Skye) so I decided to not only continue with names beginning with A but to also start a tradition of names for gods and goddesses. Plus, when I was reading the list of names I was deciding between, she kicked me really hard in the ribs when I read Artemis aloud. As for her two middle names, I actually wanted to stay away from Rose since everyone else I knew were giving Rose as a middle name to their daughter but when a friend brought it up and said the full name out loud, I could decide which sounded better so she wound up with the full name Artemis Eden Rose.
