Hey all! I feel there is a severe lack of NH based hooping. Yes there's Portland, yes there's Boston, but for us poor college kids with heavy course loads? Not a good option :p

So I want to make a UNH Hoop Club that would be open to the public :) would any New Hampshirites (or beyond!) be interested? It'll help me figure out when a better time to hold it would be (like, while I'm out of school at 2 on Fridays, the average community member probably has work till 5 :p) and where (in an easy accessible place vs within the bowels of UNH)

any advice/suggestions for a hooping club is also greatly appreciated :P

Namaste!

Ahhh... I went to UNH but didn't start hooping until the year after I graduated... and I think ALL THE TIME about how it would have been such a great community for hoopers!!! So jealous that you'll get to do this, and I think it's a great idea! UVM has a well established hoop group, it's actually an inter-mural sport... maybe you can get to that point some day. You may want to try contacting them for ideas/inspiration:

Keep us posted on the status! Maybe in the spring you can make a field trip down to our group in Boston on Tuesday afternoons :)
Oh man that is super helpful! thank you :3 the UVM school seems to have a similar situation to ours, helps me know what angle to approach the UNH people with X) And there will be status updates! and even if i can't get the group down, i'll hafta try to get down there anyway XD
Hi Skye~

I just wanted to say: GO GIRL!

I live an hour and a half North of Portland and have been trying very hard to spread the hooping word! It has definitely been a challenge but a BLAST!

In my limited experience, I would suggest maybe making the first event something special. Show off or explain why hooping is beneficial and FUN~I find that when people realize this is really THE next big thing, they get even more interested. If you've got photos or info on the various convergences/camps/retreats or classes available in this country it seems to help people connect. Then get them connected with the hoop itself. That is what REALLY motivates people to hoop.

I think it will be easier w/a college crowd because they are already open too new experiences that are a little bit out of the mainstream. From there...you've got yourself a club! Make sure people know that it's FREE. I love the idea of bringing UNH and the public together on something like this, too.

Those are just some thoughts off the top of my head. Before you know it, NH will be in the HOOP!
Thanks :D i'm digging the encouragement ^^
I'm also a jealous UNH alumni!!! It's changed so much since I was there. I graduated in 1996. Anyway, I would suggest bringing a pile of hoops to somewhere public, maybe the lawn in front of Thompson Hall (is that name right? I'm so rusty!!) or if you know of a drum circle, that would also be a great place to hoop at. Post flyers in the dining halls and MUB and go hoop it up!! Good luck!

Amanda
this is an awesome idea. *gathers supplies and starts on her pile of hoops* hehe. I've hooped at a circle before too, just didn't have the club yet XD if they host one again i'm sure that'll be a great place to find people!
If you ever wanna come hoop, I started up a UNH hoop group. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hooping-at-UNH/219571634765879 :D
Hmm. Would any be interested in fridays after 6? >.> I'm having trouble gathering interest from the regular campus goers..
dude i just started doing this like a couple weeks ago, i go to school in vt but when i'm home in may maybe we could get together! i live in newfields, not far!
I grew up in Newfields!  ;-)
Hmm well. as far as i can see 1 life continually kicks my butt, but during the summer i have sufficient free time that perhaps we could take over a field for some fun times? if not regularly, once? any interested?

Hey there :)

I just graduated from UNH, alumn now.. scary!  Working in North Hampton now.  Let me know when/where you would like to get together in the area, I'm definitely down as far as my availability allows!
