Hey everyone! My hoop just arrived on Thursday!!! I'm super excited, and have been practicing non stop!
My question is regarding hoop size- I think mine may be too big for me, even for a beginer. I am only 5'1, and 105 lbs (if that matters? I'm not really sure.....) and I have a "standard" 40 inch hoop. Its the Recessionista hoop from hoopnotica.com

Anyway, I really do think it may be too big, even though I know they are supposed to be larger when one first starts, but I'm having a really hard time even waist hooping for short periods of time. Normally, I would think I'm just a dweeb and need to practice more, but a girlfriend of mine came over the other day with her smaller hoop ( I have no idea what the dimensions of her hoop are), and I was having a much easier time. I was even able to chest hoop for a bit (WOOT!)
I dunno if this is normal, and I should switch to a smaller hoop, or if its better to stick with a larger hoop for now. Any tips or personal experiences or really anything would be awesome!!! Thanks hoopers!!

Permalink Reply by Toni Oertel on June 4, 2011 at 11:03pm I bought my first hoop as a weighted hoop 40 inches diameter, I was ready for a lighter less diameter hoop within a couple days, went with a 39 inch 120 psi, went through that in a couple weeks, then went to a 38 inch 100 psi, I'm 5'3 and 120 lbs. I'm now 6 months later at a 36 inch polypro. In my opinion depends on your comfort level and how fast your adapting to the hoop. In hindsight, I wish I would have gone from the 40inch weighted to a 38 100 psi. Each person is different though. I've bought all my hoops excluding my fire hoop from HoopMamas. At most I've paid is $30 for a hoop http://www.etsy.com/shop/HoopMamas
depends on where you are in the world though. These hoops are made in the U.S. in Kansas. I justed moved from there and moved to arizona, so I knew a few people from that group and felt comfortable with them, I don't know where you live, but I'm just saying If I was buying my first hoop that wasn't 40inch, i would look at my progression, if you're one that learns really fast, maybe go for the 38inch, 100 psi. I don't regret going through the other sizes though because I've had friends want to learn and I've given them my old hoops, so I don't feel like I wasted any money in the fact that I was able to provide their first ever hoops to them. :)
Hoop love,
Toni
