i think rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol) would take off the sticky stuff too. very inexpensive and easy to find, usually at a drug store. i've used it to take off the lables from glass jars and various other sticky stuff.

Goo Gone works wonders on anything sticky and is safe on almost any surface.
