OK, I must admit that when I started this group I had this vision about getting as many of us together as possible and have a massive Southeast Hoop Gathering! What are your thoughts? Anyone down for trying to lay down some new connections, reunite with old friends, share some knowledge, and (best of all) shine some hoopjoy together?

I'm open to ideas, so let me know your thoughts. My hope is we can all come together to make it happen, if there's enough interest. We'll just let it evolve naturally as thoughts and ideas come out of the woodwork.

Come visit me - near the Smoky Mountains - A nice central location?
Thanks Kelly, I'd love to! It may take a few weeks to get up there, but I'm game as soon as my schedule will allow. Message me and we can work out the small stuff.

A central location would probably allow for more of us to make it with less fuss; no one would have to travel too far. Maybe Alabama or Tennessee?
Memphis??
the Hooper Troopers are based here--there are four of us, plus a couple of other hoopers. we would love to host a gathering :) i know we are definitely going to try and organize something for world hoop day here as well.
Great suggestion!
I'm down for whatever :-) I think a central location is a great idea though. As long as I'm able to drive to it then I'll go if schedule & monies allow it.
Ok ya'll! I'm so pleased we've got some responses, now we need to spread the word.

The Hooper Troopers in Memphis have generously offered to host this gathering in Memphis. Thank you Megan!

Does anyone else have any other ideas on locations central to the Southeast region? If there are other ideas, let's get them out here so we can vote on them as a group.

Also we should think about when we would like to hold this gathering. I was thinking of waiting until next spring, but maybe ya'll have some other suggestions? I'd like to be sure that all of us who want to attend have time to prepare and arrange schedules.

Any other thoughts, ideas, suggestions?
if the gathering is going to be in memphis, i think it should be at overton park with the drummers. we have an amazing drum circle who have been gathering for over 20 years every week. i try to hold spin jams with them as often as possible. also, the number of hoopers in memphis is growing and i think holding this gathering in spring is a great idea as it'll give memphis, selfishly hehe, the opportunity to grow even more.

but i'm just going to throw this out there, i personally love to travel, so if this ends up being somewhere other than memphis, say nashville (love!) cough cough, or atlanta, i'm still totally in.

and if this ends up being in memphis, then i'd like to offer whoever needs a place to crash a bed/couch/floor in my little house :).
I've got a resounding yes from me on Overton Park; I've never been ,but I've heard about it for years. I've got a friend who plays there sometimes. Even if the gathering doesn't end up in Memphis, I'd love to spin with you there sometime! I'm from Tupelo, MS (living in Atlanta now) so I'm back that way from time to time.

Travel is cool with me too. I'm really looking forward to meeting all of you beautiful hooper souls wherever we end up.

You rock! =)
Has anyone given thought to the time frame? Should we have it over a weekend, sort of a 2-3 day affair? Also, what time of year is good? Should we plan ahead for maybe next spring, so there's time to organize and prepare to do this thing right?
I would love to be a part of this in the fall or spring. I think my excitement wants it to be in the fall but you are right about having more time to plan. Have you ever been to Cherokee Farm in Northwest Georgia? It is really a beautiful place with lots of land, lakes and rivers. Camping is wonderful there! March would be a nice time to jump out of the cold and into the hoop!
wonderful suggestions. I'll be attending Alchemy for the first time this year, so I'll get my first look at Cherokee Farm pretty soon. I'll ask around and see what it would take to secure the location, if ya'll are interested traveling to Georgia.

Let's get some feedback ladies and gents. Who wants to holler out hoop love for the South?
Where ever is fine with me but I do ask to please not have it in the summer. :-) The humidity (and pollen but that's a whole other problem for me) makes it rather difficult to breathe and I like breathing, lol.

A weekend/long weekend is actually a really great idea. I don't mind camping in a tent or on someone's floor.

Swizzy Ape

a way out of the hoop

I'm stuck in a loop with the hula hoop. When I was a little girl I was abused in every which way. Often I was grounded to my bedroom, with two bathroom visits and a dinner release. In my bedroom held my boom box. Loud music would draw my angry step father towards my room. But I had to dance, so from a young age I would take a few preventable beatings so I could dance in my bedroom. Pretending I'm dancing on stage with Brain Setzer, I had trained myself to ingore reality while I dance. Even…

I haven't posted for a very long time, but I have something worth sharing.  In the last couple of years, I have advanced enough to start teaching and I absolutley love my classes.  All my students are wonderful its the most favorite part of my week. Through a very unfortunate series of events, every hoop I own, including my hoops for students, were taken and no longer in my possession. I was so upset ,not for myself, but my students would have nothing to take class with. There…
