OK, I must admit that when I started this group I had this vision about getting as many of us together as possible and have a massive Southeast Hoop Gathering! What are your thoughts? Anyone down for trying to lay down some new connections, reunite with old friends, share some knowledge, and (best of all) shine some hoopjoy together?

I'm open to ideas, so let me know your thoughts. My hope is we can all come together to make it happen, if there's enough interest. We'll just let it evolve naturally as thoughts and ideas come out of the woodwork.

You can email me at Jaysontour@gmail.com I will keep everyone on file that is interested in attending, Once i look around at festival dates so that nothing is conflicting so we can optimize attendance, I hope to set a date soon... If any one has a preference on what month just let me know...
sweet, sending an email. I'd love to get down with a gathering if I am able.
I can get there on the weekend anytime. Could do a full week April 4-10 or mid June-Aug.
Gulf sounds great!
What's the name of the state park - Gulf SHore State Park?
Thank You all for the response so quickly, I have emailed Baxter and sent word I want to host The Hoop path here on the coast, How does renting a couple beach house's sound and do community housing with morning and pm workshop's? No driving involved, Hosting the workshop's on the beach and around the House's.... Also we would include that cost in with everything making it easier for all, So does it sound like it is a start to getting a great thing going.. Night time burn's on the beach? Are we all on the same page? You all know what you want to accomplish, Develop a community, create something really special and develop your skill's and share what you already have learned with other Hooper's. Any instructor that would like to do a specialized workshop feel free to contact me with your Idea's...
Sounds great, Jay! I'm interested in attending; just need to know when, where and how much.
I like the community housing, but think a camping option would be important, too. Is this location near any beach camping?
Unfortunately they do not allow camping on our Beaches. But I will check into a few campground's..
Great idea Jay! I'd definitely be interested and I'm sending you an email. I definitely think after the Hoop Path retreat (which is in June) would be a good idea for this get together. I'm going to Convergence so I want to save up money so I can get together with all of you here!
sounds cool, what beach, where?
I'm up for Memphis. kewl!
I just want to shout out to everybody that I'll be teaching a Hoop Path workshop in Memphis on February 20th and 21st (dates just got changed cuz of the snow!) and welcome everyone from anywhere throughout the Dirty South to join in and make it a mini-retreat! If you need help with housing, I am collaborating with the Hooper Troopers and Hoop-elo for this event, I bet we can find some couches and such. Baxter & I have learned that these weekends can be even MORE fun when we put some planning behind 'em and get a bunch of hoopers together and have jams, meals, etc. I mean, how can you go wrong with that kind of plan?

I also love the Gulf Coast idea. Baxter has been saying (boasting) for years that he wants to make the Southeast into the Land of Badass Hoopers (we will take that title from California, thank you very much) and lord knows he can do it.

As far as dates, I know Bax won't be traveling at all in May (gearing up for the aforementioned Hoop Path Retreat) or June (recovering from the Retreat). Another thing to consider is that we really don't do outdoor workshops because of the unpredictability of weather. It's one thing if you are in San Diego (300 days of sun a year--but even then, we hold our workshops there indoors) but it's quite another here in the Southeast, where rain is always possible. We just can't justify taking a chance with all the planning that needs to go into making a workshop happen. Plus the atmosphere in our workshops is very particularly inward and meditative, making the risks of unpredictable phenomena (noise, people watching/gawking) considerable. So just FYI (for y'all's information)

Feel free to holler at me with questions. I have planned all of the HP Retreats and workshops and have a good bit of hoop-event-planning experience. I would love to take part in a Southeast Hooper Gathering!

Swizzy Ape

a way out of the hoop

I'm stuck in a loop with the hula hoop. When I was a little girl I was abused in every which way. Often I was grounded to my bedroom, with two bathroom visits and a dinner release. In my bedroom held my boom box. Loud music would draw my angry step father towards my room. But I had to dance, so from a young age I would take a few preventable beatings so I could dance in my bedroom. Pretending I'm dancing on stage with Brain Setzer, I had trained myself to ingore reality while I dance. Even…

I haven't posted for a very long time, but I have something worth sharing.  In the last couple of years, I have advanced enough to start teaching and I absolutley love my classes.  All my students are wonderful its the most favorite part of my week. Through a very unfortunate series of events, every hoop I own, including my hoops for students, were taken and no longer in my possession. I was so upset ,not for myself, but my students would have nothing to take class with. There…
