Permalink Reply by Dizzy Hula Girl on September 25, 2011 at 9:12pm I can't thank you guys enough for being so welcoming and supportive! Just asked to join the group so I will be trying to keep up and see if anyone is free to go hang out at the park one day or something. There are a few big parks around the area depending on where we would be closer to. Hope to meet everyone very soon!

Permalink Reply by Adriene on September 26, 2011 at 12:03pm Hey Nikki!!
I rarely get on this site anymore, but I still get updates for this group! I'm Adriene :) Welcome to Memphis! You have made it to a city that is on the cusp of a lot of growth, and the flow arts are in the mix! I'm in a local group called the Hooper Troopers, and we promote hooping through various outlets in the city. We are organizing a group to hoop-walk a 5k race in November, which benefits the Church Health Center in town. If you're up for that, you are welcome to join :)
In the meantime, go play at the park! I hate it that I can never make it there, but other commitments or a day of rest always get in the way. If you're interested in learning hoop dance in a class, just holler! We have a few rotating classes a week :) There should be some indoor play dates popping up soon too.

Permalink Reply by HoopStatic ~ Chloe on September 29, 2011 at 9:46pm Welcome to Memphis Nikki and so glad you found our group on FB :) That's probably the best way to stay in touch with events and meetups. Memphis is a very hoop/flow friendly so you'll find there's a lot going on and much of it is free. The shows at the Levitt Shell are very hoop friendly and you'll see hoopers at lots of clubs and music events frequently as well. I go to the drum circle most Sundays and will probably be there this Sunday so come say hi and introduce yourself. My name's Chloe. The drum circle is very open to anyone and everything and definitely dog friendly. I met someone else there new to Memphis last Sunday as well.
Also several of us meet up at the Memphis Botanic Garden for an open "hoopy hour" after work on some weeknights whenever their space is available. It's very informal and irregular but one of the Spin City group members works there and can sometimes get the space for us to meet up. The next one is next Thursday 10/6@ 5:30-7:30. It's free and anyone is welcome. Look for Charity Novick's post on the group page and she can give you more details on where to go when you get there. And here's the garden website for general location info http://www.memphisbotanicgarden.com/
