hey!!!  i started teaching about 5 months ago, and i love it!!!  i started teaching just hoopdance, but now my class is a fusion of hoopdance with cardio spurts in between.  i do a warm up, and just waste hoop for about 5 minutes, and start walking around with the hoop.  then i do about 3-4 songs of cardio or strength routines ive come up with.  for most of them, i keep the hoop on the floor and move in and out and around it.  ive done a lot of step classes in the past, and kind of refer to that for inspiration for moves.  then after a couple cardio routines, i go back to the hoop for a recovery and to catch their breath.  its been working out pretty well for me, and its good for people who arent 100% comfortable with hooping.  i hope this helps!!!

Hi erica,

I've been playing around with some "fitness" hooping. A really fun exercise I just came across is waist hooping, while doing a grape-vine. I like to break and reverse on the end of the 3 step grape-vine, and repeat going the other direction. I also progress to a turning grape-vine if  students are ready to take things up a notch. From this move, I also stumbbled into a very good "sweat inducing" exercise. This is waist hooping while doing a transfer of weight from one foot to the other foot. I then progress to "pointing" the foot that is not weight bearing, while continuing the transfer of weight from one foot to the other (with opposite leg and foot extended and pointed) With a final progression of lifting the leg off the floor a little bit, and maintain the hooping for a couple of turns. Then transfering the weight to the other side and repeat the leg lift.
