Hey!
I have to organize a 7 hour Hoopcourse (split in 2 days) at a sport and dance academy. I will have ca. 10 people which have never before hoopdancing.
So i´m thinking actually about the lessons structure and need some input for ideas, games, excercises etc.
It´s really hard to make a concept for this course, normally i´m giving courses for advanced Hoopers or total beginners, but then for an hour, and not a whole weekend.
Heeeelp! :)

I believe with your skills in advance and beginner hoop class courses you will be able to figure something out that will be fun and entertaining.
A nice way to start the course is by having a small circle time to say their name where they are from and why they are there.... At that point you can explain what you are teaching and what they are in for....kinda makes it a warm and cozy thing.... After that I would probably structure it with basics : hooping on the waist (basic forward stance and side to side, and then get them moving with walking and turns.... A fun way to get them moving once they have the concept is to do the electric slide or the macarena to get there arms moving as the same time as the hoop... Blind hooping is fun so they can get space awareness and feel the hoop instead of looking at where it goes... You can have a small section where you teach them hoop fitness where they are doing squats, lunges, jump rope jumping jacks and so forth(this is for the people who are not into dance but want to get fit) also adding bits of yoga in there like the tree pose or warrior while doing halo.... You can have a balance section with hooping under the legs and standing on one foot....Or a floor section whre they learn that it does not have to be pne certain way of standing....Halos and passing is alot of fun and people get a kick out of that and move into stalls....
One cool game I read about is "death hoop" i believe it is called...people hoop on their waist but walk around to try to bump other people's hoops down.... Or the revolving door pass : where people get into a line and do the revolving door and then pass to the next person in one fluid motion...
All in all you can section it with circle time, warm up, technique, fitness, game time, play time (where they do there own thing), cool down and shivasana (relaxation time)
I hope you have the best time at your course and have fun while doing it ... :0)
All Love
