Hi all!

I just bought my first bag of quinoa but the recipe is for the full bag and I'm only one person.  Does anyone know the correct water/quinoa ratio for a pot?  I would like to cook a cup of quinoa, how much water should I use?

Any favorite recipes with quinoa would be greatly appreciated, as well!

Thanks!

I just cook my quinoa like I cook rice. 2 cups water to 1 cup quinoa. Here is the trick though, there is a tough outer shell that needs to be broken for good cooking so what I do is rinse my quinoa in cool water until the water runs clear THEN cook it in boiling water. I have a small meshed sieve to accomplish this.

I also really like to add spices to the water like turmeric or curry powder, it gives a nice color and a bit of flavor.

good luck!
I agree completely with Joanna. Although sometimes bits of it get caught in my strainer. A cheesecloth would probably work better for rinsing, if you have one handy (I don't). And sometimes I use vegetable broth instead of water. I'm stealing the idea of adding spices to the water, sounds great! :)

Hope you enjoy it!
I was wondering if I could use veggie broth instead! It's not too overpowering to substitute all water with broth? I have a bunch of organic broth I'd love to use. Thanks!

(and the spices sound good!)
It's not too overpowering to replace all of the water with broth...I just don't add any seasoning once it's ready. I usually add stuff to my quinoa anyway, it's rarely used it as a stand alone dish.
I use the veggie broth too. Adds a little something ;)
Thank you so much! I can't wait to try it out this weekend! =) My boyfriend makes excellent quinoa but always has to look up the ratio, so I figured I'd ask here. =)
Hi, I'm new to this group, and I LOVE quinoa.

I just wanted to mention that after rinsing, I usually toast my quinoa in the pan before adding the broth (or water). Put it right in the pot over medium high heat and stir until it gets toasted, then add the broth (2 to 1 ratio) and cook until all the water is absorbed. It adds a nice depth of flavor.
I have never tried that before. The next time I make quinoa I am def. going to try this! :)
Hey Quinoa Lovers! I'm new to this group -
I make breakfast quinoa with apple and cinnamon! It's soooo yummy!
This is enough for 2 people and its soooo hearty it stays with you til mid afternoon!

rinse quinoa in strainer then heat in pan.

1 cup quinoa
1apple diced small
raw almonds chopped
sunflower seeds
2 shakes of mixed spice or cinnamon
half cup water
1cup oat milk
teasp honey when its cooked

(candida friendly without the honey!)
I use about a handful of nuts & seeds
The liquid will be absorbed when its ready - if you like mushy quinoa, you can ad more H2o or oat milk.
When you get really excited you can add a mix of red and white quinoa!
If you are really excited you can eat it with yoghurt!
YUMMER!
