Vegetarian

- How long have you been veg*n?
Since March of 2009. It is almost my veggieversary. :)

- Do you live with any companion animals (ie. pets)?
I have three male cats named Maverick, Simba, and Osiris. They are my furbabies and I love them to pieces.

- Do you live with any companion humans?
Yes. I live with my long term boyfriend, who also went vegetarian about six months after I did. Honestly... I was so surprised when he announced his decision. He was a very meat and potatoes kind of guy. I think my cooking had a lot to do with it. :)

- What is your favorite restaurant?
Cafe Manna in Brookfield, WI. It is one of the onyl veg*n restaurant in our state, completely organic, and the only certified green restaurant in the state. Their food is incredible!

- What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?
I love that it is better for the animals, the environment, and my health. I no longer have to feel guily about what I am eating, at least from a compassion standpoint. :)

- With whom would you most love to have dinner?
Honestly, my friends. I love how we cook for each other all of the time. They are my favorite dinner companions.

- What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off?
I make a really bad ass alfredo sauce. I also make really awesome pasta salad.

- What's your biggest cooking/baking disaster?
I can't remeber any really recent ones. When I was kid I was helping my dad cook dinner, we forgot we were cooking, and left to run errands. We came home to firetrucks surrounding our house. There was a lot of smoke damage, but nothing actually set ablaze thanks to a mindful neighbor who noticed the smoke.

- Tell us a random fact about yourself.
I absolutely hate being alone and I avoid it at all costs.

~I am a woman who will be 28 very soon. I live in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
~Vegetarian
~ I've been veggie for 9ish years.
~ My daughter, Chloe and I(who is also veggie), have two cats and a bunny. Kira and Kling and the bunny is Kuddle Umpkins.
~My favorite restraunt is the cafe at the Riverwest co-op. They only serve vegan and vegetarian food, and it's run entirely by volunteers.
~I enjoy cooking awesome vegetarian food for people, veggie or omni alike, the most.
~I like to have dinner with my family of friends and my little one. We do potlucks fairly regularly, and it is one of the highlights of my existance.
~My butternut squash chili is pretty bad assed.
~Oh, that'd be my daughter's birthday cake last september. I didn't realize my oven was broken, and it took me four completely effed up cakes to finally get it right. Stupid broken ovens.
~I like to make life colorful.

Hello! I'm a hooper from St. Petersburg Florida, 33yrs old.
I am a vegetarian of 11 years but haven't been able to give up
ice cream and cheese just yet.
I am do my best to live a sustainable and cruelty free life.
Also, I'm a firm advocate of animal rights. I have an 8 year
old lab-chow dog and also my daughter has a guinea pig named Diamond.
I have two kids 13 and 11 who are not vegetarians but don't put have
become very open and accepting of my vegetarian cooking experiments as
long as I don't name it "Tofu Surprise".

- Do you live with any companion animals (ie. pets)? YES! Little Jude, my furbaby (He's a Shih Tzu).

- What is your favorite restaurant? Currently, Ruby Tuesday and a local place here in H-town, Hobbit Cafe.

- What do you enjoy most about being veg*n? Not worrying about all those meat recalls!! :P

- What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off? I make a mean Boca Enchilada

- How long have you been veg*n? Vegan for about 3 years.

- Do you live with any companion animals (ie. pets)? Two dogs, a pug-jack russell cross, and a dachshund cross, two doves.

- Do you live with any companion humans? Right now sharing a house with my dad and his girlfriend (it's a duplex) soon to move in with b/f.

- What is your favorite restaurant? I love thai food- Lemongrass is awesome, Affinity is a good vegetarian restaurant too.

- What do you enjoy most about being veg*n? There's a million things I love. The fact that I am not promoting cruelty to animals is the main one. I like bringing light on issues-like factory farms, Canadian sealing, puppy mills, and animal neglect. However, I digest better and never have that gross bloated feeling after eating.

- With whom would you most love to have dinner? Paul Watson?

- What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off? Apple Crisp

- What's your biggest cooking/baking disaster? Geez-recently I tried to make a tofu cookies and cream dessert. ewww..

Hi, Kristen here, 25 (26 on March 27!!) and I'm a female in Murfreesboro, TN, just south of Nashville :)
--I call myself an aqua-pescatarian...it sounds so much cooler than semi-veg. I have been eating more vegetarian like here lately though.
--been APVeg for about 3 years, pretty much since Lance & I started dating. Neither one of us really likes eating red meat.
--We have one kitty baby, Chloe
--I live with my boyfriend of 3 years, Lance
--I don't really have a fav restaurant at the moment but I want to check out the Wild Cow veg*n restaurant in Nashville!
--The fact that I can totally surprise everyone with my cupcakes being completely vegan!! No one ever realizes until I tell them (Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World cookbook, check it out!)
--I love having dinner with my boyfriend and our friends...late night cook outs with some beer, maybe I do some hooping cause we have some sweet tunes going...
--Well, the aforementioned cupcakes! and this pasta entree I made the other night (started making it a year or so ago): whole wheat shell pasta, frozen mixed veggies, frozen edamame & veggie Italian style sausage mixed with a few squirts of Italian dressing. Yum! I actually just ate some of the leftovers for dinner. Lance calls it "rabbit food" but he likes it :)
--Biggest disaster that I still sh** for is brownies. I was 13!!! I didn't understand the importance of adjusting the baking time if I used a bigger dish which made the brownies thin...and hard.
--I'm a huge fan of horror movies and Tim Burton. I'd love to be some twisted hooper character in a Tim Burton flick!

Japan-style vegetarian (where fish is a vegetable, apparently)

- How long have you been veg*n?

This time, about 3 years. I slip in and out of phase depending on my health and living situation.

- Do you live with any companion animals (ie. pets)?

No.

- Do you live with any companion humans?

Yes. One husband.

- What is your favorite restaurant?

Tokyo is a culinary wonderland; I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite.

- What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?

No smelly garbage. No, really, I love the way I feel on a vegetable rich diet.

- With whom would you most love to have dinner?

Myself 20 years ago. I have a few things to tell her.

- What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off?

Flourless chocolate cake with ganache.

- What's your biggest cooking/baking disaster?

I sometimes experiment. You'd have to ask my companion human which one was worst.

-female/25/Rochester NY

-ovo lacto vegetarian. have been limiting my dairy comsumption when possible, and buying organic dairy when i can afford to (pricier, but it's not full of human growth hormone and it comes from happier cows)

-going on 11 years. ate fish for the first year, but after some reflection, felt that was unfair to fish that were dying. not judging anyone who eats fish. i'm a big picture person, limiting your consumption of any meat/dairy at all, you're still part of the solution!

-jiffy, is my litttle shih tzu. black white and gray. he's four now. my puppy friend was the best unwise decision i ever made (got puppy in time of financial/emotional hardship) but a puppy friend was just what i needed and every day he makes me so happy.
-shpongle is my black kitty. flashlight is gray and white. shpongle and flashlight are brothers. jiffy and shpongle are friends now and it's soooooo cute. flashlight is more of a people cat, total attention whore. he doesn't like to play puppy games with jiffy
-turtur (red eared slider) he was a little, tiny, illegal baby turtle i got in chinatown when i lived in new york. brought him home in a paper cup from the bubble tea place across the street. didn't do research on their care until after the fact. didn't give him everything he needed at first, and now i feel bad looking back. now he has a really awesome habitat, getting huge and very happy. loves when you put your face near his tank. so much personality for a turtle!

- What is your favorite restaurant?
lento! we've been trying to save money and eat less decadently, but this restaraunt is just awesome! it's the only 'fine dining' in rochester that caters to vegetarians. typically fancy restarunts are extremely meat heavy, and even the things that seem like they wouldn't have to have meat do (for flavor) but lento not only has great, ever changing veggie options, all their ingredients are local too! (hence the changing menu)

- What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?
my cholesterol won't be a problem ever. the thought of chewing animal flesh is really disgusting to me now. the cruelty and nastiness of the meat industry is something i'm ever happy to not support, but most people don't want to hear about it. ignorance is bliss. i'm not talking about just slaughterhouse grossness, the environmental impact of raising cattle is pretty horrendous. nothing like levelling forrests to make grazing fields that are over filled and their feces poison groundwater

- With whom would you most love to have dinner? justin... so nice to be in a relationship with someone who has the same eating habits! i was really tired of eating salads and bread everytime i went out to eat with meat eating, former beaus

- What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off? justin does the cooking (i suck, but getting better) i can make some awesome cookies tho!

- What's your biggest cooking/baking disaster? i tried to make a brocolli rice cheese casserole thing for this guy i dated in new york. he was a foodie. totally baffled that i could deny myself the "wealth of flavor" meat provided. we didn't see eye to eye on anything looking back on it. the casserole, TERRIBLE!

people from my past mostly don't know i'm a hooper (formerly my life revolved around musical theatre), people from the present (rochester knows me from whirly wednesday and hooping around town) are shocked to hear me sing

Not that I know of.

Hubby.

- What is your favorite restaurant?
Govinda's in LA.

- What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?
It's wise in so many ways: physically, mentally, ecologically, karmically, economically... What I enjoy most is that well, it's just a natural step in the lifestyle I've chosen, yoga-lifestyle. And being vegetarian is the very first step of yama, the first step of yoga. So if you know anyone who says they are yogis, but eat animals, that's not really yoga. Then it's just Indian gymnastics. :P

- With whom would you most love to have dinner?
You! Whoever you are. All of you. The more the merrier.

- What dish/recipe can you make that knocks people's socks off?
Just cooked brown rice and steamed broccoli, cellery, carrots and cabbage today - aahhhh I love it :D And everybody seems to love my rice/mung bean/veggies/spices/all in one pot -combination. I cook a lot, whenever I have a kitchen, and people seem to like it.

- What's your biggest cooking/baking disaster?
I made ice cream from scratch with kiwi. They don't go well together, I found out. Kiwi reacts with milk products in a super duper sour way.

I'm celibate and love it :D

Recently started, lost track, definitely a few months, and plan to for the rest of my life.

I'm in college, so I can't have pets, except fish. I have a dog and cat back home :) Love them to death!

- Do you live with any companion humans?
A crazy roomate.

- What is your favorite restaurant?
I enjoy mexican restuarants because they usually have a vegetarian section.

- What do you enjoy most about being veg*n?
I am happy that I no longer feel guilt for eating animals anymore.

- With whom would you most love to have dinner?
My boyfriend ;)

I wish I could! I haven't made my own food since Christmas break :(

I've used wrong ingredients without noticing it until I ate it :/
