I recently went to a raw food workshop and learned some new things.  I really love the idea of eating raw foods.  Is anyone else on here a raw foodist?  So far this week I've made my own fresh almond milk, and I made chia water tonight (apparently chia is the latest amazing thing to ingest).  The workshop opened my eyes to awesome recipes and foods, like:  cashew cheese, deserts, mango lassies, nori rolls (ucky-I wasn't down with the rolls), sunflower pate, etc... all VEGAN!  I just love being vegan, and was so happy to be in a room surrounded by others.

You can make cashew cheese? =O

I really like the idea of raw food, too. I'll be giving it a try this fall when I move into my own place. It has THE tiniest kitchen I've ever seen, so I can't really do a whole bunch of cooking. No stove, either. Raw food would be perfect! *saves money for a Vita-Mix*
I love the idea of raw food too, but I am hypoglycemic and getting adequate protien would be my issue. I know there are nuts, but I can't eat the same stuff all the time, I get tired of it. It also seems the base of just about every dessert is dates, which is ok for now, but so far every raw dessert or "treat" I have had has tasted about the same. Maybe I need to find better stuff though. I just try to do the important things organic for now until I make enough money to afford the healthier foods all the time. Now that it's summer, fruits and veggies are so cheap and yummy! I love this time of year.
You could always add in some raw foods to your diet, instead of going completely or majority raw, if you're having trouble with protein. I don't think you'd have protein issues with a veg*n diet. You get protein from basically everything you eat.
I'm hypoglycemic as well-and find it's a combination of what I eat, and how often I eat (people are always shocked at work that I eat constantly all day long). I also eat salad every single day for lunch-and people think I'm nuts. Some raw deserts I have had are:

brownies
macaroons
fig bars
butterscotch balls
halvah
biscotti
power balls

Other raw items I have eaten other than deserts are: kale chips, sunflower pate and nori rolls, chewy flax crackers, and cashew cheese and different drinks. But the place in the city does all sorts of classes-like cooking italian raw food, sprouting and dehydrating, party foods... I want to learn how to use my dehydrator more-currently I mostly dry granny smith apples every week.
Thought I would add that I have made a shake that involves powdered spirulina. It is full of protein and vit. b's (not b12, but many others are listed). You can use this in awesome blended shakes, or take capsules too. Soy milk is also a good source of protein.
I do like soy milk, and I just discovered I like rice milk too. Now I want to try almond milk. Silk just put out an almond milk I really want to try. The only thing is finding stuff thats gmo free too. I wish it was all cheaper all the time. This time of year with farmers markets it's awesome, but once November rolls around good cheap local produce is hard to come by.

I have been eating more raw lately, too.

I am watermelon whore :D

Mango too :)
Silk Almond Milk is the jam--I like it way better than soy milk (I like the plain kind best, but vanilla is okay, too--I got it by accident last time & I usually hate flavored stuff, but it's decent).
I was raw for two months and felt the best that I've ever felt. No more stomach aches or nasty bloated feeling after eating. I was naturally waking up earlier. I didn't need caffeine anymore and my energy was good. I dropped a lot of weight quickly, without trying, and without feeling hungry.
Then my grandfather went into hospice and passed away. Then I reverted to my old ways of eating. I am now trying to transition back to the raw diet that made me feel so vibrant.
For anyone thinking of incorporating more fresh live foods into your diet, this is the season to go for it! Farmers' Markets are full of awesome produce right now.
I just started a raw vegan diet TODAY I've been thinking about it for a long time i def need to buy a dehydrater and Vitamix but for now I'm going to do nut butter fruit smoothies, salads and wraps . i was vegetarian for 12 years but that was a lifetime ago. I'm tired of being tired and achey. I may do cooked food in winter, who knows. I read RAW FOOD REAL WORLD 100 recipes to get the glow by matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis last night. It had some great recipes I may have to buy a few inspiring cookbooks but for now its farmers market and homegrown sprouts the food coop and the local grocery store. I'm hoping that the "detox" isn't going to be too rough. I found a nice prepackaged nut butter smoothie at the local market it was delicious - it was flash pasteurized but wasn't quite prepared this morning. tty'all later
