Hey everyone! I'm looking for more hoopers in the Northern Virginia area to hoop with. So much of what's on Meetup is for hoop classes and I'm looking more for hoop and spin jams, since I'm already teaching.
I live in Reston and spend a lot of time in Herndon. There always seems to be events going on in DC/Alexandria/Arlington but it can be hard to get there so I would love to have something more central to Fairfax County, or even western Fairfax County (and Loudoun County). Are there enough of us (even just a couple would be awesome!) to start some get togethers?
Hope to meet some other hoopers!

Permalink Reply by Tilly Whirls on September 1, 2011 at 11:33am Bex! Come hoop with me tomorrow at JamBrew in Herndon. :D It goes Sept. 2, 9 and 16 in Herndon. There will be live music that's good for rockin out to in our hoops!!!
Permalink Reply by Tilly Whirls on August 23, 2011 at 11:04pm I'm so sorry I abandoned this thread! Eak! I got super busy in June and July and I've spent a lot of August trying to relax and prepare for classes (I teach my first hoop class on Thursday!). And Thursdays are no longer open for me starting in mid-September because that's when I'll be teaching regular evening classes. Anyway, I'm still available on Sundays quite often. Maybe Saturdays, but I end up working a lot on Saturdays—trying to avoid it!
I also wanted to let everyone know, there's going to be some Friday night concerts in Herndon the first three Fridays of September that are not a part of Friday Night Live. They are not cover bands, they're original, local bands and I've checked out some of their music and it seems super hoopable. I don't think a ton of people will be at these events because they're brand new this year and not widely known yet so there will probably be some decent lawn space for some hoopers to come and play to some live music. Some of you probably know at least a band or two. Come join me! Info here:

Oooh, another note: My hoop classes are going to be at the Herndon Community Center and once I get a little hoop following started there I'm hoping to convince them to allow us to do hoop jams in their gym. Sort of have a once a week time where we can all come in and hoop inside for an hour and everyone can pay like $5 or $7 or something. Anyway, it might be a viable option for inside hooping space/jams once it gets cold outside.

Permalink Reply by janet on April 9, 2012 at 1:06pm This is Janet from The Hula Hoop Project, check my meetup (same name) hooping during the week and formal activities at Alexandria area. Check also Leslie Perales, and Hoop Dance DC,
I'm not entirely interested in any sort of class... just casual gatherings revolved around hooping... I'm always looking for new friends how can challenge or inspire my dance.
Permalink Reply by Tilly Whirls on April 9, 2012 at 3:02pm Hey! I host jams in the Herndon area pretty much once a week. There's one in Fairfax too on Monday nights (Aerial Graffiti on Meeup) at GMU. Mine are on Sunday afternoons, or Saturdays if Sunday is a holiday (though there will be at least two weeks I'm out of town). I'm going to see if I'm able to do more in the summer, maybe on a weeknight or even a Friday afternoon or something.
