Although I am not a extremely avid yoga attendee, I enjoy it very much. so I recently began to do 'namaste' yoga which really just a FitTV channel show, but it allows me to practice for no cost in the my home which is a great start!
On the other hand I have been an avid hooper for almost five years.  One day after many bruises and failed attempts i realized the importance that balance, strong steady center, concentration as well as proper breathing would really enhance my hooping.  I began to do gentle yoga through my colleges rec department and certain moves and tricks were dramatically improved after just one session of yoga.

NOW I always do yoga before practice and performance.  I find it gives me a BIG advantage in sticking tricks and flowing through my dance.

Some yoga moves I incorporate are tree pose, king dancer pose, version of cow pose with one leg up (hoop on foot) out of a back sumersalt from reclined big toe pose.  So the sequence starts of my back then hoop on one foot for reclined big toe > shoulder stand. back somer sault > variation of cow pose. It took me about 3 1/2 years to accomplish this sequence and I can only do it with my right foot controlling the hoop.

Anyone got any yoga goop tricks?  Or ideas to try?!

!! awesome. i've been following the yogic path for about 4 years, more solidly the past half year since i got my teaching certification. I've been wanting to incorporate more ground and foot work. i've been practicing warrior III, hooping on the standing leg, hands in front or in prayer.. as well as trying to hoop on my extended foot in this pose - eventually to toss the hoop up with that foot and catch it with my hands to hoop again. I also love just experimenting and trying to find ways of hooping in as many poses as possible. warrior 1 and 2, triangle for slow expressions, etc. i think the my ultimate goal is to be able to do Bird of Paradise pose hooping on the lifted leg - http://thesoniashow.files.wordpress.com/2008/10/shanna-bird-of-para... - and also to be able to do a backbend hooping, switch off to the foot, and be able to flip over, maybe even into a scorpion, all the way over into a 3-legged dog/standing split... all in due time. the greatest thing i learned from yoga is that you can do anything. There is no more what you can't do... but what you can't do YET.
Thanks you encouraged me to keep on going. Your ideas sound great! I love the standing split, and one day if possible to a headstand...like you said NETHING IS POSSIBLE!

ththese are totally the same goals I have been working on!

Can you post a vid of the sequence, Alison? I can visualize some of it from test, but I'd love to really see what you mean. :-)
that would be awesome!! ive thought about doing some kind of hoop yoga video.... would love to see other peoples ideas.

I will post a video soon.  Currently contracting friends with cameras that work :)
