Hi everyone! I'm really interested in teacher trainings but i'm a little lost in the overload of information.. i'm not really sure where to go or what to do for this. Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hi I'm going to be in the Chicago area mid June....does anyone know of hoop teacher training that will be happening in the area around that time?  (I'm more interested in teaching hoop fitness)....I'm also interested in taking hoop fitness classes. (they don't have much to offer in that area where I live....thanks!

Hi Emma, actually the distance training is ongoing.  The information is provided online and through a textbook. If you want to certify that process is done by completing 7 assignments that will take several weeks to complete as you'll have to be running a regular class series at the time in order to share reflections on your classes.

Hi SaFire! I would really like to do some teacher training with you because i have moved to a new town where i would like make friends with people through hula hooping (i've joined a rock choir, zumba class & rowing club, but you always get to meet nice people hula hooping!). I have been looking into the cost of venue's, making and printing some leaflets. Please would you be able to tell me do you know when your next block of online / distance learning teacher training classes will start? I really want to train with you, that way I know any potential people in my class would have a really good time & I would be less likely to get in a muddle when I try to explain moves to them!!!

Thank you for your help!!! :)

Hi Safire!  How would I go about having my hoop dance teacher training program added to your list?  Hoola-Fit (www.hoola-fit.com) was just approved by the American Council on Exercise.  Participants receive 1.6 CECs.  In addition, we had our first training just last weekend, and it was a huge hit.  I'd love to spread the word and provide interested parties with more info.  Thanks so much!

Hi Carissa,

If fitness is your focus you also have the option of taking a group fitness course, this will give an alternative perspective from my hoop dance training. I've been considering taking a group fitness training myself and might actually have time to fit it in my schedule soon!

I am starting a hoop class at a gym here in Springfield, IL and was wondering how to get started? I really need distance training and was really wanting to take SaFire's classes bc I love her, but I need to be focused on fitness and fun! Question though SaFire. How do you get AFAA or ACE certified? I want to take your classes but it doesn't offer this. What should I do?

The online listing is not a Certification benefit of Hoopnotica....you have to pay an extra $100 for it.

Hey Nicole, Yes please feel free to send me a link to a video; you can make them private on YouTube or Vimeo or you could post one to your profile on Hoop City, or even send the file using www.sendbigfiles.com

I have been back and forth for the past year about this! How does it work with all the big festivals coming up...is there a waiting period? Do you suggest doing your online classes first? I have already done many of your freebies on youtube (actually thats where i started in 2008), much of the videos from hoop university hoopnotica's first 4 videos, and hoopgirls beginner, on top of just plain old watching tutorials on youtube. Could I send you a video and you tell me if you think I am ready?

Thank you SaFire!! I am looking into the fitness areas because of the venues available I think. I am also thinking of looking into the dance studios around here to see if they're interested in providing hoop classes. It's difficult because there are pretty much no hoopers here in Duluth. I think I'll look into the group fitness certifications! I have learned a lot about teaching strategies and skills from my education courses in college- so I guess I'll have to look into the Bodyhoops or Hoopnotica.. although I love that you provide the seeding series and so much online support!!!

Thank you again! You have helped to make my path much clearer!

Hey Pauliann,  Question: You want to teach in gyms and fitness areas because of the venue or because you'll be doing fitness focused classes? If you ARE looking to teach fitness classes, I would look further into Bodyhoops or even Hoopnotica. My program is tailored towards helping teachers become teachers, organize their content and all those other great skills we learn as educators. It also has strong attention to understanding trick breakdowns and the class content is very trick and dance focused.  You may also want to take a group fitness certification through Canfitpro or Ace. I've been trying to take one of these classes for awhile to gain further insight into the fitness side of hooping but it's hard to find the open time to take it.

Hope this helps!

I have no idea which class to take to become a certified hoop instructor. I know I need the distance training - but from there I'm pretty stuck. I have a degree in education and teach frequently in classrooms, so I know how to maintain the atmosphere- how to teach for different learning types and all of that jazz- but I don't know which class to take to become certified!! AH! It's such a difficult decision because it's so much money! (But I'm sure it's well worth it)- I want to teach in the local gyms and fitness areas mostly... any ideas? I like that hoopgirl has the promotional materials and a lot of the stuff they have to offer sounds great- but I also really want to take Safire's classes so I can become a more well-rounded hooper as well... any suggestions or advice would be awesome!!!

hey!  i am interested in doing the distance training for Hoopnotica.  Does anyone know how long it would take for me to become certified?  I have a gym that is interested in me teaching there, but can't start the class until I get certified, and I would like to start soon!!!  Hopefully if I work really hard I can complete the certification quickly!!!   Thank you!!!

Hi GlitterBug,

The training is a distance training provided through Hoop City. The 2 months in the classroom means that you cannot apply for certification until 2 months after you register and have had the time to implement the lessons and write lesson reflections. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey SaFire, I'm really interesting in your teacher training, what does the two months of classroom time look like? and where in edmonton are you located?

Hello Lisa,

I saw your comment on the teacher training page. There are distance trainings available through Hoopnotica, HoopGirl and my program available through Hoop City. From what I know Hoopnotica and HoopGirl both have a more fitness focused program than mine. My training is very open-ended, I offer information on marketing you classes, setting up a healthy learning environment and guiding group activities. I offer detailed lesson plans but also provide you with feedback on how to write your own lessons so you can customize the program to suite your needs. Let me know if you have any additional questions and feel free to message me directly about the detail of the program. If I was going to recommend any program based on your question other than my own I'd suggest Hoopnotica, I've heard their resources are excellent and they have collapsible hoops at discount for instructors. I don't have any products, instead there is a chapter and instructions on how to make you own hoops to sell to students.
All the best,
SaFire
