LET THE HOOPING BEGIN!!
as of 6/1/2010, I have a hula hoop, and I have been loving it so far! I got the hoop going the very first try, and I have been trying out walking while hooping as my first trick. I hope to be able to do that shoulder head-ducking move sometime in the not too far future, and being able to dance - REALLY dance - while keeping the hoop spinning is going to feel awesome once I get there, I just know it!! :D
a little about me:
've spent the past five years doing some pretty extreme workout regimes, including training for and running the marine corps marathon, running the army 10 miler a few times, doing the avon walk for breast cancer, taking krav maga and brazillian jiu jitsu classes, and crossfit.
'm looking for a way to have fun while getting some good exercise in too [and a way that won't leave me so banged up!!]. I miss dancing at clubs to music that I love, and hope to revive that feeling of "therapy on the dance floor" with hoopdancing around my home!

while hooping this evening I was playing w/the direction the hoop was going (I still prefer to the right, but to the left stays up for a while too now!), and decided to try practicing the shimmy up to the chest again (which I have yet to do).
I am happy to report that I got the hoop up over my DD boobs for a few rotations, after MUCH effort and slinking down and and and... then it fell. BUT!! I got it to go up!! 'm not sure if I can repeat it on purpose for now, but... it felt like…

I have discovered that hooping around my neck is fairly natural, for whatever reason. 've also discovered it is pretty easy for me to simply stick my right arm up in the opening of the hoop and let it kind of shimmy/fall down my body until it is at my waist, where I can pick up the hoopingz again. I consider this to be my first official trick! :D
I spent a good 30 mins tonight sitting indian-style, cradling the hoop around my upper back and shoulders, and attempting to master this…

I am still mastering walking around while hooping, but that hasn't stopped me from attempting to hoop around my chest, my thighs, my neck, and my hands. I have managed to keep the hoop going on my hands and neck alright, surprisingly enough, however - it huuuurt on my hands especially. I got the basic beginner's hoop from tailspin hoops, the 41"-er, and while it is awesome for waist hooping, I'm beginning to wonder if it'll be helpful for learning any other levels on my body, just because of…

Alrighty, today marks me owning a hula hoop for 30 days, an entire month. Due to work travel and general wacky home improvement events occurring, I didn't get to hoop every day, which makes me sad. On the other hand, when I did get time to hoop, I tried to carve out at LEAST half an hour, if not more, and practiced my patoot off.
I am happy to report that I have progressed from simply standing still & hooping, to being able to take 2 steps, turn 180, take 2 steps, turn 180,…
