About Me

When did you first start hooping? I've been able to do the basics (could spin it round my waist and neck but not move it between the two - that sort of level) for ages. I've been teaching circus skills workshops for many years so I had to be able to do a few hoop tricks. Then this year I met Choi Tse on Spark! circus project in Thailand, and her limtless energy and enthusiasm inspired me to get more into it. Now I might be mildly obsessed.

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper? I like thinking of my skill level as always roughly in the middle, however long I do something for. Then no matter how far I've travelled I've still got the same distance left to go, which is rather satisfying.

How often do you hoop? Usually every day if possible.

Do you have an indoor hoop space? Yes, under my house :).

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with? Yeah lots. Bristol is a great place to learn hoop!

Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught? I've taught very basic hoop to kids for many years. No idea how many I've taught. Some, bordering on many.

What is your favorite song right now? 'Standing in the Way of Control' by Gossip. I think I'm going to make a video to it soon.

Do you buy hoops or make your own? Mostly make my own except when it comes to LEDs, fire or fancy plastics.

What size is your favorite hoop? 36" 3/4" HDPE. They're a perfect balance between being able to hoop them, and being able to juggle them.

Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place? Fo sho.

How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today? From other people.

Who is your favorite hoop teacher? I'm going to have to go with Choi Tse at the moment because she inspired me to do more hoop.

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers? Practice. Practice. Practice. Then practice some more. The hardest things to learn are generally the most satisfying to do.

Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to? Not yet but I'm just about to buy a bunch of quick wicks.

Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it? Not yet :( I want some psihoops to poi with.

What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn? Juggling five hoops.

Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get? That trick where you dance at the same time.

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city? Too many to count.

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience? Yeah. I did a one to four hoop routine at a kids party for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It was rather fun.

Have you ever hooped naked? Yes :).

Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one? UK Hoop Gathering 2010! It was amazing. Now I'm looking forward to Swhoop.

Sharon, Sharon, Sharon. While I appreciate your kind words the fact you post the same words all over the internet makes me feel slightly less special. If you want to talk with me then I think for the moment here is good.

xx

People are saying such lovely things. Thank you all very much! xxx Just to confirm with the Hoobe it is literally just a couple of circles of tape around each intersection. It feels like it won't work until you put on the last two faces and then it becomes solid. Cheers.
