How Can I Hurt Me? Let me count the ways...

Posted on August 19, 2012 at 4:30pm 1 Comment

How can I hurt me? Let me count the ways.

I hurt me to the depth and breadth and height

My hoop can reach, before reaching for the arnica

and Bandages of Ace and Epsom's salts.

I hurt me to the level of every hoop's

weight and height, by gaffer burn and metal-scrape.

I hurt me freely, as I have band-aids;

I hurt me joyfully, and reach for…

Spins and Turns: How to Prevent Dizziness and Maintain Balance

Posted on February 21, 2011 at 12:30pm 3 Comments

I think one of the biggest reasons people lose balance is not dizziness ... it's that they haven't built their foundation from the ground up. They're up on their toes so the slightest little thing can make them fall over. Add a little dizziness or bumpy ground and you're all over the place. Try putting your heels on the ground, feeling all four corners of your right foot, all four corners of your left foot and all for corners of the box they create together. Keep your knees soft. (When…

Hey! I was just watching the Skill Toys and Your Health video. Good stuff.

Burning Man conclave was an incredible rite of passage! I honestly can't give you much of an opinion about the actual performance because I was just on auto-pilot. One of my fellow spinners turned to me after it was over and asked "were you there for that?" I told her "not completely." That makes sense too, because the choreographed stuff went great, but at the end when it turned into a free spin I found myself there in front of the crowd all of a sudden - as if teleported - not knowing what to do. I did a few moves and it was fine, but I definitely didn't have a good flow going.

But the crowd loved us and we felt so honored to have been chosen for the inner circle, and afterward we were all riding such a high from it all! We cruised all around on our art car(bus), stopping at various places to throw down more fire. It was amazing.

I wish there was some video... but nothing has surfaced yet. We did have an official photographer who got some good shots. They're at:

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.760225679677.2212579.19600840&type=3

http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.760238703577.2212583.19600840&type=3

But I don't know if those are public. If not, you can see a bunch on my FB profile - they're the most recently tagged ones.

In other news... we've been bringing the hoops to OccupyWallStreet! Dawn Zuppelli came down from upstate and has been camped out there. I did some hooping there today, and yesterday Ann Humphreys, Ali Luminescent, $mall ¢hange, and others spun... I know Ter'i was there a few days ago too.

Hey Beautiful,

I forgot to tell you that I passed on your regards to Chad.... and the moment I mentioned your name his face lit up like a Christmas tree!

Oh, and I was wondering if you ever dug up that peanut dressing recipe. I found a really good one online ( http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Japanese-Peanut-Salad-Dressing/Detail.aspx ) but it's not THE one.
