Just wondering - how many of us are also on SparkPeople, either with the same user name or a different one? I'm on there as Hoopin4Health.  If you're on too, feel free to add me as a friend. :)

Hooping at Walmart

Posted on April 20, 2013 at 4:16pm 4 Comments

So, I'm walking through the local big box store, arguing with myself about whether or not to get the kettlebell I want. Workout equipment, or gas for the car?  Of course, maintaining my means of transportation to work won.

Anyway, as I'm heading through to the front from the exercise equipment aisle, I hear a familiar "shoop shoop". I grin to myself and comment to no one in particular, "Someone's playing with a hoop."

Just then, I hear a plaintive cry: "I've…

Downsizing

Posted on April 2, 2013 at 9:10pm 2 Comments

I've been downsizing recently. It started when I began a new job in January and realized that the new pants I'd just bought a month earlier were too big. I'd been losing weight without knowing it, which was odd since I was not hooping or exercising (foot injury) and not really paying attention to what I was eating. I was mostly schlumping around the house in baggy clothes, job hunting online and haunting a couple of Facebook groups. I had no idea the pounds were dropping…

Slipping over the borderline

Posted on March 15, 2013 at 8:34pm 3 Comments

At the end of 2009, I had a bit of a scare. My doctor said I had Type 2 diabetes. Turned out to be a bad test result, but the prospect of the D word was what propelled me into my first hoop.

For three years following that scare, I stayed prediabetic, skating along on the safe side of the borderline. In 2010, I was an avid hooper, even though I had a torn calf muscle and a foot injury. In 2011, I fought to maintain my enthusiasm as my monthly hoop jam died a slow death. Minor…

Calling all illustrators

Posted on August 8, 2012 at 9:30pm 0 Comments

I'm in the process of writing a three-book fantasy series in which hooping plays a major role. I can handle photo manipulation software okay, but I'm not sure I can manage to execute my vision for the book covers.

I figure, who better to capture the spirit of a hoop fantasy story than hoopers? If any illustrators/artists out there are interested in collaborating, please message me and I'll explain what I have in mind. Thanks!

ETA August 9: The first two books…

hi Traci, mahalo (thank you ) for the add! i just started hooping in late February. been having trouble with spinning, you spin so darned well and smooth! also just got a wrist injury about two weeks ago, and heck, don't it get you down. i overdid it with the reverse infinity moves, and now, just to open a bottle gives me the tweaks of pain. i just saw your torn calf muscle video, wow!!! thank you for inspiring people far away, even in the 50th state! :)
