Oh gosh, I'm in NYC with a three year old running around being crazy and wonderful and realizing that a lot of what I'm writing might not make sense. Just gotta say BIG CONGRATS on the job. I know you were excited about it and I'm very happy for you!

Laughing at your post. Yes, a trip to Arizona would be really nice. I regret that I didn't get to hoop more with you. But we'll have opportunities again. I'll mention Phoenix to Bax and maybe we can get something rolling. Best to you with you new john, I mean JOB!

Welcome to Winston-Salem! This is a friendly and fun little city.

I hope to meet you soon at one of Kelly's hoop jams. She is an amazing teacher! If you want to get a punch card to take her classes at the YWCA, please let me know. The 10-class punch card is $75 for non-members, but I can get you one at the member price for $35. Yep, that's $3.50 a class!

I look forward to hooping with you!

Hi Jessica! Welcome to Winston-Salem!
First Friday on Trade Street, Hal Clayton and I have a free community hoop jam. We bring enough demo hoops for a big party, and will do a short performance, brought to you by Seven Seas Dance.

I sell hoops at the Dixie Classic Farmer's Market on Saturdays. The fairground has just given me permission to have a free community jam there also on Saturday mornings from 10:00 -12:00 am. We had TONS of fun yesterday.

I teach at the Gateway YWCA. We are working on having hoop jams there, outside in the front huge walkway on Wednesday evenings but have not officially started.
The Executive Director has given us permission.

There are 3 other Winston-Salem hoopers here on Hoop City that will be fun people for you to meet. I will send you their links in private.

There are two other hoop teachers in town that I am aware of, Monica Casey of and a fitness instructor named Constance Poe who has developed a Cardio Hooping program. (yawn,.. sorry).

Looking forward to hooping with you!!! ^____^

Hoop Love,

A little bit more of my hoop life.

How old are you? 26

When did you first start hooping? In February 2009, I went to a Valentine's party at the Highland Inn and they had hoops. Everyone was trying to show some tricks. I went up there and did the helicopter, it slipped from my hand and hit a girl in the face... luckily I knew her, from then on I was bound and determined to learn how to hoop so I don't hit anyone else in the face. haha! :)

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper? I would say intermediate to advanced. There are a lot of tricks I don't know that i'm still working on twin hooping.

How often do you hoop? I try to pick it up at least every other day, if not everyday.

Do you have an indoor hoop space? yes, the garage on cold days, which is every day now days.

Is there a hoop group where you live? no

Did you start it? no

Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping? ABSOLUTELY!! If I don't hoop for a while I miss it terribly. I'm constantly watching videos if I can't hoop. Just to get a taste of it.

Have you posted hooping videos? yes, I like to chronicle my progress.

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with? i mainly hoop alone. But every now again i'll get together with others.

Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught? randomly i do. If I come across another hoopers that have questions. But I don't teach a class or anything.

What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping? anything and everything on my ipod. I like to mix and match, speed up and then slow down.

Do you buy hoops or make your own? make my own. Which is much more fulfilling than buying them. I however have not attempted making LED hoops yet.

Have you lost weight since starting to hoop? i don't think so, but I've definitely gotten more toned.

What size is your favorite hoop? 1/2" tubing 35" diameter

Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place? yes.

How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today? youtube tutorials mainly. But lately I've gone about figuring out tricks on my own, which is very tough, but rewarding.

Who is your favorite hoop teacher? Safire and myself. A lot of times I can watch something on a video and figure it out.

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers? don't get frustrated! one day you'll think "i'm NEVER gonna get this" and then a couple of days later you'll have it. It's so rewarding. Be patient and practice practice practice!

Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to? no i don't have one, and YES i really want one. If only I weren't unemployed. wah wah.

Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it? yes. it's from Trick Concepts.

How much time do you spend on safiredance.ning? maybe an hour or so a day

What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)? going from lasso and putting it back on my waist

What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn? the roll across my back/roll across my chest. I'm just now getting the roll across my back.

Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get? step through with no hands. how in the hell does Shpongled hoops do it??

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city? a handful

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience? yes, still working on the whole nerves thing.

What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop? bruises on my shins from catching the hoop in between my legs and then reversing it.

Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one? no, but i'd love to! I need to meet more hoopers. Right now I mainly hoop by myself, but i'm trying to change that.
