Profile Information

Do you teach hoop classes? *Please only answer 'yes' if you teach classes on a regular basis.
Yes
What year did you start hooping? (e.g. 2003)
2009
What is your goal for 2014 and why is it important? (Doesn't have to be hoop related.)
Continue with new and innovative ways to help myself and others stay fit.
Homestay - Click yes if you would consider sharing accommodations with Hoop City Citizens visiting your hometown.
Yes
How old are you?
59 years young.

When did you first start hooping?
Latter part of 2009.

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper?
Beginner soon to be intermediate.

How often do you hoop?
Not often enough!

Do you have an indoor hoop space?
Yes and no.... have a little bit of space but the ceiling is very low. It is now very colorfully marked up.

Is there a hoop group where you live?
No but I have limited access to NYC and will try and meet other hoopers when I'm comfortable with my own level.

Did you start it? N/A

Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping?
I'm obsessed with exercise. Hooping, for me, is another way to get more people active, moving, and off the couch. It's fun and people forget they're working out. That's the best kind of exercise.

Have you posted hooping videos? How many?
No. I don't have a video cam.

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with?
Other than the group I work with at our fitness club and another group fitness instructor who's helping me with the class, no. There's no one around to just go out and have fun hooping with. There are some clubs in NYC where hooping is popular and there's people that get together in the city but other than that the general public her is the northeast, is just becoming aware of hooping. It's very different from the west coast where it's been part of fitness for a long time.

Since Reebok purchased and took over Cirque du Soleil I think there's going to be an explosion, awakening, and awareness on the horizon that will include trapeze, juggling, poi, silks, hooping, etc. I think it's very exciting!

Clothing For Outdoor Winter Hooping

Posted on October 6, 2010 at 4:30am 1 Comment

One of the best sites (best deals are on internet) for warm, comfortable, clothing that you can layer without bulk is a company called Title Nine. They have a fantastic winter line, comparable prices to other better clothing outlets and their stuff lasts forever.

Their line includes winter skirts, dresses and sports bras too.

Joan!  I hope all is well out in NYC.  I see you braving the snow to get your hoop on.  Good for you.  I hope to be out your way soon and I'll definitely let you know when I am.  Keep on rocking!

WOW custom reformers for football players?!? That's fascinating and intriguing. Are they ginormous??

I've been mat certified and teaching for 4 years, machine teaching for 3. I really love how Pilates anatomical training/ cueing informs my Hooping and Hoop teaching.

I didn't realize you were in Jersey until you mentioned it! Let me know what you hear about The Printing House (?) and we'll work something out!!

Nice to connect.

Hi Joan!
I just saw your comment that you're subbing a Reformer class for a friend Thursday. It's nice to "meet" another hooping PIlates teacher!! Do you teach regularly? I'd love to know more about your PIlates background. Maybe we could exchange a trade sometime. I teach at Dance New Amsterdam and two studios in Williamsburg.
