Oops, I just found the intro. I have some friends that hoop and thought it might be fun. I went to a Contra Dance week in West Virginia and brought 100' of 3/4" pipe and some tape and decided to try it. I made about 8 hoops and by the end of the week I could waist hoop pretty good. There was a little girl there that was doing some amazing things. I even sold some hoops there. I came back and found this site, which is great as there aren't any hoopers where I live yet, but I'm going to change…
Hi Joe, about the fabric hoop...I used 1/2 inch pvc pipe from Lowes then sewed each fabric strip together by machine until the piece was long enough to cover the full diameter, folded the entire strip in half the long way (right side of the fabric facing inward) and sewed down the long edge by machine. Last, turn the long loop right side out and slide the pipe in before connecting, carefully fold the unfinished edges under and whip stitch the closure from the outside...hope that helps, hard to explain without pictures (which I didn't think to take while it was in process of course!)
Mad Maxine reminded us recently of your awesome trick for connecting Hoops with Scrap Tubing. I was making Mini Hoops that were all wobbly because of the connecters and I think your trick is going to solve my problem. SO Thanks Joe!
