Do you teach hoop classes? *Please only answer 'yes' if you teach classes on a regular basis.
No
What year did you start hooping? (e.g. 2003)
2003
Who is your hoop mamma or papa? (The person who introduced you to hooping)
Ariel Meadow Stallings
Who's hoop style do you love? i.e. Who inspires you?
Sharna Rose
What is your goal for 2014 and why is it important? (Doesn't have to be hoop related.)
I'm doing monthly goals. January's hooping goal is to perfect the "resting" hand or hand not hooping into a neutral position.

I'm also doing the 30/30 challenge on Hooping.org!

That Good Ol Hoop Survey

How old are you? 39...yikes!

When did you first start hooping? Jan. 2003

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper? I'm working on advancing to advanced.

How often do you hoop? I try to spin daily with a polypro hoop and with minis.

Do you have an indoor hoop space? Yes, my living room is big enough for most stuff, and my gym.

Is there a hoop group where you live? Yes, several in the area.

Did you start it? Actually I started the first hoop group in Dallas, but no one came and then I became pregnant with twins. In my hiatus, a friend started a great group in downtown Dallas.

Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping? Yes. I dream about hooping.

Have you posted hooping videos? How many? Yes, I've got mini-vids on my website and some practice sessions and a performance video.

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with? Nearby is a stretch, but I do have a great group of hooping friends!

Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught? Yes I teach level 1 and level 2. I think over 300 or so.

What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping? I personally hoop to 90s and current rock/industrial music. For classes I love having a wide variety of disco, pop, 80s and current.

What is your favorite song right now? Florence + the machine Dog Days

Do you buy hoops or make your own? Make my own.

Have you lost weight since starting to hoop? Yep.

What size is your favorite hoop? Right now it's 36" polypro.

Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place? Oh yeah, I'm a bit of an exhibitionist.

How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today? Videos, self-taught with lots of hours beating myself up in the backyard. Now I'm in pretty much all of Safire's classes. Love them!

Who is your favorite hoop teacher? I got a chance to take from my hoop Gods and Goddesses at HoopConvergence. Too hard to pick a favorite though I loved Stephan from Groove Hoops.

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers? You have permission to drop the hoop! Many many times! If you're not dropping the hoop you're not challenging yourself.

Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to? I don't, but I'd like to try it. I had the opportunity at HoopCon, but wasn't feeling well that night.

Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it? Yes, I made it myself from a kit. And I have a Rainborion from Cosmic Hooper which snaps into minis. Love it!

How much time do you spend on safiredance.ning? I try to hit it daily.

What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)? The Revolving Door! Whoo-hoo!

What is the last trick you mastered? Stag's Leap, I'm working on leg scissor kicks and haven't quite got the hang of it yet.

What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn? 2-beat weave. Like an insanely long time to wrap my head around it. Although the 3-beat weave came fast after that.

Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get? turning with 3-beat, and getting the hang of the reverse 3-beat with minis.

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city? Maybe 400 or so.

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience? Yes and it's terrifying for me.

Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop? lol, no. It always makes people smile.

What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop? Bruised hands and knees from incorrect form and heavy hoops. I can't tell you how many times I've smacked myself in the head. I hit myself full in the face with my mini night before last, so the pain never goes away. :)

Have you ever hooped naked? Don't we ALL hoop naked? Yes, though a better question would be have you ever hooped naked in public?

Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one? Yes, I went to the 2009 HoopConvergence and it was a humbling and awesome experience. I've been blessed to attend a Hoop Technique workshop with Rich and Spiral. I loved Miss Rosie's Opening to your Grace workshop this past year and I'm happy to be attending the Hoop Path Deep Waters workshop coming to Dallas.

pushing forward

Posted on December 26, 2010 at 1:01pm 0 Comments

This has been a blessed, challenging, and fruitful year. Looking back, I've learned a lot about my strengths, weaknesses, and short comings. This new year I'm adopting a "saving" philosophy and practicing mindfulness. I will connect on a deeper level with my spouse, children, family and peers. I will push myself forward, break through personal barriers, and reach for breakthroughs. I will remind myself to be the change I want to see in the world and shine on.

hoops-a-plenty

Posted on December 1, 2010 at 9:30pm 0 Comments

I'm up to my eyeballs in hoops these days. Ringling called again and needs a rush on mini hoops for the clowns. I'm half way done with the order and hope to get there hoops in the mail on Friday. I love the frenzy, but I'm feeling a bit frantic about keeping track and getting it all done.

I had a great class tonight with my ladies of Allen. They are a great group of women. We did a lot of arm work tonight so my shoulders are bit sore. I'm trying to resist the urge to eat. Somehow…

3-beat weave

Posted on July 26, 2010 at 3:20pm 1 Comment

Oh happy day! I got the 3-beat weave today! I am doing a happy feet dance! This is one of those tricks it took me ages to wrap my head around. With some advice from the forum, I played around with timing and also started the trick with both hoops on one side of my body. That helped a lot. I also slowed the hoop doing the single weave down for "up and over" as the hoop doing the double rolled around my thumb.

It just goes to show that practice and SLOW practice pays off! Keep going…

mountain hooping

Posted on June 27, 2010 at 3:57pm 0 Comments

I've brought my twins to my parents mountain getaway home for their community day camp. I'm excited to have them in camp for a few hours the next few days and I can get in some serious hoop time. I'm currently working on perfecting leg hooping and twins. I'm also working on workshop material for our big event Aug. 21st in downtown Dallas.

The beauty of the mountians is so inspiring, evenings cool and you can almost taste the green in the air. Carolina mountain happiness!

practice, practice, practice

Posted on May 29, 2010 at 12:00pm 0 Comments

I'm working getting a daily practice going in the mornings, before little ones wake up. I'm not going to lie--I LOVE sleep. I'm a sleepaholic. My natural body clock is up at 7:24 a.m., which is a few minutes before the girls start to stir. Hubby wakes up and is out the door by 6:20 a.m., so that's my new personal goal. I figure it will be cool enough outside still and I can maybe share a cup of joe with my man.

They say it takes 30 days to form a habit. I'm starting on…
