My name is Kayla Dixon  aka 'Dixie' and I discovered hooping while taking a pole dancing class.  Weird.  I know.  That was October 2nd, 2010. :) I am 29 and am currently in the military and am pursuing my degree Social Work.

I've had lots of challenges; mental, physical, emotional.  I've gone from being the type of person everyone wanted me to be to being who I wanted to be. I find peace in my plastic circle; escape, joy, calm.  I wish I had discovered it sooner.

I used to take static trapeze class but had to discontinue due to money.

 :*(  I loved it and would love to start doing it again, but I don't see that happening in the future.

yes, my living room, but no tosses are allowed...ceiling is too low.

I used to be. Now it's just a hobby I do a lot. :)

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with?
no, but I don't mind teaching little kids

I've taught a few people the escalator and one girl the vortex...she got it right after 5 tries.

Do you buy hoops or make your own?

I used to make my own, but then I discovered poly pro and can't get enough of it....so I have all the neon colors in 34's and 32', an LED hoop in a 33'.

Have you lost weight since starting to hoop?
Yes but I was also doing other workouts and watching my diet.

Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place?
Yes. I do it all the time

Safire, GrooovinMegz, Jon Coyne, Chemigals, Babz

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers?
Don't give up...you will get frustrated, tired, bruised...If you just can't get something move on to something else and try again later. I've found that the quit and try again later method is amazing.

Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to?
Yes and it is the greatest thing I have ever done.

Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it?
Yes; I have one white one from superhooper and one called neon from mood hoops.

How much time do you spend on Hoop City?
not so much anymore...spen dmore time hooping and prepping for festivals.

What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)?
vortex

What is the last trick you mastered?
3 hoops, one leg.

What trick/s so far was the hardest for you to learn?
horizontal elbow pass; elbow attack (I've done it once!!!)

Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get?
Kick starts.  Gave up. The bruising was too horrible and people thought I was being tied up and abused.

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city?
0, just lil' ole me.

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience?
Drum circles, family, burn events, friends, paid parties

Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop?
no, but I do get jokes about being a kind of cheerleader...which makes no sense.

What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop?
severe rolled ankle...no standing on it for a week and a half.

Have you ever hooped naked?
yep...it sticks so well to skin.

Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one?
I want to but they are so far away and I am not allowed to fly anymore. :(
