How old are you? 21
When did you first start hooping? February 2010. I was having a bad day and I had an LED hoop sitting around that my aunt gave me for Christmas. I picked it up and started to play with it. Not only did it cheer me up, but I found my new passion!
Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper? I'd say intermediate. I'm getting better with every day!
How often do you hoop? Everyday. Multiple times if I can.
Do you have an indoor hoop space? Ehh I'm not happy with it because I bump into everything with such a small space. I'm about to move though and I will definitely set up a hooping space!
Is there a hoop group where you live? Not really
Did you start it? No, but I'd love to start a new group one day!
Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping? Oh yes. It's my passion. My obsession. My baby. =)
Have you posted hooping videos? How many? So far, one! More to come!
Do you have friends nearby to hoop with? I don't =(
Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught? I don't. I tried to teach my mom it didn't go to well haha.
What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping? Lots of Beats antique. Some Dave Matthews. Crystal Method. The Gorillaz are fun as well. Anything with a fun beat =)
What is your favorite song right now? I have a few favorites right now. 1.) Born Secular by Jenny Lewis 2.)What I Got by Sublime and Golly Sandra by Eisley
Do you buy hoops or make your own? I buy them and are gifted many hoops thanks to my aunt who created Trick Concepts!
Have you lost weight since starting to hoop? I have lost a little. I'm definitely more toned.
What size is your favorite hoop? My favorite is a 37" but I like to play with a lot of 38"s as well.
Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place? I am now!! It took some adjusting but now I love it.
How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today? Half of them from you tube and the other half by just playing around.
Who is your favorite hoop teacher? SaFire and IsoPop
What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers? Focus on your dance with the hoop instead of tricks. Tricks will come naturally with time but dance is something that needs to be practiced. That is what makes hooping so beautiful.
Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to? I DO!! I love the whooshing sound that the fire makes when it hits the wind. Ahh.
Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it? I have 2 LED hoops. Both from Trick Concepts =)
How much time do you spend on Hoop City Hooping Community? I come by once every couple of days.
What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)? The vortex. I was determined to get that down before anything else haha.
What is the last trick you mastered? Breaks and reversals as well as foot hooping.
What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn? Shoulder hooping. I don't know why it was so hard for me but it took a lot of frustration moments before I got it down.
Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get? One shoulder hooping. It flies off of my body EVERY time no matter what I try.
How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city? Not many. Under 10?
Have you performed hooping in front of an audience? Yes, a rather large audience. Totally nerve racking but SO worth it.
Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop? My grandmother haha. Most people just don't know what they are missing out on!
What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop? I hit myself on the nose once and almost cried because it was a heavy hoop. Other than that.. lots of bruises on my legs.
Have you ever hooped naked? I haven't tried it yet!
Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Well I went to FireDrums in Santa Cruz. It's not specifically for hoopers but quite a few hoopers were there! It's more for anyone who spins ANY kind of fire toy. =)
Thanks for reading!! Happy hooping!
