Theory of the hoop... pros/cons

Posted on December 15, 2010 at 9:00am 0 Comments

Keep in mind this is just one subjective spinners thoughts and he just began his journey with this circle. :) I am comparing it with my experience to staff, chucks and poi.

Pros: Rolling momentum. Easy to maintain flow (if planes are straight) because it naturally keeps spinning. Large size makes poi moves look great. Symmetrical circular design makes *excellent* antispin/isolation effects. Easiest prop to catch from a throw (it floats). Stalls roll naturally. Stings when it…

Living the philosophy of a circle...

Posted on December 1, 2010 at 8:30am 2 Comments

In life, I find myself going through great paths and journeys only to come back to the start, only slightly changed. I think anyone that has spent months perfecting a trick only to have it shine for a second in their freestyle knows what I'm talking about. ;) I think life is very much the same. We swing like pendulums, gather colors from others and absorb. We move through great strides and each succeeding action adds a subtle shift to our consciousness and understandings...but it's the little…

So...

My life is a mix of family, philosophy, music and fire. I've been immersed into martial arts and spinning for over half of my life.

Its a brilliant idea, I'm the opposite, I really want to get into staff. I think I have a head start given my baton and flag background. Suggestions of the purchase of a staff? Can't wait to play with your fantastic staff/hoop creation!

Ha! I started learning nunchucks last year--only for a brief period of time... I was the "Ninja of Love" for our Valentine's Day show (With Somasphere from NE actually!) and thought it'd be fun to break out the 'chucks instead of a hoop that night, ha. Maybe if I had a higher quality pair I would've stuck with it.... Toys R Us just didn't cut it :)

Just saw you live near Omaha! I lived there for a few months in '07 but soon found my way back to Lawrence... We head that way for shows all the time, love the Nebraska crew! Keep in touch, maybe we'll get to spin together someday!! Blessings!

Thanks for the friendship! Yes, give me any prop and I'll figure out how to spin it! I'm doing a poi/fire eating show in Denver on NYE, should be fun :) Still smiling over the staff/hoop creation--great job!
