Profile Information

What is your goal for 2012 and why is it important? (Doesn't have to be hoop related.)
Upper body barrel rolls!!! Oh, and signing up for my psychology degree, and passing my SIgn Language level 1 please!
How old are you? 34

When did you first start hooping? Summer 2007

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper? Intermediate

How often do you hoop? 1 hour a day if I can

Do you have an indoor hoop space? I say yes, Hubby disagrees when hes watching TV or playing XBox!!!

Is there a hoop group where you live? Sadly no

Did you start it? It's an idea, if I could get more people interested

Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping? Yes!

Have you posted hooping videos? How many? Only one, of me trying some stuff when I was quite new, I don't like that video and hope to add better ones soon

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with? I have one but her neck is poorly and she can't hoop at the minute :(

Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught? My 2 sons, and I showed my neices how when I visited them this weekend

What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping? I haven't done that yet, as most of my hooping is done outdoors or evening while hubby is watching TV

What is your favorite song right now? Deer Dance, System of a Down...not good for hooping, really

Do you buy hoops or make your own? I only have one, which I bought, but I intend to try making one at some point

Have you lost weight since starting to hoop? Not really but my tummy seems more toned

What size is your favorite hoop? I only have experience of my one

Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place? I'm ok if its a big place like the beach and people aren't too close

How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today? Youtube videos

Who is your favorite hoop teacher? Safire, she explains details that others seems to miss or take for granted.

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers? Don't be put off if you feel awkward and clumsy, keep doing it! Try not to compare your progress with others, some people pick things up ridiculously fast, and others like me are left toiling behind! Take it at your own pace, every step is a victory for you, no matter how long it takes.

Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to? I would rather get really proficient at normal hooping first.

Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it? No, I would like one but can't justify it really as I can't think when I could use it

How much time do you spend on safiredance.ning? ages...

What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)? float up

What is the last trick you mastered? Upper body barrel rolling...still practicing though

What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn? So far it was the float up, in terms of difficulty and time spent trying it, and of course, injuries!

Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get? Continuous step through. I just don't know why, but I cannot make it work

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city? i only know of 3 or 4

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience? No, but the school kids keep asking me!

Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop? Yes

What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop? Wrenching my neck, that hurt the most and took longest to get better

Have you ever hooped naked? No, but I have hooped in my underwear to hubbys delight...

Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one? No I would love to!

Hooping in the woods

Posted on August 17, 2009 at 5:59pm 0 Comments

I must do this again. I hooped in the woods today. I had taken the boys to meet some friends and their kids, and I took hoopy, and I did a few drills while they sat and chatted, and then my friends daughter came over and put her I-pod on the ground near me and said "here you can dance to that", and she played some Christina Aguilera for me. I hooped for ages to it, and I actually felt like I was dancing, for the first time ever. Had an awesome time and my day felt better because the hooping…

Fed up

Posted on August 2, 2009 at 4:15pm 2 Comments

I'm sick so no hooping today. This is pretty crap, I have had a battle with an episode of scabies I caught from my brother, and my immune system took a bit of a knock I think, (for anyone who has never had it, you basically have to cover yourself in nerve agent to kill these bugs, poison is not good for you...) I didn't manage to kill them for months, and now they're gone but I am hyper sensitive to allergen now and it is hayfever season yay...so now I have an enlarged epiglottis, which is…

Prototype LED hoop in test phase...

Posted on July 29, 2009 at 6:30pm 2 Comments

Ok its 1.36 am but I must just jot down that phase one went reasonably well, tested in garden as shown in latest vid. It is extremely light due to the materials, and it wasn't properly fixed as I realised when I increased the speed lol! All in all though I think this shows promise. Cost so far has come to around £8, at the most. Not bad for an LED hoop. Will keep updates of progress.

Rained off

Posted on July 29, 2009 at 11:46am 0 Comments

Today has been a bust, it started all sunny, but by the time I was showered and ready, a great deluge had set in, and has remained for the whole day!

I recently had a plan. It may not be fantastic but I am going to try it. In Tesco there are some child size hoops, cheap and flimsy. I bought a couple of them to try some twin moves, since hoops aren't cheap and I can't find anywhere to get supplies to make em....plus the fact I have little time!

Well, the little hoops had…

Here goes

Posted on July 27, 2009 at 5:45pm 0 Comments

I don't know how to do this, I haven't really written a journal before but I want to put something here so there we are.

I thought it was a good idea to say something about where I am at hooping wise. I have been hooping on and off for about 2 years or maybe more, but not consistently, and the speed of my progress (or lack thereof) indicates this. However, recently I have been hooping daily, having finished work for the summer, and have started to become much more in tune with the…

Hey Liz you posted something on my account about my kiddies hoop.
Didn't see it until now.

The reason I use a kids hoop is because I can't buy an adults hoop, wouldn't know where to buy that if my life depended on it.
We dond't have hoop stores here in Holland nor websites where I can order one.
If I want to buy one on an american website I pay an extra 50 dollars (don't even know how much euro's that is) just for shipping, and that's without the hoop!!

Pity though.... My hoop is really light and I have to spin like a madman to keep it up....

Maybe one day, when they'll sell them in holland

In the vid I actually do both or attempt to do both anyway. If you hoop to the left, doing your left leg will be harder to take out but easier to bring in and just the opposite with the right. This has been a very hard trick for me to master. I'm about 75% of the way there!
