Hello circularlogic,
I own a spiral slicer (I think it was from Joyce Chen). I like it although it took a little practice to use it properly. I never used a mandolin so I cannot compare. I think it was worth the 30$ I paid! Let me know if you try it!

Hi girl! Got the message about shoes; I second CircularLogic's recommendation. I use a split sole dance sneaker, the Capezio Freedom...all cloth upper and superlightweight. I think I got them at On Stage Dancewear's website.

Hi Natacha, you asked about shoes... I'm a big fan of split sole jazz shoes... next best thing to barefoot! I like capezio's leather & fabric shoe best. You can get them online at Discount Dance Supply.

I have not found the tubing so I use the 100 anyways. I bought tape on ebay stores and at identytape, which I find very convenient.
I'm thinking I could buy some tubing next time I go to the States...
