Has hooping changed the way you dance without the hoop???

I've grown to prefer dancing with the hoop, but I think I'm using my body differently now when I dance without it. I haven't actually watched myself, but I can say that it feels more sensual - freer…

"I am 5'10" I use a 42" hoop. I make most of mine in the 40-42 inch range, unless someone requests smaller. I think it is a good size for most beginners.I will make larger hoops for those who have trouble."

My Journey to Find Physical Balance

Where to begin? If I'd known how fascinating the journey to find physical balance would be, I'd have started this journal years ago. I had the talotarsal dislocation corrected on my right foot on June 16th. It still hurts to put weight on it and I'm still using a walker, but the changes are phenomenal. I can stand on both feet and my right side feels grounded. I remember reading about that feeling and yearning for it, but I couldn't find it. I kept having this nagging feeling that the problem…See More

What year did you start hooping? (e.g. 2003)
2009
What is your goal for 2013 and why is it important? (Doesn't have to be hoop related.)
I have several goals for 2011 and this year I'm focusing on self-improvement. For one, there is some cosmetic dentistry I want to have done. It's one of those things I want to do for me - it's not about what I look like to others - I just want the image in the mirror to better reflect how I feel about myslef on the inside. I also have balance issues due to some inner ear (vestibular) problems, so I'm going to pursue this with a specialist. I have postitional vertigo and I'm tired of having to monitor the postion of my head to avoaid dizziness. On the hooping front, I want to back it up and concentrate on refining what I've learned.. I'd like to start the online seedling classes with the ultimate goal of getting a teaching certification. We have a local rec center not far and I just think it would be fun to offer hooping classes there.

Is hooping hard???

Posted on June 6, 2011 at 12:30pm 0 Comments

Since I've been hooping, I've had a number of people want to give it a try. Some, of course, catch the hoop 'bug'. Others end up commenting, "Wow, it's hard" and simply give up. So I've been thinking a lot lately: IS hooping along with the associated tricks/moves hard?

I started answering myself with another question: What does learning to hoop really entail? Well, if you bring it down to the very basics, it's understanding the mechanics and applying the time and effort necessary for…

How weird is the sub-conscious mind!

Posted on December 9, 2010 at 7:41pm 0 Comments

I was just mentioning something in a forum about my balance (or lack therof). When I hit post, I saw my profile pic and it dawned on me that I must have subconsciously picked that particular picture. One of the desires of my heart is to have the ability to stand on one foot. Seems funny to me to even admit this when there are people with real problems. Thus far I'm unable to balance on one foot for more than a split second due to some vestibular issues I've been pursuing with the doctors.…

I meant to do that yesterday via a message but sidetracking and me, well, we go waaaaaaaaay back!

The best place to find my stuff is on a kinda hokey little critique site, all my stuff is there for a free download, I don't do the whole critiquing thing as I take stuff as it is BUT I DO like sharing so posted my stuff...and coffee (the latter maybe too much)

Hi!!! Nice to meet you!!!

That lil bear was my much missed Japanese friend's son's bear so is used in conjunction with happy memories whenever I can :o)

I play & teach guitar for a living here in the city (the size of a U.S town!) of New Plymouth in little ol' New Zealand, used to play for a living but too many years before putting the ear plugs in has left me with tinnitus and the word 'pardon?' (or what!?!?!...depends on the mood!)

Oooh, one of my workmates has a Thunderbird bass...looooove those (and the Firebird guitar *sighs*) will share my music with yaz if ya want?

(I write lots)

It's great to have another of my Hoop Dance Sisters here. I've just gotten started learning my way around. There are thousands of hoopers and tons of great hooping resources. I feel a bit like a kid on Christmas morning every time I enter Hoop City.

Enjoy!
