Last week I ordered 4 polypro hoops online, a pair of 38" twins and a pair of 20" minis. I really love them. Tonight I had a friend over and she was horsing around in a lawn chair and tipped it over.…

"ACK! That is so hard to learn!!! So much of hooping is muscle memory, but until you have that memory, it's really tough. I was a slow learner starting out (and still am). I first picked up a hoop in January 2009 and hooped off and on for a…"

Week three of Minis

This entry is pretty long and detailed. It's mostly so I can remember how I learned the three beat weave.I missed writing about week two. I skipped taking notes that week and almost immediately forgot the names of everything we worked on. I think we continued to work on our planes and began working on the two beat weave and also swinging the hoops in front of and behind our heads. I have no idea what it's called, but it looks awesome. I am okay at doing it with twins, but with minis I'm still…See More

January 2009, but have only been really serious about it since May 2011.

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper?
Intermediate

How often do you hoop?
Everyday in the summer. Less in the winter.

Do you have an indoor hoop space?
I just moved a couple of months ago and I do now. The ceiling is a bit low though.

Is there a hoop group where you live?
There's an inclusive arts jam where people hoop and there's some people who do classes and drop-ins.

Did you start it? No.

Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping?
I don't like those words to describe things that are positive. I do really really enjoy hooping though.

Have you posted hooping videos? How many?
No, but I am planning on doing it sooner than later.

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with?
Yes

Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught?
I show my younger sister things, but not beyond that.

Lately I've really been into hooping to the Beatles.

What is your favorite song right now?
I don't really have favourite songs.

I buy them. Canadian tubing seems to be terrible to make hoops with.

Maybe. I don't own a scale.

What size is your favorite hoop?
36", but I use my 38" to learn new things.

Youtube and a friend.

Farrensquare. She got me into hooping and explains things so well.

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers?
Smile and just keep working at it.

Not yet. It's a summer goal. I know I could do it, but I just need a fire hoop to try it out.

Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it?
I do. I have a 36" hoop from Cosmic Hooper. It's white and 7 spectrum LEDs. I also have a 36" Rainborian ordered. His hoops are great and he's a joy to work with!

How much time do you spend on safiredance.ning?
None-time.

What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)?
Vortex

What is the last trick you mastered?
Reverse current chest hooping.

What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn?
Chest/shoulder hooping. I thought I would never get it and then one day it just clicked! I am glad I didn't give up!

Knee reversals

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city?
Probably lots, but I don't know very many of them.

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience?

No, but people have asked me if my hoops are so kids can have something to play with when I am out and about.

What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop?
Sprained foot from a failed jump through. It happened a couple of weeks ago and my foot is still sore.

Week 1 of hoop class.

Posted on January 18, 2012 at 3:00pm 2 Comments

I'm taking a class right now and thought it might be helpful for me to blog about what we are learning and my progress. What better place to do it that on hoopcity?

I'm taking a Minis, Twins, and Advanced Hoopdance class. The first class was on Monday. The weather was -30 and I really didn't want to leave the house again after I got home, but was so glad that I did. The class started with some stretches and then a bit of a hoop jam. We were learning really basic stuff…

Hooping injuries (TMI)

Posted on June 23, 2010 at 10:41am 5 Comments

I've been working late most nights this week (well, I guess just Monday and Tuesday so far), so when I come home I drink beer and hoop in my apartment. I'm just picking up the hoop again after about a year of not hooping. I'm finally nailing some of the tricks that I couldn't do before and caused me to be frusturated with my lack of progress and stopping all hooping until now. It feels pretty good to be back in the game!

My hooping injuries are more apparent this morning though. My…
