The sound of flames rushing through the air is totally different when you're at the center of the flame. I was used to how noisy spinning fire is from watching friends play with poi or contact staffs, but that didn't prepare me for when I lit up my QuickWicks for the first time on burn(barrel) night at Myschievia. Utterly amazing being the one to control that rushing & whooshing.

Just ordered a set of six Quick Wicks from hoopdrum, the 1" wick for 3/4" ID tubing, a birthday present to myself (partially from my grandma, who gave me money to "spend as I wish").



Have I ever fire hooped before? No. But with as many fire spinners as I'm now friends with--plus my little brother, who taught himself to spin & breathe fire while he was in high school--it's one of those things that is just going to happen anyway. CM Circus! is the demo team for Creative Motion, a "circusy stuff" community here in Dallas. Lots of cool people. Poi spinners, contact juggling, staff, hooping... you name it, someone in the group does it. Or is willing to learn. Or does more than one thing. Marie hoops, flags, walks on stills, does all of the above at the same time…  

When I went outside to hoop earlier this afternoon, I felt like such a dunce, as if I'd forgotten almost everything I'd learned about hooping above & beyond the basics. Ugh. Not a happy feeling.



I'm blaming it on the weather. Which doesn't bode well for the rest of the (Texas) summer: hot, hotter, MISERABLE! I guess I'll have to find a larger indoor space, or do some late night hooping to compensate. Hooping in my bedroom doesn't let me do much off the body tricks, due to the…
