hi sue,

thanks so much for getting back to me, & so quickly!! i really do appreciate the help with this, id like to take breckens class, but dont want to waste the $ if its mostly stuff that i know already. but it sounds like it would be worth it, from what you & safire are saying. i also love safires classes & am glad that shes offering this new one, i desperately need some new tricks to learn, i think ive done most of the free youtube videos & the ones in safires classes & the ones on the dvds!

ive got safires mini class, but havent started on them yet. i can do a few mini/poi moves already, but need to go thru the class to learn more. i feel like im still so in love with a single hoop, that i want to do more with that before i seriously start minis. so maybe breckens class is the answer for now.

btw, if youre interested, heres my website. ive got a lot of the youtube tutorials all organized by catagory. i find it a good resource to have & also to share with my students. since you teach, thought id mention it to you.

thanks again for the help, thats pretty much what i needed to make my decision.

happy hooping to you too!

beth

hi susan, i hope that you dont mind that im contacting you about this, but i saw that you posted on the online classes page about taking breckens wave class. it looks like youve been hooping for a few years too, so i thought youd be a good person to ask about the class. ive taken safires blooming classes, & breaks & reversals, & ive been hooping almost 3 years & now teaching also. in your opinion is the waves class worth taking if youre a pretty advanced hooper? i dont want to take it & then realize that ive wasted money on tutorials for moves that i already know.

i tried to find more info on the class, but theres really not much posted, thats why i thought id message you.

thanks in advance for any help!!

Hey hooper! I've started a group for hoopers in the Hudson Valley. It's a good way for us to come together and get organized.

thank you. I was walking the dogs on a rainy day and step off my desk while not quite ready to step down... I think I was pulled, but it happened so fast! I'm healing quickly which is good because I had to cancel about 8 hooping gigs! UGH!!! and more are coming up. Need to heal. I'm blogging because it keeps my mind busy and caring for the other stuff I can't do when I'm working so much. take care.

hello, Sorry I've been so quiet. I was super busy and then hurt my ankle,... at least two weeks without hooping and I had to cancel about 8 hooping events... that I worked hard to get! Bummer. Now I am laying around all day. blah! Now I'm just blogging about it since I can't do it.
How are you? Oh... got my grade. passed with no problem but need to work on leg hooping. I didn't study for the test and never worked on it before. Something to practice for sure! hope you are well. leah

one more thing... Lucy. You know the fitness store? http://www.lucy.com/Store%20Locator/STORE_LOCATOR,default,pg.html#
They are now selling hoopnotica travel hoops. They ahve something called Fitness Fridays during which they hold outdoor fitness classes. it is a chance for local fitness trainers to show the public what they offer. They are very open to hooping classes and area looking for hoopers to do demos. Don't know if you have one near you but it is a great way to promo your teaching. I hope I'm not offering to much information. These are things that are working for me. Where are you teaching?

I have a bunch of local parks near me and I send out an email to my list (which you need to start to develop) and I tell them that I'm having a free hooping session and to come out and hoop with me and make new friends. They LOVE it. I teach a little or teach one new "cool" move and they feel like they have really learned something. I call local parks that offer free yoga in the park and stuff like that and I ask if I can do hooping in the park. Invite kids and adults. They put it into their newsletter to a captive audience and you don't need to do the PR for it... there are SO many ways to market yourself. And so many free ways to do it. carry a travel hoop with you and pull it out when you are waiting for something. I was waiting in a mall parking lot for my friend and I started to hoop. Lots of people wanted to talk. People just want to be around you and talk about their childhood hooping.

Hello,
I got the shirts printed up at a local biz near me, but there tons on the internet. I will need "give away" stuff soon, so I want to build a relationship with the local biz. You are doing exactly what I started doing. Check your local area for events and ask if you can bring hoops and do it for free if they can't pay. It is the BEST advertisement you can get. Word of mouth spreads like fire. It's amazing. When I hoop at local gyms (which are also corporate and won't change their schedule to include hoops for a number of reasons) I ALWAYS carry cards. Many of my clients come from that. I hoop in many areas that are open to people, and i get a new gig almost EVERY time I do. I go to very populated areas and I bring an extra hoop and give them a tease... just teach them how to waist hoop and I usually get them into class or book a party, or at the very least sell a hoop. I got invited to a local festival that way and I told them I would provide a one hour free hooping session during the festival. I bring the hoops and do a light teaching.... a teaser course... and they gave me a free booth to sell hoops, merch and educate the public about what I offer. I also get to introduce my parties to the kids who hoop. I tell the parents what I do and usually get a good return. It is amazing how quickly I get calls and how often. I would say that I'm getting about 5 requests a week. I'm booking up for the summer and some how won an award by a local magazine and just had a photo shoot. I don't even know how it happened, but the moms voted for me and I won. Word of mouth is amazing! Just be seen and people will come to you. I don't know how much time you have to devote to it, but hooping meet ups are wonderful too. Allow people to come for free and hoop and they will come back. Once they realize they can do it and how much fun it is... my classes are full of laughing and talking.... they come back and ask me to come to parties. Just try to be seen anyway you can.
