New Year, New Goals.

1. Fix and/or replace my LEDs(I probably won't share them after that, every time I do they get broken)2. Learn something new!!!I was so unsuccessful last year with learning new tricks and rhythms. I mastered 2 new tricks and hit a brick wall, I didnt even know what I wanted to learn! I am more skilled than all of the other hoopers I know (plus I feel like they are in some sort of click in which I am not a part of). I even took a class in Kansas City and got nowhere, its the type of class where…See More

No

Hooping

2009
Who is your hoop mamma or papa? (The person who introduced you to hooping)
I dont know her name, haha its a long story!
Who's hoop style do you love? i.e. Who inspires you?
I love Caroleeena's style, anytime I'm in a rut I check out her page.
What is your goal for 2012 and why is it important? (Doesn't have to be hoop related.)
I am really going to try to get both of my LEDs up and running. Also I'd love to learn some new tricks! I mastered a couple of things last year, things I never even thought of try to learn!!! But once I got them down I hit a brick wall, I have no idea what else to learn, I have no one to teach me or show me new things, even the classes here in Kansas City were not very useful, Id like to find a way to learn new things.
Homestay - Click yes if you would consider sharing accommodations with Hoop City Citizens visiting your hometown.
Yes

This is what I do when I'm not hooping haha

How old are you?
*twenty one

When did you first start hooping?
*in April 2009

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper?
*I would say beginner, slowly moving into intermediate

How often do you hoop?
*every cahnce I get but at least twice a week!

Do you have an indoor hoop space?
*not really, there was a lot of empty space in my house but the ceilings are low and my parents started putting furniture in those spaces....

Is there a hoop group where you live?
*HA!! No. But luckily I have Andi and I have Helen and her awesome friends!! Plus, I plan on making a pretty good network at the festivals this summer.

Did you start it?
*haha no

Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping?
*yes, its the only thing i've ever had that has soothed me no matter waht.

Have you posted hooping videos? How many?
*just like one or two. I'm actually pretty humble about my hooping, I like the cool tricks but I'm not one to show them off hehe my hoop is purely my dance partner.

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with?
*Andi and Helen.

Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught?
*I can teach anyone to do it around thier waist! But any other time its the regular group hooping "hey how did you do that trick?" kinda stuff.

What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping?
*literally anything (except maybe country western...) I feel like thats one of my strengths, being able to hoop to any music (i especially like techno or raggae though)

What is your favorite song right now?
* favorite song to hoop to?? At this very moment though its Imma Be by the Black Eyed Peas

Do you buy hoops or make your own?
* I have one practice hoop, it was made by someone else but i've retaped it like five times since then...and my leds, ordered online. I'd love to start making them though.

Have you lost weight since starting to hoop?
*no but i never really needed to lose weight BUT hooping seriously helped me quit smoking cigarettes!!

What size is your favorite hoop?
*haha i dunno...

Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place?
* for sure! I'm never ashamed of my dance partner!

How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today?
* other people!! I learned a couple of tricks online, but most of them are from other people

Who is your favorite hoop teacher?
* my cousin helen, she isnt like a certified teacher or anything but I learn the coolest tricks from her!

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers?
* Learn from all different kinds of hoopers!! If you cant figure a trick, you can get so many different perspectives on how to do it from different hoopers because every hooper has thier own individual hooping style, its the best way to figure out what works for you.

Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to?
*No, but Anna got a fire hoop and said i can try hers!!! We'll see, Ive wanted flames for a while but fire is not my element.

Do you own an LED hoop?
*yes I have two! A broken one and my new rainbow. I love it but the changing colors make me dizzy hehehe

What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)?
* the vortex

What is the last trick you mastered?
*i've been working on doing everything in the opposite direction, its working out ok.

Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get?
* nothing is impossible.

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city?
* just me. i swear.

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience?
* haha no I'm way to humble for that.

Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop?
* no, i actually make it a joke all the time "who knew that when i hit my twenties i'd be playing with a hula hoop!" but really, they just dont get that i do more than just move it around my waste, once they see what i've got their assumptions dissappear.

What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop?
* nothing different from the next hooper.

Have you ever hooped naked?
* no i bet its fun haha

Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one?
* nope, why spend all that money when i can just spend the weekend with helen?

I haven't hooped in a while. Its been cold outside, I have no one to hoop with and I've been dealing with a lot of crap.

In August, my roommate wanted us to move into this guys basement. "Oh he is really cool! He is really trustworthy bla bla bla" I didnt want to. I like living in my OWN place. He talked me into it. We got settled in and things started happening. Creepy pill addicts stopping by at all hours of the day and night. Crazy psychotic ex wife. People pounding on the…

Guiding a friend to hoop love

Posted on April 4, 2011 at 10:46am 0 Comments

I was at a music festival when I bought my first actual hoop. I spent that day teaching everyone at my campsite how to hula hoop around thier waste. One of those people was my cousin and best friend Helen. Not long after that weekend, Helen bought her first real hoop and our lives changed forever. For the rest of the summer and for a long time after that, we just hooped. We made hoops, we talked about hooping, we watched eachother hoop, we taught eachother tricks, commented on eachothers…
