When did you first start hooping? May '09
Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper? Intermediate. Some days a novice. Some days I think I'm pretty damn good, usually right before I do something epic-ly uncool.
How often do you hoop? Usually everyday, about 4 days a week I spend a couple hours hooping.
Do you have an indoor hoop space? Not really. I have hooped in my house in a 5ft. space. My ceiling is not appreciative of this. Nor are my sisters. I do take the hoop to the gym a couple of times a week though.
Is there a hoop group where you live? Yep.
Did you start it? Nope.
Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping? My addiction has become a daily necessity. A couple hits a day just to stay level.
Have you posted hooping videos? Yes, they aren't very well done, but it's good to put myself out there.
Do you have friends nearby to hoop with? Fo' Sho.
Do you teach hooping? I have before to children, and have taught in an impromptu manner to friends.
What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping? Dubstep, hip hop, a lot of different electronic, break beat, tribal. I hoop to anything and everything. I've done a pretty good routine to "Jizz in my pants"
What is your favorite song right now? any set by Octopod, check him on soundcloud.
Do you buy hoops or make your own? Make.
Have you lost weight since starting to hoop? Definitely. I had just come back from living in Dublin though so I had Guinness weight ready to melt away.
What size is your favorite hoop? 32in. I'm kind of into hooping with this 28in. right now, it's super fast and fun to whip around and pop the shit out of.
Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place? Definitely. I get so much joy from hooping there's nothing to be ashamed or afraid of.
How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today? Youtube.
Who is your favorite hoop teacher? Who as in ONE? There's too many. I'm going to say all those who have shared their hooping, there's a wealth of inspiration and transference of knowledge and I'm grateful to be a student of such talented and fearless hoopers.
What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers? Don't stop! Have Fun! Experiment and play so you may find your own flow.
Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to? Yup yup. I do. and I DO!
Do you own an LED hoop? Where did you get it? Nope. Want one. Need $. Then I'll get one.
How much time do you spend on hoopcity? Too much. Time that should be spent making $ so I can buy that LED hoop.
What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)? Vortex. Thought I was the shit. It was awesome. :)
What is the last trick you mastered? Front Shoulder to Shoulder pass. I'm up to probably 30% accuracy when I attempt it. Working on the 360 shoulder passes. My will be done! Looking forward to some epic hoop "pimp slaps" and rockin' face hooping.
What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn? 360 horizontal elbow passes.
Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get? 360 shoulder passes.
How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city? Hmm. Maybe 30? 40? Really don't know.
Have you performed hooping in front of an audience? Yup. And most of them survived.
Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop? No. I'd probably tell them they're too young to not be playing with one.
What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop? Busted my lip twice. Racked my nose pretty good a couple of times. COMPLETE inside bicep bruising on both arms from learning breaks with a heavy hoop. I wear my injuries with pride.
Have you ever hooped naked? Not yet.
Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one? The only "hoop event" I've been to is Burning Man. This year my goal is to make it out to Hoop Con. I'd also love to experience Hoop Path.
