Hooping Questionnaire

How old are you? 24

When did you first start hooping? August 2008. No idea how much flight time - a lot!

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper? Well, judging by the Hoop City classes, the higher end of Intermediate... I think that's as close as I can pin it down!

How often do you hoop? I hoop between 2 and 7 days a week... but time-wise, it could be anything from a few minutes to several hours, depending on how busy my week is!

Do you have an indoor hoop space? My living room (ceiling bulbs have been broken numerous times!)

Is there a hoop group where you live? Yes! Leamington Spa Hoop Club :D

Did you start it? No, it was started by the lovely Sue Wilkinson of Fancy Tapes

Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping? Erm, yes, haha.

Have you posted hooping videos? How many? Probably around 10 or 12... something like that! Check them out at http://www.youtube.com/leapintohoops

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with? Yeah :) tons of hoopers and spinners... I'm so lucky to have them!!

Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught? Yeah, I love to teach! I have no idea how many people I've taught... somewhere in the hundreds, I think?

What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping? Oh, I love all sorts... it ranges from dance and pop through to dirty electronic beats (The Glitch Mob, Imogen Heap and Bassnectar) through to metal and rock music (System of a Down, Incubus), and even chill-out and psy stuff (Thievery Corporation, Shpongle). Being a musician, I've always loved music, but hooping has really expanded my tastes... I love discovering new tracks!

What is your favorite song right now? Certified Air Raid Material by edIT

Do you buy hoops or make your own? I buy them all!

Have you lost weight since starting to hoop? I lost about a stone in the first six months I started hooping and not only has it stayed off, but my muscle to fat ratio continues to improve dramatically, so I look as if I'm still losing weight :D

What size is your favorite hoop? 38"

Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place? Absolutely!

How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today? Learning from other hoopers

Who is your favorite hoop teacher? Right now, SaFire...!

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers? Do it. Smile, breathe. Take a break. Do it again! You will get it! Don't give up...

Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to? Yeah, fire hooping is one of my favourite things to do :D

Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it? I don't have one yet, but I am fixated on the idea of a PSI body hoop for 2010 and some LED minis!

How much time do you spend on Hoop City? Not too much, generally speaking - I just stop in from time to time.

What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)? A basic hoop put-on

What is the last trick you mastered? Splitting hoops

What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn? Bringing my hoop back up from my knees... I still can't do it properly in trousers :(

Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get? I tend to ignore the ones I can't do, haha! Maybe a shoulder duck-out? I can do it with my arm up though.

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city? Not many in the town, but if you include the city, probably a fair few!

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience? Absolutely :) I love it!

Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop? Haha! They try...!

What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop? A fat lip or two?

Have you ever hooped naked? Maybe...!

Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat? Which one? Not yet, though I've been to a lot of festivals with a hoop contingent :D I'd love to do the UK Hoop Gathering and definitely Burning Man one year.
