"spinning the same direction as the hoop helps a lot...just to keep the momentum up and keep it level.  also, try to keep your arms close to your body, touch your hands to your thighs to avoid flapping them, as this will bump the hoop up."

Hoop keeps traveling up to my neck D<

I hope this hasn't been asked before, but when I chest hoop with my arms in (is this called shoulder hooping?), most of the time the hoop travels up to my neck, and I don't want it there! I've been trying for months to just keep it on my chest, but it's not working; it always goes up. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, have you found a way to keep the hoop on your chest? Thanks in advance!See More

How old are you?
22.

When did you first start hooping?
I think back in the summer of 2010.

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper?
An advanced beginner? :P

How often do you hoop?
I can go for about an hour or so. I try to hoop more regularly, but school keeps me pretty busy. I need to make more time for hooping!

Do you have an indoor hoop space?
I have the largest bedroom in my apartment and not a lot of furniture, so I use my room :)

Is there a hoop group where you live?
Not that I know of :(

Did you start it?
Nope.

Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping?

Maybe a wee bit :P

Have you posted hooping videos? How many?
Yep, I try to post semi-regularly. They can be found on my YT channel, under my name: Meg Desrochers

Do you have friends nearby to hoop with?
Nope :(

Do you teach hooping? If so, how many people have you taught?
Nope.

What kind of songs do you listen to while hooping?
I'm really bad at remembering to use music that has a really good beat. I just listen to my favourites, regardless of tempo or style.

What is your favorite song right now?
I never have just one!

Do you buy hoops or make your own?
I buy mine. I'd love to make them, but I'm having a hard time finding tubing.

Have you lost weight since starting to hoop?
No idea, I try not to check too often.

What size is your favorite hoop?
I think my first hoop was 38" I liked the size, but it was a bit heavy.

Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place?
Sort of.

How did you learn the majority of the tricks you know today?
YouTube and pain.

Who is your favorite hoop teacher?
No clue.

What advice would you give to to beginner hoopers?
Just keep swimming! Once you taste that first feeling of nailing a trick for the first time, you'll be addicted to getting that feeling again :)

Do you fire hoop? If not, do you want to?

I keep dreaming of it :) I may be able to light my poi on fire this year! A big step!

Do own an LED hoop? Where did you get it?
Not yet. but one day :)

How much time do you spend on Hoop City Hooping Community?
Not a lot, actually. :P

What was the first trick you learned (besides waist hooping)?
Going from lasso to waist :D

What is the last trick you mastered?
I used a tutorial on YT to do a weave behind my body, in a forwards and then backwards current.

What trick so far was the hardest for you to learn?
Chest hooping, by far. And cat eyes on the minis! OMG, so hard.

Which one are you finding is almost impossible to get?
Keeping the hoop on my chest is still difficult.

How many hoopers would you say live in your town/city?
I have no clue. Hopefully lots!

Have you performed hooping in front of an audience?
Nope. It would be something worth exploring once I have a bigger bag of tricks!

Has anyone told you you were too old to be playing with a hula hoop?
Nope!

What’s the worst injury you’ve acquired from the hoop?
Just bruises. Looots of bruises.

Have you ever hooped naked?
Not yet! Someday :D

Have you been to a hoop camp/retreat?
Nope :( One day.

Proud!

Posted on December 5, 2010 at 8:32pm 1 Comment

I'm so proud of myself today :) I managed to duck my head in and out of my hoop, and I didn't make any of my piercings bleed!

Also, I've gotten the hang of chest hooping/shoulder hooping (mostly). It feels really good to be able to keep it up and get the rhythm of it, though the hoop likes to travel up to my neck a lot.

I've found an indoor practicing space! There's a good sized bit of space by the elevators of my apartment building that works wonderfully. The roof is too…

Hooping > Piercings

Posted on July 5, 2010 at 6:11pm 6 Comments

I think hooping might actually make me give up on piercings! It's kinda sad, but at the same time, kind of amazing, because I love my (few) piercings so much, but I keep hitting them on my hoop, and it's getting really painful.

I must love hooping more than my body jewelry. That's kind of amazing to me, for some reason.

I also broke my hoop trying to do isolations. It was a Walmart hoop, and it had way more water in it than I thought! Got all…

Elbow hooping (and transfers!)

Posted on June 10, 2010 at 8:39pm 2 Comments

I managed to elbow hoop on both arms today! Before, I could elbow hoop a little bit on the right if I had the hoop spinning on my arm above my elbow, but today I managed to get my elbow in there from spinning on my hand. Super proud of me!

And then... I transfered! In front of me, from my right arm to my left, and back again. And then I gave it a few tries behind the back. I managed to transfer behind my back from left to right maybe once. It's a lot easier right to left. So I gave…
