Hi hoopers! I did a search through the forums for this topic, but couldn't find a thread about it; apologies if I missed a previous discussion. I've started going to local spin jams, and I've made…

This post appeared in my journal earlier because it's primarily about my personal experience, but I would really like to get feedback about this issue from others in this community so I'm posting it…

Hi, folks! I'm hoping that you can help with a dilemma I'm facing.I've been hooping for nearly four months now, and my most frequent question is no longer, "How the heck do I do that?" but, "How the…
pru*dance has not received any gifts yet
Found in a prairie coyote den at the age of two, pru*dance was dragged into civilization, howling at the moon all the way. She failed to adjust to her new surroundings until a friend, seeing her excess of energy, threw a hoop over her. pru*dance struggled to free herself from the strange circle until she realized that the hoop, and dancing with it, let her express the feelings locked in her coyote heart.
Located in Seattle, pru*dance has come to love the Pacific Northwest, but her howling soul still craves the prairie.

I've been cooped up at home for the last several days. On top of having a cold, which is a mild downer but only an inconvenience, I've been having major food allergy reactions. "Major" as in "wake myself up crying and scratching until I bleed" major. I'm covered in scaly, burning patches (even my eyelids are flaking--eeyuck), and my insides are, um, unhappy. I had to see the doctor earlier this week and had two days of blood draws for two different allergy panels. Until I get the results…

At the wonderful Seattle Tech Spinners' jam today, I had the good fortune to meet Sirin of Sirin Hoops. Not only is she an amazing hooper, but she's incredibly kind. She had a 36" polypro hoop with her, and when she found out that I'd never tried polypro before, she let me take it for a spin.
Holy whoa! Suddenly the oft-cited hoopism "Once you go polypro, you never go back" makes all kinds of sense. It was... okay, the simile that keeps coming to mind is "like buttah," but…

So over on hooping.org, Lara Eastburn put forth an exercise to help us figure out how we'd like to feel in the hoop. She said to envision your ideal hooping situation, getting as fantastic as you like, and to then pick three words to describe how the fantasy-hooping you feels.
I thought that was an excellent idea, so I tried it out. After running through several different surroundings, costumes, feelings, etc., I came up with a list of words that described the way I felt in…

Okay. So ever since I started hooping (dang, nearly six months ago now), I have sucked at most of the moves on the vertical plane, and I have had absolutely no moves on the vertical plane when holding the hoop behind my back. We are talking no vertical isolations anywhere, no passing behind the back without turning, none of the cool hold-the-hoop-in-place-and-spin moves that Brecken and Beth Lavinder rock the hell out of. As you can imagine, those absences significantly limited my flow and…
