About Me

Hey hoopers! My name is Barbara. I started hooping in the Summer of 2010 and it has changed my life!

I recently discovered this website and am just starting to get my profile together. I would love to meet up with any hoopers in the area to practice.

I recently graduated from the University of Maryland where I studied anthropology. I am currently looking for a job and living at home in Fairfield, CT.

In my free time I like to go to shows and music festivals. I'm a hugeee Phish fan as well as many other bands (way too many to list).

So feel free to add me hoopers!

Happy hooping everyone! :)

Hooping Questionare:

- How old are you?

February 4th, 1989

- When did you first start hooping?

July 2010

- Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate, or advanced hooper?

Beginner.

-How often do you hoop?

Whenever I get the chance. Ideally I like to hoop in at least 3-5 short increments throughout the day anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour, but of course sometimes life gets in the way.

- Do you have an indoor hoop space ?

Not really, hopefully once I move I can get larger space with higher ceilings.

- Is there a hoop group where you live ?

Not that I know of, but I am looking it to it.

- Would you say that you are obsessed with or addicted to hooping ?

Yesssss.

- Have you posted hooping videos ?

I'm just warming up to the idea of recording videos and posting them on the internet, so I've made a few and will definitely post more once I get a little more confident with it and I get a little better at recording and editing vids.

- Do you have friends nearby to hoop with?

Not really anymore since I moved back to CT. But I plan on reaching out to hoopers in the CT/NY area for some jam sessions

- Do you teach hooping?

Not yet but I would definitely love to in the future once I get a little better and a little more confident. I would love to teach children and work for hooping for hope in the near future.

- What kind of music do you listen to while hooping?

Phish, Soulive, Moe., DMB, Zach Deputy, Bassnectar, Jimi Hendrix, Lotus, Grateful Dead, and basically anything with a beat that suits my mood :)

- Do you buy hoops or make your own?

I make my own.

- How many hoops do you have?

Umm...25?

- Are you comfortable hooping by yourself in a public place?

I'm becoming more comfortable with it. It depends on the location too.

My Hoopiphany: A Quest for Flow

Posted on February 12, 2012 at 7:44pm 0 Comments

When I first began hooping I was content waist hooping for hours. That soon blossomed into a desire to learn as many tricks as I could, stringing them together into what I thought was flow. Fast forward a year and a half and I am learning multiple tricks a day but I still hadn’t fully grasped the concept of flow. But today it finally clicked. I put on a song and began moving with the hoop to the music. Rather than saying to myself: stir the pot into one handed vortex,…
