Getting back into hooping

I got my first hoop on Christmas of 2012. It was hand made by my cousin who is really into hooping and is amazing at poi!For a few months after that I practiced everyday for a few hours each time. I loved seeing the change in my ability and I gradually had more flow while transitioning between tricks. But after a while I got lazy and stopped hooping, which is horrible because hooping is absolutely amazing! I signed up for SaFires seedling class months ago and I can't believe I'm just starting…

Hurting hooper in NY

For the last 11 months I have been abused physically, mentally, and emotionally. Today waking up has been difficult and I'm having a hard time picking up my hoop I'm so depressed. My ex is knocking me for being a hula hooper as if there is something wrong with it and he's putting me down on his facebook account. I took care of him when his own family abandoned him and he had nobody..I stayed in a hotel room on christmas day and christmas eve because he had nowhere to go and my family…

Hooping it Up!

Finally got the hoop up to my shoulders this morning!  I think I woke up the neighbors with my hooting and hollering - it sure sent the dog under the couch in a hurry.

I can't wait to get my invite to SaFire's online class - today's supposed to be the day but the day's more than half over and I keep checking my inbox...nothing!  Oh, well, I'll keep checking.  Plenty of more hours in the day.

Can I pretty please have my synth now?

I can't believe how fast summer vacations are approaching!? I feel so under prepared! I've been (im)patiently awaiting the arrival of my Citiva Creationz LED festie hoop, and crossing my fingers that some time soon I might hear an update on my Synth I paid for over a month ago. I leave June 20th for my first festie of the season (9 hour drive baby!) and I'm biting my nails about having a shiny new LED hoop to play with before I go.

The following weekend we set out for…

The Interweb

Yesterday I finished my online courses. Now all I have to do is 2 final exams and 1 diploma exam.

Allow me to explain. I graduated from high school in June 2012, holy shit that is a whole year now o.O, anyway, and now I want to get into the department of psychology. Hopefully one day I'll have people sitting on my couch and paying me to give them therapy. My grade 12 isn't good enough for the entry requirements and that's why I had to take some additional courses…

I got five on it (also I skipped four... whoopsies)

Three days shy of my five month mark and I'm sitting on my laptop locked out of my new apartment so I figure now is as good a time as any haha. So here's my hoopurb update!

I am awesome now. Haha always room for improvement but I'm finally good enough to get compliments from random drum circle attendees that I've never met. My isolations actually look isolated finally, even the sliding ones, my chest/shoIulder hooping is sick and I'm getting better at the arm duck ins/outs. I can…

Day One

My hoop arrived from moodhoops.com yesterday and i've been so excited to try it out. My mother thinks I am insane because i spent $40 on a hula hoop, but I didn't expect her to understand it in the first place. She just likes to pick at me, so she's harmless.

So, last night at 2 in the morning, I decided to try to hoop. So far i can transfer the hoop from one arm to the other. I have noticed that it is very hard to do any type of shoulder or chest work because i am big busted…

3 year hoop anniversary

3 years ago today, I was sitting on my bed with my best friend Allea, we were bored, and had some extra money, so she said, lets go to target, it was right down the street from my house so why not?

We were at target messing around in the toy isl and I saw some hula hoops, so we got one..

Ever sense that epic day my life has changed drastically, I went from being a person, so set on ending it, being so depressed everyday, 200 pounds of A destructive human, with no feeling of a real…

Off the body lifts...beginner

I've been practicing lifting my hoop off my body into the lasso rotation, and I can't seem to get it up. I've watched countless tutorials on YouTube and none of them seem to really help me. I wish I could meet more experienced hoopers in my area, but I don't know where to look... I feel like having a more advanced teacher would be perfect, and make the process of learning tricks easier to understand. Any advise for lifts would be wonderful, as well as any tips you may have for me. Thank you,…

Bounce Festival!!!

I have one general admission pass and a car camping pass up for grabs. I purchased at full price plus service fees, so valued over $230. I am asking $150 for the ticket and $50 for the camp pass, or $180 combined. It's a sweeeet deal! Killer line up, yoga and hoop workshops, live art, camping in the Sierra Nevadas, what more could you want out of a festival? If you haven't heard of The Bounce, get yourself in the know! …

1st HoopCity Journal Entry

Hi.

I first became aware of hooping a little over a year ago. I would like to go to raves in Winnipeg where I lived, and there were often girls with LED hoops there. I thought of it as more of a performance thing, but soon came to realize people use normal hoops a lot of the time too. When I was at an outdoor music festival one day I bought a hoop for $20 and thought hopefully I would get into it.

It's a year later now and I've learned a lot :) hooping is the funnest thing…

What hooping means to me

In the Planting Seeds online class there is a video from SaFire on What Hooping Means to Me. It started me thinking, Then i found other hoopers videos of what hooping means to them. This video in particular really touched me, http://www.hoopcity.ca/video/hoop-city-contest-entry-what-3

I'm a complete newbie to hooping, can't even waist hoop for very long before the hoop drops...but hooping to me,…

Turning the corner...

Ever climb Mount Everest, or swim the ocean shore to shore or hike around the world? Have you ever taken a detour around a corner of a street under construction and felt like you rode two miles to go one block? I feel as though I have done all of those things in the two years I have been sick and recovering. On June 14th marks the two year anniversary of when I came home from the hospital and started this long recovery. My progress has been steady but slow and now I am coming to the…

First session after starting the online hoop classess

Just had a great hooping session in my basement, my first after signing up for SaFire's online hoop classes. I've come to the conclusion that i'm a side to side waist hooper and i hoop to the left. My legs feel like jello but i've got a smile on my face!

loss of motivation

I haven't been the dedicated hooper i used to be. I used to live by the hoop, not leaving my home without it. No one ever had to ask me to hoop for them because i was already in motion. I never thought it would be possible to say no to hooping until this year. I still have the same love, understanding, and worth for hooping that I used to. I still lose myself in a hoop and can kill it. but because of the abilities i know i hold, it's almost like i don't need to be working because i know what…

Promoting dreams.

When two out of three band members of a band you've been waiting months to see tells you they think you are a bad ass hula hoop dancer, it's hard not to be really happy. Yes. The impossible has happened to me a bunch of times this year. Didn't die. Woke up. Started walking. Started Hooping again. Started hoop dancing again. Got my video endorsed by Queens of the Stone Age. Meet the bass player with his other band, Mini Mansions. He wasn't just giving me compliments. I saw him type my phone…

I been hooping along, not posting updates. However, I was recently diagnosed with carpel tunnel in both hands. Which has nothing to do with hooping but everything to do with all my other creative, fiber-based endeavors.

So I've turned my crafts blog into my hooping diary.  I plan to make weekly practice posts and comments about hooping. Stop by and check out the latest post here: …
