hoop making

well, today we're all going to get together at Valentina's house and make some hoop cages for the newest show we'ere going to do, a Circus themed show. I am not sure what kind we'll end up making but I think silver and black, as of right now. It'll be exciting to learn to make hoops at the very least, thats always something i've been interested in. I'm sure I'll be super crappy at first, especially since I dont really have a knack for making things/crafty type stuff (for the most part, there is…

do'oh!

So I spilled some whiskey on my laptop's keyboard Friday night. Now the y,n,b,and r keys don't work. I still have the home computer to use, but not being able to escape to the quiet of the bedroom makes doing homework hard. I'm waiting for the keyboard shorts to spread and destroy the entire thing...or for payday to buy a USB keyboard. Won't that look funny, having a keyboard plugged into my lap top? You know what another funny thing is? It wasn't even my whiskey that I…

My Ankle, Myself

In June 2009, I sprained my ankle very badly while hooping onstage at a party. I immediately jumped up and continued hooping... and continued dancing all night long and danced and hooped the following night as well.

I had never injured myself in anyway before. I didn't know how to take care of my ankle. Truthfully, I didn't know how to do the best job caring for myself, on a deep emotional and psychic level. I'd been doing a great job on a physical level for the last few years, but…

whew its been awhile

Held a small hoop jam yesterday, went very well. Some less experienced hoopers improved their flow SO much!

I learned a new off body trick, and worked on the others i already know. Also successfully hooped on one leg, put foot in and brought hoop back up 4 times! I have been working on this trick for weeks and finally nailed it! Found I am able to hoop on my thighs/knees while chest hooping. Found it far more difficult to isolate my waist from my legs while trying to multihoop. Also been…

Forgiveness

Oh sorry lovely hoop....for swearing at you last night! I wish you would stay off my neck while I'm trying to chest hoop.

Is it just me? or does anyone else talk to their hoop?

My Birthday Weekend

I can hardly contain my excitement for this weekend, so I am going to babble about it here.

A bunch of my friends and I are going to Wisconsin Dells tomorrow (a tourist trap in Wisconsin). We are going to a rave that is being held at a resort in the area. All 250 of the rooms at the resport are booked full. There is going to be four rooms of music and the pool is going to be open all night long. I am going to get to see a bunch of people that I have not seen in ages, including a…

Where Is My Mind?

One of the best things about watching hoop videos is that they remind me of moves that I want to use, but often forget in my day to day hoop practice. I was watching one of Betherann's videos the other day, and suddenly thought "Why the eff do I not pass the hoop around my legs more!?" Then I realized I don't have the room to do it easily in the living room. I can whip my 38" hoop around my upper body, and over the head with no problem, but if the hoop goes low, I hit the…

Got my travel hoop today!

So excited about my new Hoopnotica travel hoop! (that makes a total of 3 hoops already, at only 5 months of hooping...at this rate...!)

I gave it a quick spin and it's a very different feel than my other two. Amazes me how we become so attuned to the feel of our hoops :)

Progress*

II'm absolutely in love with hooping*

I've gradually gotten the chest hoop down, getting my hands in and out, duck out with just my shoulder, isolations are getting better, and im starting to work with breaks and reversals. Behind the back spiraling is getting easier as the days go on too.

Im not by any means saying Im awesome, but there is def. progress and it makes me feel soooo good to finally be sticking to something. I love when i get a new trick I feel like a little…

sadness

My grandfather past away yesterday. It's one of those unavoidable tragedies. Grandparents die, right? I wish i'd been able to visit him before he passed, but he lives in Kansas City, and I wasn't able to make it down. I am , however, going down for the funeral, so I feel even worse that I didn't go down last weekend. I wanted to be able to say goodbye, to give him a hug. Instead I get to go wear dark colors and eat food with my family. After every loss of an amazing person I am reminded at the…

Wow it's been awhile

Hello all! I'm writing because I'm for once genuinly excited about life. I'm teaching Kindergarten, which could'nt be going more fabulously, i'm better developing my sign language skills, and i'm back in the hoop (I always seem to have a lull during the winter..). I'm getting married this June and I'm excited to be receiving my collapsible hoop in the mail fairly shortly to take on our honeymoon to Mexico! (I can't wait to share THOSE videos!!!).

Well. I just wanted to share some of my…

sad, hooping came between a friendship

i feel so lost....

So i had a big talk with a friend. She was the one that got me into hooping. Introduced me to a hoop - not the one's in ToyRUs ya know? And she taught me a couple moves. I learned quick and i became youtube fanatic about learning.

Then things started changing. I started making hoops and i love making stuff. I didn't want to buy one, it seemed cheaper to just make one, and at that, i could make a few for my friends. I sold em real cheap, and then realized…

Do I just overthink things?

I've been trying to figure out some random hand and arm flows for the past few days, and I've been struggling like crazy. For some, I can do the move on one side of my body, but lose control on the other. So I have very slowly been walking myself through each move, trying to remember exactly what I did so that the other side of my body can mirror that.

Then last night ..... I had a beer .... saw my hoops on the living room floor ...... picked one up ..... TAAADAAAA!!! All these moves…

spinning

No, I didn't win a Hoopie, but I DO want to thank very wholeheartedly anyone and everyone who nominated and voted for me. It was a really lovely thing to have happened in my first year of hooping.

I did, however, meet hooper Jessica Wagstrom AND experienced my first burn this weekend. Which was awesome.

Video forthcoming.

I am messing around with high speed sustained spinning. According to my eyes, the world is rotating rather faster and more off axis than usual…

0h, happy day!

got the shoulder trick today! yesss. you dont understand how many hits to the face & ears i took to get this damn trick. [ha, actually, you probably do] anywho, i also got the vertical vortex last night, very much to my surprise. ive been finding if i approach a trick with confidence, its easier to figure out what needs to happen. eh, atleast thats whats been helping me along so quick.. & also the inspiration i get from my fellow h00pie friends [maddddh00pl0ve,dawgs] helps me move…

Intro

How old are you?

Just turned 24.

When did you first start hooping?

Made my first hoop late August 2009 and have been hooping since!

Would you call yourself a beginner, intermediate or advanced hooper?

I like to think I'm intermediate with a lot to learn.

How often do you hoop?

I pick up the hoop almost every day. Some days I just have fun with it and spaz out. Other days, I focus on learning new tricks and technique.

Do you have an…

Introduction

Just thought I would finally introduce myself... I've already posted an entry, so perhaps I'm too late! :0) I just started hooping about a week and a half ago... if you read my post from early this morning, I hit my flow for the first time last night where I just cut lose and could... NOT... stop!

I'm a nerd... to the core. I'm a Software Developer (mostly data-driven apps) and most of the books I own are graphic novels (yes, big comic books!). I love playing xbox, but lately I've…

Hit my flow

I finally hit my flow and it was nothing short of amazing! I started about a week ago and could keep the hoop up and do a basic fish tail and the take a bow and jump through... I had my mind set on day 3 that I wanted to learn a vortex. It just wasn't happening... I hoop to the left and I would hit myself in the side of my head on the right side or catch my shoulder on the left. I was trying to do all the work for the hoop and not let the hoop do all the work for me. I was trying to force it…

Some Do Magic, And Some Do Harm

I spent tonight hooping to Fever Ray. I always have my best hoop sessions to that album. It calls to mind so many emotions, and vivid imagery that I can't help but hoop well when I listen to it. Not only is it some of the most gorgeous. dark, eerie, happy/sad music that I have heard in ages, but it also brings to mind incredible memories.

The first time I heard the album was on summer holidays. Driving to my first ever surfing lesson with Nigel. We strapped two 10 foot boards to my…
