Uhn tiss

Okay, so, I just bought a new hoop yesterday with my friend Brooke. :] I didn't think it was weighted but once I actually tried it out, I found out it had water in it. :O Hopefully her dad can fix it & make it useable. Anyways, I have a really hard time with lassoing (sp?). Everytime I do it for prolonged periods of time, I have these HUGE bumps that appear on my hands that become swollen & just hurt when touched. Brooke said I would eventually build up a resistence but they hurt really…

SO YEAH.

First of all, I am no longer Jadeitea (well, I still am, but not here on this forum). I chose a new name instead - Hooploose, because it reminds me of the movie Footloose, and because (unbelievably) nobody has used it yet, so I hereby claim my rights to this one.

Secondly: the bloody LED hoop is done. Yesterday I finished the damn thing. :D It's not the prettiest of them all, but it glows, and therefore serves its purpose. You can see the photos in my gallery.…

Christchurch Earthquake + hoop healing.

I feel so thankful to have these talents which allow me to put smiles on the faces of people who have had to move into shelters due to their homes being destroyed.

Myself and a few other circo's have come together to put on shows, and do workshops/roving with people who are currently residing in shelters throughout Christchurch and it's so amazing to see these people smile even though their homes have been destroyed and they're having to live in halls with hundreds of other people, in…

Hoop Tape Combos

One of my favourite parts of being a hoop maker is allowing others to describe their dream hoop and I get to grant their wish. I really do love it! The weird thing is, often times I'm asked about Colours X, Y and Z. I cringe, snap a photo and send it along to the client. They tell me what they would like based on this "swatch" and I begin taping. Again... I cringe. I think that these colours are going to be awful and ask how someone could have such ugly taste...

But you know what,…

Choreography!

Ok so the universe is finally pointing me in the right direction...  It has been a major goal of mine to understand the elements of dance well enough to choreograph beautiful pieces.  The "rules" are fairly universal, but there are a few tweaks for hoop/prop dance.

1) Week one-

                a) Pick out a song.

                      i) I think the audience’s attention tends to wander after 3 minutes or so....

                b) Write down any…

Where is the nice weather?

It's been really cold and snowing or raining here where I live and I can't get outside to hoop and practice.  So, frustrating when I want to get back into my hooping lifestyle.  It puts such a smile on my face and I could really use a smile.  What I find most troubling with my hooping is feeling a rhythm and being able to actually dance with my hoop.  I feel the partnership and I feel the equality we have and agreement but I can't seem to shake the whole concentration on making a move…

Knee hooping re-visited...and still frustrated.

I've tried a few different ways to knee hoop and cannot seam to grasp the concept and it's driving me nuts. I'm becoming obsessed. I'm also becoming obsessed with the kick start. I'm sure once I learn to knee hoop, the kick start will follow soon after. Bah! I'm going crazy!

Last night was sad!

So last night was a very sad night for me =(...... I went downtown with my friend Fryz because he didn't want to go alone so I went with him. Well last night  was the first time I had even taken my hoop with me to a rave. when I got there i was doing pretty good I had a lot of people watching me, right as I was about to do a trick my hoop stops working right. so now only half of my brand new hoops lights up. =(

Hoop Tantrum

I've been cooped up at home for the last several days. On top of having a cold, which is a mild downer but only an inconvenience, I've been having major food allergy reactions. "Major" as in "wake myself up crying and scratching until I bleed" major. I'm covered in scaly, burning patches (even my eyelids are flaking--eeyuck), and my insides are, um, unhappy. I had to see the doctor earlier this week and had two days of blood draws for two different allergy panels. Until I get the results…

Macgyver Style Manipulation

Ever been stranded, board and without your toys? These videos will show you how to make unconventional manipulation props and perform simple tricks with everyday household items.

For this first toy you will need only card-stock paper, scissors and tape. Note, I built one of these with construction paper, worked if a bit flimsy.

You can have manipulation with out…

Nice knowing ya

Nope, not a hairflip. I'm not going anywhere, muahahahaha.

Anyway. It's no secret with people from my past that I'm the girl with the chip on her shoulder. It's hard in the performance world. It's hard to make friends. And it's even harder to accept that not everyone is going to like or get along with you...much less even glance in your general direction.

About 6 years ago my whole world went down in flames. My then husband was sent to iraq, I lost friends, I…

Hoop-session....

It's been 4 or 5 weeks since I was hit by the BAM! MUST HULA HOOP Bug (yes, the bug deserves all caps). I don't remember why. Maybe I was surfing gaiam and was already frustrated at the last 3 times I tried this feat. I had a friend who hooped but I work 3rd shift and it's hard to meet up with people during normal hours in the winter for me. I tried for a week with the old Gaiam hoop that wobbles. I tried with with a 40 inch I got in a christmas exchange (yeah, no one wanted to steal that…

10 Tip to Nail New Moves Faster

Admit it, you’re stuck. There's at least one move you’ve been having some serious trouble with. Here are 10 ways to nail that new move.

1. Break it downEvery move in prop manipulation can be broken down into a series of simpler moves. For example, if you’re working on a trick that requires movements with both hands, try one hand at a time until the movements feel ingrained in muscle memory. Then try bringing the two halves together.

2. Watch a tutorialSince the…

New Perspective.

Life is how I make it. For once I am thinking of myself and not everyone else. I have changed my work ethics and taken my schooling to a new level. Finally I am doing well in math, its only taken me 4 years to understand it. Sheeshh, but anyways The sun is shining its a wonderful 30 degrees in Buffalo, its beautiful outside.

phish released their beginning of summer tour and I have picked 3 shows off the list. Ahh Love me some Phunky Phish. I'm still waiting on Bisco to…

Different name, same old me. Kinda.

Same old me, only a little bit happier haha :) I was Blasphemous Bettie but that sounded kinda angry and negative to me and I'm not really like that.

I made yet another group, just waiting for it to be approved. I was surprised that there wasn't a "Crafty Hoopers" group already on here, but now there will be! Will be nice to see what everyone here makes and sells. I'm a sucker for supporting the arts, especially when it comes to jewelry and bellydance…

Sprained ankle...no hoop. :(

This is the 8th time I have rolled my ankle.  I was trying a new trick that I do a cartwheel, land in the center of my hoop and pick it up and spin it in one motion.  needless to say it failed, because my ankle rolled inward and popped loudly.  Thankfully someone noticed and came to help me.  I am disappointed but I've been through this so many times before that I am kind of used to it.  I am just sad that my hoops will have to sit out for a few weeks.

A month and a half

It's been a month and a half since I started hooing and I think I may be getting it. The feeling of hooping is so much more freeing than poi. I really do wish however that their was a website like this for poi.
