Which means I get to hoop outside in the warm sunshine. IT'S ABOUT DANG TIME. I hate when you're snow hooping and you drop it in the show and then it's too cold to even grab your hoop ): Now it's just gonna be hitting the soft fronds of green green grass in the lovely town of Missoula in the heart of Montana. Just you wait fellow hoopers, this summer things are gonna get FUNKY.

I've been hooping for about a year now and feel that I have grown a lot but there was something missing...a good reverse flow. I decided to start training myself to hoop in the "oposite" direction then I normally hoop. HOLY COW I never imagined it to be this hard. I feel like I did a year ago when I first started hooping...awkward, sloppy and slightly frustrated. It's amazing to see what I take for granted now that I'm an experienced hooper. All the "small" things you really don't think…

I've found myself avoiding my hoops for the last months. I actually can't really remember the last time I was in it.
Once upon a time I lived in the the thing. I would take it with me everywhere with a few extras in case anyone wanted to learn. I would get them started and send them to my hoop mama for classes and tricks and their own hoops because that is what I wanted and that's what felt right. But soon those people who I'd helped get started were coming back with a…

Today I started my first online class for seeding series one. The drills are exactly what I've been looking for so that I could improve on the basics and progress in my skills.
I'll post videos of my progress soon. :D

I'm Lauren and I live in the Kansas City area. Unfortunately I'm north of the river and I don't get out much. Even though I don't have very many friends on this site, I really hope to find some mamas and papas that are down to hoop with me. It seems like all the hoopers are downtown. But I wanna find some closer to me! Although I love hooping alone it would be nice to find a few new people to spin with. Hope someone reads this!

My new (and first real) hoop arrived today.
Everything is tons easier now.
I loves my new hoop.
A 3/4" 38" glow in the dark. I gots it from a local hoop maker (Kandi Hoops) and I finally have a collapsible hoop now! I thought I would have more issues with on body hooping with a hoop that light, but it's not so bad. :) I love how I can swing it around so fast it makes a whirring noise. It's like hooping with a hoop made of clouds. Yeah, I quite enjoy it. I'll make a video with it sometime soon. I've had a lot of really good hooping days lately. :D

Alright, I just want to put it out there that I am a complete dumb ass. No real explanation, just plain and simple, I am stupid.
Having said that, I am receiving my first real hoop sometime this week. Super excited since it will probably make learning to hoop so much easier. Now the question remains, what was I hooping with before? Hahahhaaa, funny story really. Not really. Just stupid choices in an attempt to save money in case I didn't like doing it.
I really wanted to try…
Finally Buffalo is getting some snow, the kind that actually sticks and covers the ground with the white glitter. Well at least before cars dirty it up.
Anyways it has been almost two months since I have really had a hoop session, it stinks. Between working full time, trying to attempt at going back to school, and moving into a new apartment has really taken its toll. I have been so unbelievably stressed that it has tampered with my…

Oh man I'm so upset. I shared the video of my first performance with someone I've been corresponding with online. He laughed at it! He said oh look, a bunch of silly white people trying to do a spiritual dance. It really hurt my feelings. I do feel spiritual about learning the hoop. He said white people have no swag and then referenced the KKK. I feel such sadness in my heart that our performance inspired that reaction in someone. And he didn't even see the part where we had…
Me entertaining a crowd with my hoop during the street party!
How pumped am I to nail the behind the back elbow pass in public?! lol

I just got back. Yes! It was a success! The ruffles I had to make (four pairs) took ten hours... and I just started last night! What a scramble! Not since college have I had such a lesson in responsibility and time management. I was literally cussing and sewing right up until the performance and I missed the last rehearsal. But everything went so smooth. I wasn't even nervous - after my sewing marathon nightmare, this was the fun part! Showing my community what I love to do. They…
Amazing dances happen when I forget to move my hands “out of the way".
The actual mass of the hoop is very small. A thin ring of plastic with space in the center. Too often when I start moving my arms, I focus on getting them out, up, and over the circumference of the hoop. Once they’re out of the ring, I feel safe to dance and pose. I enact my gestures in the limited space outside the hoop’s circumference. This is basic chest hooping that's evolved through Hoopalicious’s…

So today I had a sour experience that left a bad taste in my mouth. I bought gum; it didn't help. I now cannot rinse out the taste of being disrespected by the fitness world. I was given the bitter reminder that hula-hoops, to some, are really just toys... and toys and business do not mix. Especially here in the Coal Hole. Well, here's my story;
I am an instructor of Hoop Dance Fitness. My latest attempt at getting the hoops spinning in my area has finally gained momentum and…
So this is my "polar bear" hoop vid. It was literally -10 outside, if you've ever tried to hoop in such cold weather you know how hard it is! My muscles felt so stiff. But I'm doing an outdoor performance at night soon so I wanted to acclimate myself. I think I could have made a better video with a lot more stuff in it but my camera is very limiting, it…

So small! Wish i would have paid more attention and gotten a 34 or a 36. Little bummed about that because i'm pretty sure i can't get it exchanged. But i kinda see it just as being a new challenge for sure. I got this!
