Tried Again, Staying Upbeat

Hubby and I had a big disappointment this morning which put a huge damper on our day. The place where we were purchasing our bedroom furniture was supposed to deliver this morning and they called at 10am to say oops, they oversold their stock. We had paid in full and they credited us. But we had been saving for months and when we drove around the island today (8 places) we could not found any furniture we liked nearly as much. Student Bad Max

Geesh. . . . it's been a year since I've written in this thing. . . wow. . . oh well. Life has a funny way of deciding where your focus goes. I started teaching school in there and well, hooping kinda feel by the wayside. So here I am, a year later, trying to pick up the pieces. I picked up my hoop a couple of times during the school year and by and large the students were interested and enjoyed watching as much as playing. Lonely hooper.

I just moved to the Black Hils (between Rapid City, and Hill City SD) and so far have been looked at like a crazy person when ever I hoop. I have introduced it to my sister and some friends and am trying to teach them some basic beginner tricks, but I am really feeling like a lonely hula hooper out here. Hooping away anxiety

I've been really stressed lately with work, car problems, and local issues.

Tonight my boyfriend is at his gig and since I work super early tomorrow I decided to stay home and hoop away some stress. I was actually going to stay home and get some work done for the "local issues", but that was really frustrating and depressing so I took a break to hoop and decided to work on hoop issues instead. :P I'm trying to work on the off the body stuff. I envy all the ladies on here with insane…

More practice

I hooped again today after work because the weather was relatively cool. Spent it practicing the corkscrew and am getting better at it. After several practice rounds I started practicing hooping while spinning in continuous circles, then after that I tried doing the corkscrew while spinning around in circles but couldn't get it, nothing more practice can't fix! I also quit after an hour because the mosquitoes started coming out, but I think an hour a day is pretty decent :)

Going in Circles- and I don't Mean Hoops

On my way back from Tamuning this afternoon I thought I should stop at a plumbing supply company, Guam Pacific Enterprise. I had emailed some suppliers online and one called me back and recommended GPE. The other emailed me back and forth and finally said today, "sorry not too sure about that". So off to GPE I go.

Arrggg, well I found GPE and the lady at the front desk put the brakes on me right away. When I said PVC tubing, she said "do you mean pipe?" and I said, "Okay sure great".…

Planting the Seed

So I have been looking for a place to record my journey as I start on a path with my hoop. I have only been spinning for a couple weeks. In all honesty, as a child my mother would buy me hoops because SHE loved it so much. I was not athletically inclined nor coordinated. I could not keep the hoop up for very long so my interest didn't last much longer than that. Breezy day :)

The weather today was significantly cooler, still a bit warm but the breeze was super cool so I decided to hoop outside today after getting out of work early. My sister and I both hooped and after many tries got the lasso trick accomplished since I couldn't work on it at home due to limited space, I'm pretty happy about it :) I guess it's also referred to as the corkscrew...I just have to now try the trick while spinning my body around at the same time. NERO!

So tonight I went to see Nero, Killabits, and Zed's Dead. Such a great show.
I decided to bring my glow poi knowing it will be super crowded, and left the hoop at home. And well the venue was really full, however, someone asked me to go on stage to do a glow poi show while Nero was doing his thing. :)
All in all, amazing night. Great crowd, awesome music... just wish I could stay a bit longer.

Student Happy birthday to me!

Just ordered a set of six Quick Wicks from hoopdrum, the 1" wick for 3/4" ID tubing, a birthday present to myself (partially from my grandma, who gave me money to "spend as I wish").

Have I ever fire hooped before? I hate the heat.

There isn't enough room in my house to hoop freely, (except stand in one spot) and to practice beginner stuff so I'm hoping fall comes soon, or at least hope the heat leaves early...praying like end of August. I hate the heat and I refuse to go outside to hoop because I hate sweating! Really bad because its preventing me from learning or practicing anything. Student Practice Positives and Negatives

I've gotten into the habit of practicing an hour or more each day. Most days I go to the park and dance under a big maple tree full of cicadas, some days I stay home and practice in the yard. For some reason, practice at home is never as fun or rewarding as practice elsewhere. Maybe it's the pull of domestic duty? I don't know.

An hour a day is really helping me to progress. I'm not fabulous, but passable. I'm getting there. Baby steps.

Student New cam

I have been using a web cam to video some of my practices but I don't like the way everything gets blurred when you move kinda fast. I got this digital camera that takes pretty good video so I'm going to use it when I practice today. If it turns out I might be posting my first video later. If I can figure out how lol.

Exciteddd.

So, I'm really happy with my hooping progress so far.

It seems like just yesterday I could barely hoop at the chest.

Now, I can not only hoop at the chest, but move the hoop from my waist to my chest in a few different ways.

I have only been hooping since July 10th of this year, and I'm really happy with how far I have come.

I also figured out how to do a vortex recently.

New stage name!

So for a while I've been using the pseudonym "Harlow" for a lot of things but I never really had a full alias. Last night I went to my first burlesque class and we got told to start thinking about stage names. I already knew I was going to use Harlow, as I always have, but I didn't know what to add for the last part of the name, to fill it out a bit more.
