"The things that make me different make me beautiful"

I tend to do a lot of wandering on the internet and I tend to come across some interesting things. One of those things was a site that sold glow sticks, led items, and other party items. I had already made myself a glow stick hoop at the time and was enjoying it on occasion. This site had led necklaces that I thought might work to string inside a hoop to become an inexpensive led hoop. I asked about using them here and through the answers I decided that I would try it and write a blog on my…

Its true, I am so inspired and humbly proud to be here. Its an honor to be a part of this movement tribe. Don't be surprised if I talk to every hooper I run into....I just feel we are all connected. Even when hooping seems all about the self. Then the sharing kicks in and boom! everybody's got a story of what hooping has done for their lives and happiness and it shows and spreads till who knows what far reaches of this spaceship earth. The love man, the love...

I started hooping ...when I made my first hoop and joined this online community, around the same time I began the journey of my 4th pregnancy. Well I didn't get as far with my hooping as I had hoped, mostly due to a loose ligament in my SI joint and a busy summer with three kids...
I am happy to announce that baby was born, a little boy Namkha "Rhythm" Bliss. He was born about a month ago. I gave myself a few weeks to rest and now I am picking up the hoop again. ( I just have to keep him…

Work is awful. Things are going so badly I don't even have the words. I'm searching for something new. After spending the last three weeks sick and clenching my jaw hard so hard that my face constantly aches I've decided its just not worth it anymore.
The good news is, the worse work is, the better my hooping gets. It is the only thing that lets me clear my mind and not think of the office for more than 5 minutes at a time. Tonight I got out the groove hoop that Nigel doctored up the…

So last night I decided to research the busking scene in my soon to be new home Atlanta, GA. And the more I read the more excited I got about busing and sharing hoopdance joy. Creating little sequences to wow audiences who haven't seen hoop before and then adding comedy as my skills and confidence as a busker in crease. And last night, all I could dream about was hooping and busking. It was magical.
Hooping is magical. <3 <3
I hope you are all well and are dreaming…

So since getting my hoop on October 9th, I've fallen in love with hooping. I'm taking a hooping class on Saturdays with a local hooper, and from the second I realized that it was downright easy to pick the hoop up off of my waist, spin it around in the air, and then put it back on my body with the hoop still spinning
I pretty much figured I was the coolest person in the world.
I love that about hooping so far. Once you learn a trick, you've suddenly become totally awesome,…

I've never hoopdanced before but when I saw how awesome and fun it looked I knew I wanted to try it out. So here I am! I'm starting to get used to the feel of my hoop and getting some flow down but the tricks are kind of hard. That can't get me down though, parctice makes perfect they always say right? lol I will be honest and admit I'm nowhere near the best or even good, but maybe I could become pretty good. Help would not be ignored if it is given so if anyone has any advice go ahead and lay…

Looking back I have to say this last years of my life have been hooptastic,
the hoop has helped me through thick and thin; it's been my fortress of joy.
With it I've learned to accept my body, to clear my mind, to FEEL music at another level...
My hoop was my companion traveling around, it's my friend and my aid
soon to be 2 years and still can' get enough; always hungry for more :)

I posted a forum entry asking for help on the back lift up, and am glad to say that I finally got it! I can do it standing still AND turning now. It just finally "clicked". And, I'm getting a little better at chest hooping in my natural direction, but the other way---FORGET IT! I look like a fish out of water. But, I'm happy making progress in one direction, so no complaints!
I'm learning that even if I feel like I'm never going to get the hang of something, that I eventually do with…

Ohmigosh, how can I count the many ways I love the internet??!! I cannot BELIEVE there is a site strictly dedicated to people interested in hooping.
My really good friend Roger, and I, just started this goal-exchange thing where we both wrote down our immediate and long-term goals and e-mailed them to each other. I definitely listed creating a hula-hooping routine by March of 2010 as my top goal. Soooo to find this web-site is unreal!!
Okay, so this is Day…

I'm so excited the hoop group I created has four new members. I can't wait for our group to grow and prosper.

I recently bought Christabella Zamour's book "Hooping - A Fitness Revolution" because I figure the more I know about hooping and the different perspectives I see about how different people think of hooping the better.
It really made me realize how much I have become use to the terminology we use here on Hoop City and that there are so many other terms people use for the same moves.
For example, in the book the warrior jump through is called "dolphin" and vertical hand…

I've been resting the gimp leg; no ballet, little hooping, no running. More meat than I care to be eating, for the protein.
It all kinda sucks.
And I'd been losing my hoop enthusiasm before then. Why? I love it, still. My best friend is cleared to hoop now and she's gone after it like a tiger. But I got annoyed with it. I feel like I have already stagnated. And I CANNOT manage angle hooping and barrel rolls. I feel constrained with the things I already know how to do, and…

I am poised, I am calm
My body is no burden, it is light as air
Strength and courage fill my body cells
At the center of life's storms, I stand serene
Energy and joy flood my body cells
What in this world can hold me?
I am free, I am free
I sit serene, centered in wisdom and peace
Come join me friends, and share my joy
Left and Right, and all around me
life's harmony is mine
I am safe, I am sound, all life's harmony comes
to me, it…

so friday night there was a free party at genesee valley park! the same place we did whirly wednesday all summer! the big pavillion there is a perfect place for that kind of thing. the pavillion is huge and there's nothing around there, as in nonresidential nearby. just more park and river. there's never been an issue with the volume of the drum circle, and not even for a little electronic music shindig either now! we had looked into having a free day party there back in may, and weekends were…

do you want/need right now?
do you want/need that specifically?
- How will it make you feel once to attained that particular thing/person/experience?
- What do you think needs to happen right now; or what do you think is delaying that from coming true?
Taking a time-out to ponder these type questions can often define &/or redefine your short & long term goals. Even better, they bring to your awareness any short/long term goals…

You know what's funny... I've always been fond of documenting, via journals, photography, video... but I never thought to record myself while hooping. I got to watch Safire's "Love the Process" video, including other hoop city members, & I was left "spin-spired."
My "documenting" fascination started with "writing." I used to draw "crayon" stories; & if you were to see the box of journals and sketch books I've kept (middle thru high school)... needless to say I'm a…
