Hooping with Erb's palsy, and taking different methods to learn some new moves!
So, it's been almost a full year of hooping for myself and let me just say that it's one of the best feelings in the world. But, my process is a bit off, you see, I have erbs palsy. My right arm is injured from birth, and right before I restarted healing in my circle i was pulled out of school for a bit to receive medical treatment for some intense muscle spasms caused from the nervous endings that are pulled. (it's actually not too bad anymore, as long as I keep spinning) Maybe I should…

It's been awhile since I've written, but I'm still obsessed, don't worry. Some interesting things have happened in my hoop world, most notably, my landlord caught me doing it.... and asked me to make her a hoop and give her a lesson! And I get $50 off my rent for this. Pretty awesome. I made her a big huge beginners hoop, black and white. No mirror tape for landlord. :D
One reason I haven't been updating my journal is because I want to make a new video. I spent a lot of time…

For many, MANY months I've been feeling so stagnant with my hooping. Every time I've picked up a hoop it's been the same on & off body moves, all without any real meaning, emotion or true "dance" behind it. It's left me feeling annoyed, limited and bored. I've had little bursts of inspiration that push me to hoop, but I haven't made or felt any real progress since my early days of hooping.
I've been hopeful though knowing that because I feel so passionately about it, unlike…

Soo I finally made an account, excited to see so many people that all have common interests as myself!
I've been bouncing around the site a little, exploring the unknown, nice atmosphere. (:
Great bunch of talent and energy around. &A las I must retire to my quarters lol.
(I am sure to have a case of hooping on the brain tommorow as a result.)
Goodnight my journal*

Shimmying from waist to chest no hands.
I finally figured out the movements. ^.^ I also figured out how to bump the hoop up from my knees. I can't get it to shimmy from there yet, but after practicing getting it from my waist to my chest I was really really tired.
I still want to practice but I'm just dripping in sweat and my knees are all bruised up. I'll go back out before bed or something.
Hope everyone else has as great a day as I am!

My Hoop Journey - Hoop Connections Scholarship Entry

I have been hooping for about 10 months. When my sister was diagnosed with diabetes the whole family made an effort to be more active together. My mom, sisters and I started some Nia classes and my favorite part was their philosophy of "joy of movement". I wanted to find another physical activity that embodied that philosophy, and that we could do with any…

Leg hooping.
I can finally keep it going. However, I can only drop it from my waist and keep it going maybe half of the time so I guess that's what I'm working on tomorrow.
I'm so in love.
Every trick is like a new tool to express myself. Another way to move, another way to feel. It's pretty amazing.
I didn't think I'd ever enjoy a physical activity. My feel like I'm advancing fast. It's cool because I can get antsy if I don't make progress. So it's nice…

I learned a bunch of tricks today!
I got the shimmy down, arm duck in/arm things, head duck outs and the shoulder duck out(I think that's what it's called.)
Still haven't gotten leg hooping yet. Tomorrow I just want to practice what I've learned to far until I can do it with my eyes closed.

I took it upon myself to research the History of my beloved Hula Hoop. I created a timeline with the best of the information I found. If you're also a hooper, you may find it also equally interesting, so Enjoy!
-Amy Blaze
The hula hoop is an ancient invention - no modern company and no single inventor can claim that they invented the first hula hoop. Hula hooping has been a type of exercise and play since 500 BCE to the 21st century.

Hooping Progress [1 month]
Well it's about 1 month into my hooping experience and I can definitely see the improvement from my first video! I'm much more comfortable with my left hand (although not PERFECTLY comfortable xD) and I drop them a whole hell of a lot less. My cats are thankful for this. This weekend I started practicing isolations, the toss with my right hand, and slowing everything down. I realized from watching my previous videos that I was spinning way too fast! I'm also beginning to work on…
