December 2nd

I am a new hooper! My friend and I started hooping a little over two months ago. She had learned to do the escalator and had showed me; I was hooked instantly! It took her I swear an hour to even teach me where to put my leg inside the hoop. I felt like a derpy dingus!! But I knew I had to learn more and something inside me was so fascinated with the hoop.

She came over and brought two walmart hoops. We sat and watched at least 10 different videos and just got…

Third Day of Hooping

So I have been really practicing the vortext and trying to become fluid. Im also try to hoop the opposite way. It's really hard, but practice makes perfect. Im also perfect the sliding which I have kind of gotten the hang of. Im a little worried about how hard Im working my body, I still can't believe my right hand is swollen. But it hurts a lot less. I have also tried dancing with the hoop, I suck but Hey its the third Day, so what can I say.

Aspiring Hooper

Hello everyone! I'm Bekah Hope. I am 25 years old and 5'2".

I decided to take up hooping this summer after I attended Wakarusa in AR, for the first time. I am amazed by how graceful hooping can be, as well as how fun it is! I love fitness activities and hooping is my new fitness (as well as artistic) passion. I have a homemade 100 PSI 38" HDPE Practice hoop. I also just made a 100 PSI 34" hoop that breaks into 8, 13" pieces and packs easily into a backpack.

So far, I…

I've been slacking a little bit lately. On hooping and on keeping up on my journal.

Don't get me wrong I've still been doing my hoop thang just not as long lately. I hate the changing of the seasons. Especially into hotter weather. I really struggle with the sun and heat. It's almost like I get reverse seasonal depression.

Most people get depressed in the winter, I get depressed in the summer.

Any advise out there on how to motivate myself?

I need Inspiration!

I just moved to Vegas a little less than a month ago, and now I am away from my flow buddies. They use to give me great ideas and spend hours just hooping with me. Now that I don't have them anymore I'm finding myself with nothing new to try. I feel like I'm inspired but when I pick up my hoop nowadays I often don't know what to do with myself.

I kept my word for once.

I bought Safire's online classes and 3 new hoops last month and officially logged my first day of practice today. I got off my ass and practiced. Can I count that as a victory?

Big butts and Fat bottom girls

EGADS where are my manners! I haven't been online for a while and I need to provide an update! Holidays and a coffee detox that has left me as one grumpy, sleepy coffee addict going through withdraw have caused me to slack a bit on learning to hula hoop in the opposite directions. But even that could not stop me from making an effort, albeit minimal effort at times, to learn this trick.

All I have to say is mission accomplished! I can now hoop in my natural direction and…

Beginnings and Complications

So I'm relatively new at both hooping and this online journaling thing, so bear with me!

I found out about hooping on YouTube. Or maybe actually Facebook. I can't remember which hooper was in the video that one of my friends shared, but she was insanely talented and graceful and I remember wishing that I could do half the things that she was doing. I started watching the suggested videos of other hoopers and after a couple of hours was pretty much hooked and decided that I needed to…

The magic word.

One of my clerks at work called me over to her desk and quietly asked me if I have been losing weight. I told her yup! Thanks for noticing! Naturally she follows up with what I have been doing. I practically shout it out that I have been hula hooping.

She laughs. "Seriously?"

Hooping is an amazing thing <3

I've always loved hula hooping as a kid, and I never thought I would hula hoop like this later in life. I realized that I've always loved dancing but never took classes or anything so as I started teaching myself the ways of hula hooping I've become so happy that I've found a new hobby :) the best part is just getting high and listening to old, rad music that you can jam out to with your hoop. Can't wait till it gets warmer so I can hoop outside!

I don't keep my word.

AKA I'm lazy, I have low self-esteem, and will make ANY and ALL excuses to explain why I haven't kept my word. Now to the point:

I have been trying to hoop since 2012. But I never stick with it. I have 3 excuses for that:

  1. A lack of money for lessons.
  2. General lack of coordination
  3. Huge tits.

So finally I decided that I love hooping too much to give up and there is a teacher willing to give private lessons. But every time I schedule one, I…

January 1 & 2 //// 2015

Oh hey again!

Gonna talk about my first two 30 minute sessions of hooping for the 30/30 hoop challenge.

I hooped New Year's night in my living room and down in my laundry room. I was not in the greatest of mindsets because of several factors. Most notably I have been very emotional lately. Speaking of hooping; it's 9:30 in the morning and I've been lying in bed awake for 6 or so hours. So much on my mind. Can't get comfortable. Too hot, too cold. Kill the boredom with youtube videos of all these awesome hoopers, so now I have the itch to hoop.

Day 6 - 100 Day Hooping Challenge

I've been pretty inactive with hooping lately (try the past year or so), and I'd failed at maintaining any other form of regular exercise. Nothing is as fun as hooping and the poi I've been slowly learning!

My first hoop was a ground score. I was walking to a friends house with my husband and on the walk we found this cheap yellow hoop that was just laying in the grass. My husband was the one who saw it and i grabbed it and kept it. I actually took it with my to my second…

July marks 7!

So, I've hooping for 7 months now and I know I've come along way. I can do so much now that I never even imagined I could do when I first picked up my new weighted hoop mamas hoop fresh from the delivery truck. I was so excited! Just recently on my visit back home in PA I made a new hoop at my friends, it's about 32 inches. I've achieved so many more tricks since I've been using the 32 inch compared to my 42 and 40 inch hoops. They're just so big. But, I have to pretty much relearn how to do…

Love Hoop Heal: A Global Healing Initiative

Hello Hoopers,

My name is Amanda Emsland and I have been on a personal healing journey for over 4 years which helped me create a philosophy for life and business/non-profit called I Am Love In Action, Healing Ourselves Heals The World!

Recently this philosophy lead me to Rwanda where I hosted a number of projects, one of which was called Love Hoop Rwanda. This is a call to Hoopers around the world to take your skills to the streets, the mountains, the places others are afraid…

Hoop Sick

I haven't hooped in over a year now! I am watching old videos and seeing how much I had progressed with all the classes and practice, and I am really missing it being a part of my life. I have been so busy with graduate school and adjusting to a new home that I put my hoop down for a bit. I never meant for it to go this long without picking it back up. Something has to change!

Hoop Dream is Too Real

I've unlocked secret hidden powers with hula hooping. Queens of the Stone Age is such a real possibility for me to dance to live on stage, but I don't want to dance for them anymore.

I've finally got why I was so angry with the online hoop community. I didn't understand why most couldn't feel the music or dance more than they discuss dancing. We as a community live in disharmony. Spending more time indoors than outdoors effects the soul. Spending more…

Hoop therapy

It is amazing to me that I have been hooping for nearly two years. I often remember how I struggled with basic waist hooping in the beginning. I would watch hooping tutorials on YouTube and be absolutely amazed at what some people can do with a hoop. It’s almost magical. The simple beauty that one person and one hoop can make astounds me, still.

I have come a long way down my personal hoop path since the day I bought my first hoop from Wal-Mart in the children's toy section.…

life update

. Its been a while.

Lets see. I got married June 21st 2012.

I gave birth to our first child. A daughter, December 27th 2013.

So yeah. I'm a stay at home mom now. I'm trying to keep hooping. I'm also trying to keep up with crossfit. My brother lives with us and he is now a certified instructor. Its been hard for me to make it to the box . I don't like leaving my daughter and the car arrangements are less than stellar. So we're working pretty hard on building a home gym. But shits…

Day... 6?

I put a few layers of electrical tape on my cruddy hoop and it made all the difference! Then my hoop bent... So I can't use it very well.
Anyways, my upward and downward vortex has gotten much, much smoother! :)

So this is my third day practicing hooping. I am using a hoop from the grocery store so it is feeling impossible to learn anything. Since I am waiting to start this new job it will probably 3 weeks before I get a proper hoop.

Doubles hooping progress~*

atomic evoke twins

I never dreamed I would be able to do any of these moves, much less get a reaction from a crowd of people. I'm so glad I picked up the second hoop! I'm currently practicing more on body double hoop moves and am happy to see the results are starting to show.

One Month Hooping

Here's my 1 Month Hooping video.

Note: I'm doing these videos for the sole purpose of recording my progress. I don't have a mirror to practice in front of, so I just record myself and watch the video afterwards. It's very helpful because I can watch it whenever I want and every time I watch, I find new things to work on. I'm not…

Bali or Bust!

I've been hired to be the offical blogger for week three of Sacred Circularties in Bali! When I got the invitation, my jaw hit the floor. I've been wanting to go to this event for the past three years but just haven't had the money. I put my call out to the universe and it was answered with this position. I'm so excited to be chosen as one of the few lucky hoopers to represent this event online and tell the outside world about it!

My admission is covered, which is amazing. But travel…

Becoming a teacher

As I've been hooping for some time now, I decided that a way to further push myself would be to take some teacher training. I did this through Brass Vixens, a Toronto based fitness organization that offers pole, hoop, and aerial fitness instructor programs. I'm still part way through my training, and I can't wait to be finished. I love hooping! It has changed my life by giving me a fun way to relax and get in tune with my body. I love teaching people new things! I've even turned a few of my…

How I got 76 students in 2 days without using Facebook, advertising, or deception.

Our house is in shambles getting ready to sell (or rent it out, we're not sure yet) and I'm still battling laziness/jet lag from our recent Hawaii trip, so this blog post is 3 months late.

Yup, I've got a list of questions from fans and friends and "How did you sell your courses so quickly" has been in the back burner since December. I've been traveling, what can I say.

This blog post will show you how I got 76 students in 2 days without using Facebook,…

My first day in the community.

So I don't really know how this works, but I just want to say that I'm dying to hoop outside and it's too cold. Plus I'm extremely excited because I'm expecting my first two polypro hoops tomorrow! Yay! Spring weather, come back so I can play with my new hoops!

Daydreaming about circles

It is safe to say that I am madly in love with hooping.  I love the lightness my spirit feels after a good hoop session.  As each day passes I can feel my muscles aching with growth and it is so uplifting!  I feel as if other things in my life are aligning themselves because I have let go of so much stress through my practice that everything just seems easier than before.  It is amazing that something as small as a hoop can facilitate this kind of change in my life.  I am only on day 5 and I…

Hoop Journey

I've been hooping for about 8 months off and on now and I still feel like a beginner. There is so much I still want to be able to achieve as far as flow, creativity, and dance goes.

Watching all the amazing hoopers out there that flow and move with grace, are able to dance with their hoop like it's a partner,…

Evolution of flow; taking on the 100-day Hoop Challenge

Hello Beautiful Hoopers!! This is my first entry and I am so excited to be a part of such a vibrant online community.  A little about myself, I am 25 years old and live in Oregon.  I work as a Nanny and I have a deep passion for Early Childhood Education.  I love to experience new things either in my own backyard or, when I am lucky enough, a new and exciting place aboard.  I like to dabble in learning other languages; French, Spanish, Thai, and of course 'dirty' words in all the languages…

Achievement unlocked: One year hooping complete!

Hey all! Wow--I have really been neglecting my poor little hooping blog, haven't I? The past few months have been all work (schoolwork and job applications, unfortunately) and less play, so I haven't had a lot of time to make a really detailed post. (Come to think of it, I have a final project due on Friday, so I should probably be working on that now... Buuut, this is way more fun. :) )

So, as the title suggests, I've finally hit my one-year hooping mark! YAYYY!!! :D :D :D…

20 Days

Nothing was more exciting then when I finally learned how to chest hoop about 6 days ago. I seriously don't think I've felt that awesome in a long time. I've been hooping for 20 days (with the exception of about 3 days b/c I strained my shoulder doing isolations), and it has brought me so much joy. I literally think about hooping all day long when I'm at work... so I am a little bit obsessed. Being a beginner hooper can be a little overwhelming though.. I feel I have soooo much to learn and…

Snow day!

Feb 5, 2014

I am going to take advantage of this day to work on my leg hooping. As well as being fluid with my motions. As well as connecting my motions to make it more dance-like. I am not sure if I have made the connection with my hoop where I can match its motions. Today I'm also going to try to hoop with music, and not stop when I mess up. Which will be often! haha

Any suggestions to a good beginning hoop song to help me find my flow??

I am determined,…

How to Find Grace, Flow, and Fluidity

“How do I find flow?”

This is such a common question that pops up in the world of hooping.  First, let’s talk about flow; before we can find it, we should know what it is.  Some hoopers believe flow and fluidity are synonymous, while other hoopers believe there are distinguishable differences between flow and fluidity.  Often, flow is defined as a state of mind—flow means letting go. When one is in the flow, it’s almost as if the hoop is an extension of one’s self—the hoop and…

How to Start a Local Hoop Jam

How to Start a Local Hoop Jam

Back in 2010, when I first started hooping, I struggled to find other hoopers in my area (especially since I live in a smaller, rural town).  Since I didn’t really know anyone who already hooped, I decided to get people into hooping!  Since 2010, I’ve aided in fostering a local hoop community in my area.  It all began by starting up a local hoop jam.

So, what is a “hoop jam”?

A hoop jam serves as an…

Day 4 and NO LUCK

I've been trying like crazy to keep my hoop from hitting the floor. I'm on Day 4 and that's all that's happening. Six, maybe eight, rotations, and it's on the ground. I have tried watching a ton of YouTube tutorials for beginners (GemGen 101 is my favorite)... but I've tried watching all that I can find for beginners. I also have the Waist Hooping for beginners video by Hoopnotica. I am 5'2" and using a 35in. hoop that's 3/4 and 100psi. Standing the hoop up, it comes right to my belly…

I'm doing what??

Here I am, just turned 45 years old, been a widow for 4 months, and I've decided to attempt hooping. I received my first hoop I ordered over the weekend and for 2 days I've only been able to get the hoop to stay up for 6 to 8 rotations. I feel a little stupid and awkward.
