I am a new hooper! My friend and I started hooping a little over two months ago. She had learned to do the escalator and had showed me; I was hooked instantly! It took her I swear an hour to even teach me where to put my leg inside the hoop. I felt like a derpy dingus!! But I knew I had to learn more and something inside me was so fascinated with the hoop.
She came over and brought two walmart hoops. We sat and watched at least 10 different videos and just got…

Hello everyone! I'm Bekah Hope. I am 25 years old and 5'2".
I decided to take up hooping this summer after I attended Wakarusa in AR, for the first time. I am amazed by how graceful hooping can be, as well as how fun it is! I love fitness activities and hooping is my new fitness (as well as artistic) passion. I have a homemade 100 PSI 38" HDPE Practice hoop. I also just made a 100 PSI 34" hoop that breaks into 8, 13" pieces and packs easily into a backpack.
So far, I…

I've been slacking a little bit lately. On hooping and on keeping up on my journal.
Don't get me wrong I've still been doing my hoop thang just not as long lately. I hate the changing of the seasons. Especially into hotter weather. I really struggle with the sun and heat. It's almost like I get reverse seasonal depression.
Most people get depressed in the winter, I get depressed in the summer.
Any advise out there on how to motivate myself?

I just moved to Vegas a little less than a month ago, and now I am away from my flow buddies. They use to give me great ideas and spend hours just hooping with me. Now that I don't have them anymore I'm finding myself with nothing new to try. I feel like I'm inspired but when I pick up my hoop nowadays I often don't know what to do with myself.

EGADS where are my manners! I haven't been online for a while and I need to provide an update! Holidays and a coffee detox that has left me as one grumpy, sleepy coffee addict going through withdraw have caused me to slack a bit on learning to hula hoop in the opposite directions. But even that could not stop me from making an effort, albeit minimal effort at times, to learn this trick.
All I have to say is mission accomplished! I can now hoop in my natural direction and…

So I'm relatively new at both hooping and this online journaling thing, so bear with me!
I found out about hooping on YouTube. Or maybe actually Facebook. I can't remember which hooper was in the video that one of my friends shared, but she was insanely talented and graceful and I remember wishing that I could do half the things that she was doing. I started watching the suggested videos of other hoopers and after a couple of hours was pretty much hooked and decided that I needed to…

One of my clerks at work called me over to her desk and quietly asked me if I have been losing weight. I told her yup! Thanks for noticing! Naturally she follows up with what I have been doing. I practically shout it out that I have been hula hooping.

I've always loved hula hooping as a kid, and I never thought I would hula hoop like this later in life. I realized that I've always loved dancing but never took classes or anything so as I started teaching myself the ways of hula hooping I've become so happy that I've found a new hobby :) the best part is just getting high and listening to old, rad music that you can jam out to with your hoop. Can't wait till it gets warmer so I can hoop outside!

Hello to anyone that reads!
Well i need somewhere to talk hooping as my boyfriend is going nuts!
Ive just been hooping for a little while, but find it so good at relaxing me, or making me feel awake in the mornings. I finds i want to take hoops with me everywhere!
Very excited to be going to a festival in europe next week for 8 days. I hope to meet other hoopers :)
the past 2 months I have been losing weight, gaining confidence, but losing it as quickly as I obtain it! I've always been interested in hooping, but my lack of self confidence I think is what rains on my parade. I'm pretty ignorant to what is the right hoop for what I need. originally I thought it would be wonderful for weight loss, but now that I'm 10 pounds down, and only 8 to go, I really want to do this right. i have a weighted hoop which i was using, but then i saw that is purely for…

I haven't hooped in over a year now! I am watching old videos and seeing how much I had progressed with all the classes and practice, and I am really missing it being a part of my life. I have been so busy with graduate school and adjusting to a new home that I put my hoop down for a bit. I never meant for it to go this long without picking it back up. Something has to change!

Hello Beautiful Hoopers!! This is my first entry and I am so excited to be a part of such a vibrant online community. A little about myself, I am 25 years old and live in Oregon. I work as a Nanny and I have a deep passion for Early Childhood Education. I love to experience new things either in my own backyard or, when I am lucky enough, a new and exciting place aboard. I like to dabble in learning other languages; French, Spanish, Thai, and of course 'dirty' words in all the languages…
Hey all! Wow--I have really been neglecting my poor little hooping blog, haven't I? The past few months have been all work (schoolwork and job applications, unfortunately) and less play, so I haven't had a lot of time to make a really detailed post. (Come to think of it, I have a final project due on Friday, so I should probably be working on that now... Buuut, this is way more fun. :) )
So, as the title suggests, I've finally hit my one-year hooping mark! YAYYY!!! :D :D :D…

Nothing was more exciting then when I finally learned how to chest hoop about 6 days ago. I seriously don't think I've felt that awesome in a long time. I've been hooping for 20 days (with the exception of about 3 days b/c I strained my shoulder doing isolations), and it has brought me so much joy. I literally think about hooping all day long when I'm at work... so I am a little bit obsessed. Being a beginner hooper can be a little overwhelming though.. I feel I have soooo much to learn and…

I am going to take advantage of this day to work on my leg hooping. As well as being fluid with my motions. As well as connecting my motions to make it more dance-like. I am not sure if I have made the connection with my hoop where I can match its motions. Today I'm also going to try to hoop with music, and not stop when I mess up. Which will be often! haha
Any suggestions to a good beginning hoop song to help me find my flow??
I am determined,…

“How do I find flow?”
This is such a common question that pops up in the world of hooping. First, let’s talk about flow; before we can find it, we should know what it is. Some hoopers believe flow and fluidity are synonymous, while other hoopers believe there are distinguishable differences between flow and fluidity. Often, flow is defined as a state of mind—flow means letting go. When one is in the flow, it’s almost as if the hoop is an extension of one’s self—the hoop and…

How to Start a Local Hoop Jam
Back in 2010, when I first started hooping, I struggled to find other hoopers in my area (especially since I live in a smaller, rural town). Since I didn’t really know anyone who already hooped, I decided to get people into hooping! Since 2010, I’ve aided in fostering a local hoop community in my area. It all began by starting up a local hoop jam.
So, what is a “hoop jam”?
A hoop jam serves as an…

What Does Hooping Mean to You: Types of Hula Hooping
“So, tell me about yourself. What do you like to do for fun?”
“Well, I like to hula hoop.”
“Hula hoop?” *puzzled look on face*
“Yes, hula hoop”
As I repeat my answer a…
I've been trying like crazy to keep my hoop from hitting the floor. I'm on Day 4 and that's all that's happening. Six, maybe eight, rotations, and it's on the ground. I have tried watching a ton of YouTube tutorials for beginners (GemGen 101 is my favorite)... but I've tried watching all that I can find for beginners. I also have the Waist Hooping for beginners video by Hoopnotica. I am 5'2" and using a 35in. hoop that's 3/4 and 100psi. Standing the hoop up, it comes right to my belly…
Here I am, just turned 45 years old, been a widow for 4 months, and I've decided to attempt hooping. I received my first hoop I ordered over the weekend and for 2 days I've only been able to get the hoop to stay up for 6 to 8 rotations. I feel a little stupid and awkward.
