For the last 11 months I have been abused physically, mentally, and emotionally. Today waking up has been difficult and I'm having a hard time picking up my hoop I'm so depressed. My ex is knocking me for being a hula hooper as if there is something wrong with it and he's putting me down on his facebook account. I took care of him when his own family abandoned him and he had nobody..I stayed in a hotel room on christmas day and christmas eve because he had nowhere to go and my family…

Hooping it Up!
Finally got the hoop up to my shoulders this morning! I think I woke up the neighbors with my hooting and hollering - it sure sent the dog under the couch in a hurry.
I can't wait to get my invite to SaFire's online class - today's supposed to be the day but the day's more than half over and I keep checking my inbox...nothing! Oh, well, I'll keep checking. Plenty of more hours in the day.

Can I pretty please have my synth now?
I can't believe how fast summer vacations are approaching!? I feel so under prepared! I've been (im)patiently awaiting the arrival of my Citiva Creationz LED festie hoop, and crossing my fingers that some time soon I might hear an update on my Synth I paid for over a month ago. I leave June 20th for my first festie of the season (9 hour drive baby!) and I'm biting my nails about having a shiny new LED hoop to play with before I go.

The Interweb
Yesterday I finished my online courses. Now all I have to do is 2 final exams and 1 diploma exam.
Allow me to explain. I graduated from high school in June 2012, holy shit that is a whole year now o.O, anyway, and now I want to get into the department of psychology. Hopefully one day I'll have people sitting on my couch and paying me to give them therapy. My grade 12 isn't good enough for the entry requirements and that's why I had to take some additional courses…

I got five on it (also I skipped four... whoopsies)
Three days shy of my five month mark and I'm sitting on my laptop locked out of my new apartment so I figure now is as good a time as any haha. So here's my hoopurb update!
I am awesome now. Haha always room for improvement but I'm finally good enough to get compliments from random drum circle attendees that I've never met. My isolations actually look isolated finally, even the sliding ones, my chest/shoIulder hooping is sick and I'm getting better at the arm duck ins/outs. I can…

Day One
My hoop arrived from moodhoops.com yesterday and i've been so excited to try it out. My mother thinks I am insane because i spent $40 on a hula hoop, but I didn't expect her to understand it in the first place. She just likes to pick at me, so she's harmless.
So, last night at 2 in the morning, I decided to try to hoop. So far i can transfer the hoop from one arm to the other. I have noticed that it is very hard to do any type of shoulder or chest work because i am big busted…

3 year hoop anniversary
3 years ago today, I was sitting on my bed with my best friend Allea, we were bored, and had some extra money, so she said, lets go to target, it was right down the street from my house so why not?
We were at target messing around in the toy isl and I saw some hula hoops, so we got one..
Ever sense that epic day my life has changed drastically, I went from being a person, so set on ending it, being so depressed everyday, 200 pounds of A destructive human, with no feeling of a real…

Bounce Festival!!!
I have one general admission pass and a car camping pass up for grabs. I purchased at full price plus service fees, so valued over $230. I am asking $150 for the ticket and $50 for the camp pass, or $180 combined. It's a sweeeet deal! Killer line up, yoga and hoop workshops, live art, camping in the Sierra Nevadas, what more could you want out of a festival? If you haven't heard of The Bounce, get yourself in the know! …

1st HoopCity Journal Entry
Hi.
I first became aware of hooping a little over a year ago. I would like to go to raves in Winnipeg where I lived, and there were often girls with LED hoops there. I thought of it as more of a performance thing, but soon came to realize people use normal hoops a lot of the time too. When I was at an outdoor music festival one day I bought a hoop for $20 and thought hopefully I would get into it.
It's a year later now and I've learned a lot :) hooping is the funnest thing…

Turning the corner...
Ever climb Mount Everest, or swim the ocean shore to shore or hike around the world? Have you ever taken a detour around a corner of a street under construction and felt like you rode two miles to go one block? I feel as though I have done all of those things in the two years I have been sick and recovering. On June 14th marks the two year anniversary of when I came home from the hospital and started this long recovery. My progress has been steady but slow and now I am coming to the…

loss of motivation
I haven't been the dedicated hooper i used to be. I used to live by the hoop, not leaving my home without it. No one ever had to ask me to hoop for them because i was already in motion. I never thought it would be possible to say no to hooping until this year. I still have the same love, understanding, and worth for hooping that I used to. I still lose myself in a hoop and can kill it. but because of the abilities i know i hold, it's almost like i don't need to be working because i know what…

When two out of three band members of a band you've been waiting months to see tells you they think you are a bad ass hula hoop dancer, it's hard not to be really happy. Yes. The impossible has happened to me a bunch of times this year. Didn't die. Woke up. Started walking. Started Hooping again. Started hoop dancing again. LED Hoop Class Jam - It's over :'(
OMG i'm so full of mixed emotions right now. I just had the best jam of my life, and got to borrow LED hoops and play, i even got a chance to try a futurehoop!! Holy crap is that so awesome. i wonder if it could replace my anti-depressants. And i really like the moodhoops too, they felt more 'sturdy' or heavier or somehow easier for me to work with than the psihoops which felt waaay light to my touch.

Kinetic Fire Changed My Hooping Life!
I just spent three days at a wonderful flow festival called Kinetic Fire. When I first heard about it, I thought it would be cool to go because it is close to my home town and there were a lot of big name spinners teaching at it. Then, I entered a video contest and ended up winning a free ticket! I'd probably say that this was the best birthday I've had to date.
A good majority of the people at the festival were poi spinners, but there were people representing all disciplines of…

I'm planning on making a 2 month hooping video sometime this week maybe or possibly next week when I get the chance to show how far I've progressed. So I'm looking forward to that :))
I just recently started on chest and shoulder hooping. Chest hooping I could do for a short amount of time but it wouldn't stay up when I first started but I've pretty much gotten that down now. But…

Looking for cheap grip tape? Try Hockey tape!
I've been using hockey grip tape that I purchased for 3 bucks a roll at a local sports place and it ROCKS! It doesn't leave a crappy film on my poly when it needs replacing, it grips like a dream AND its way cheaper than gaffer. It also comes in fun colors and designs, so yay for hockey tape! I will note that it does kind of fray in small strands and I pull them off as needed and have replaced the tape once a month on average. It certainly isn't as pretty as a nice clean gaff, but its just…

Hoop Camp 2013
I am thinking about attending Hoop Camp 2013. I think this will be the only year I can swing it financially, but I am concerned that it won't be worth the expense. I can't drive that far (to Cali from MN) alone and so the plane tickets would add to the camp ticket amount. Anyone who has attended or is thinking about attending or not, would you please help and give me some advice or reasoning as to why you are or are not going?
Thank you!

Rather than junk up the forum with 30 of these I figured I'd share my submission for this year's hoop troupe in my journal. Please share it if you like it or give it a thumbs up on youtube (: More views/likes = better! This would be such a monumental moment in my 3 year hoop journey.. Loves <3

Learning to Hoop
About three weeks ago I went into Target with the mission to buy a kettle bell weight. Since I'm easily distracted I looked around at all the other workout toys that were available for purchase. My eyes landed on a foam padded, weighted hula hoop. I thought, hey that looks pretty damn cool! So instead of coming home with a kettle bell, I also bought a hula hoop.
As soon as I got home I put the hoop together and started spinning it. Round and round it went! I was surprised I…

Hooping in my living room
well i'm still practicing the stuff from last weeks class but no matter what i try i still can't walk while hooping in my 37" hoop. i'm only on my second official week of hooping so it's something. I'm finding my 'ironman' hoop is kinda aptly named, it's fast and agile but just a little too fast for me to get the tricks i want down. i'm excited for tomorrow's class and to meet my new big blue hoop. hopefully it will help me learn some of this stuff a little faster.

I've only recorded myself one other time, and it was maybe three weeks after starting hooping. [Significant Other's Name Redacted] filmed it for me, and I felt really awkward having him watch me and I kept thinking how stupid I looked.
Yesterday I had an AWESOME morning hooping before work, so I thought why not try it again today?…

ive been hooping about every other day, it all depends on the weather and my energy levels. shoulder/chest hooping is still coming along, i can now take my arms out, and take one out at a time then switch and while waist hooping, i can shoot my arms down and get the hoop up my shoulders!! it feels soo good to see myself learning more and being able to do thing i once could not. took out some time to play with my smaller hoop and it was nice! definitely different, but im working on it. as…

Chest hooping is hell.
Spent an hour and a half out hooping this afternoon, haven't worked so much on knee hooping as the bruises from the other day hurt like a SOB and I don't want to make them worse. (Although I will admit, when the hoop starts finding its way towards my knees I don't entirely stop it.
Anywho, I spent most of today trying to get it up to my chest & keeping it there. Was successful at both, but not for long. Next task, I think is getting my arms INTO the…

Hi Hoopers. My mom, sister and I are holding a Universal Prayer of Peace at 5pm to celebrate my dad's life tomorrow at the beach by the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. He died this past Sunday at 11:21pm of cancer. He was just diagnosed 1 month ago. The love and support that has been surrounding my family has been incredible. I created this event nationwide so many others who love my dad will be holding their own ceremony at exactly the same time. I know none of you know him but he was a…

First day with my home made hoop :o
So I guess this space is for blogging about your progress, and even if it wasn't, that's how I'm going to use it because I think it will do me good to see the progress that way.
So I've been at this just over a week & made my own hoop (which is way better than the ones I had before) today was my first full day of the new hoop, which was awesome!
I managed to figure out the 'Escalator' trick & knee hooping. The backs of my knees hurt like a bitch. :p

A week in and going to my first class tomorrow
I'd be lying if i said i wasn't a bit nervous because i have no tricks, but i am better at keeping the hoop up then i was a week ago. for some reason my hoop runs diagonally across my stomach when i hoop so maybe it's a stance issue? Who knows at this point, but i am super happy to have the opportunity to learn how to do it properly. I'm planning on even going to spinout this year even. Here's to jumping into it with both feet and learning on the fly if i can :)

Hooping at Walmart
So, I'm walking through the local big box store, arguing with myself about whether or not to get the kettlebell I want. Workout equipment, or gas for the car? Of course, maintaining my means of transportation to work won.
Anyway, as I'm heading through to the front from the exercise equipment aisle, I hear a familiar "shoop shoop". I grin to myself and comment to no one in particular, "Someone's playing with a hoop."
Just then, I hear a plaintive cry: "I've…

Where To Get A Performance Hoop?
I Am Improving. Slowly. Very Slowly.
The Problem Is That I Can't Do ANY Tricks With My Weighted Hoop. You Guys Were Right- I Did Grow Into My Hoop And The Bruising Has Stopped, For The Most Part.
So, I Would Absolutely Adore It If Someone Could Tell Me Where I Could Get A Nice Performance Hoop(Or Whatever You Want To Call It). I Don't Need Anything Flashy Yet, Just Something I Can Do Tricks With And Practice Them On.

The light at the end is getting pretty dim
So my knee has almost completely given up on me doing any kind of physical activity. My heart is heavy and my hoops are lonely. I pick them up and twirl around as best I can, but in the end, the physical pain is too much to push through. Rest they say, let it heal they say, it will get better if only you let it. Sigh. Summer is right around the corner and my festival tickets are growing complacent. What's a festival without a little hooping and dancing?
I've been making such great…

got out for about 45 minutes in the sunshine today. i find it hard for me to concentrate on hooping when i dont have my head phones on. its almost like i lose my groove. i love waist hooping, it feels so great to control the hoop, slow it down, and speed it up all with the flow of my hips/core. i have been finding flow recently and that is such a liberating feeling. hooping has opened me up to a whole new way of life. and i am so much happier now.

So one month later, Ive learned:
There is no "one perfect hoop"
You will be bruised
Arnica cream works!
Hooping helps with my lack of flexibility
It really does help to move in a circle while doing ANY hooping.....
I have very little Ab power
My chest is square and the hoop is round
My hips are uneven
It's actually easier for me to hoop in heals!
Hooping is FUN!

Hoop Certification? Where to find the $$
I am going on 5 years in the hoop. I have had two babies and totally enjoyed my time. Last year I taught some impromptu hooping in the park. It took off big for me... People who came out told me they were comfortable learning from me. They told me that if I can do it they know they can to... So on and so forth. It made me feel good about myself and made me feel great as these wonderful people found love and joy in the hula hoop and begin to progress doing vortex's and step…

Changing my mindset
So, it's been a while since I posted anything here!
Things have been moving along- school is ending for this year, and my four giant final projects have kept me busy! We just started the new season of LARPing, too, so I get to go and be beat up (and beat people up!) every week. Soon, I shall go to Iceland for a fantastic vacation of fun and amazingness! And then I'll be back, and hopefully working full-time.
And also looking for a new job.
Anyways, hooping! I've been a…

Jeez, where to begin. I'm back at it again. After a several month hiatus, I have returned to my practice. In a way it feels like its been years.
Its been a long winter in central NY and I haven't really had a place to practice on a regular basis. I've had some short hoop sessions in the storage room at work and some cold nights of spinning fire in the snow.
Right now I find myself reflecting on why and how I started this journey. What hoop dance was to me when I started is so…

New to Hooping
I've have always been longing for a second passion and I've finally found it! :)
I have just recently started out hooping and I'm very excited to progress and get really good at it.
I'm just shy of one month of hooping. I'm really trying to challenge myself so I can learn a lot.

The great debate
I have finally (kind of) made up my mind regarding the controversial smart hoop purchase! Unfortunately my decision is going to require a LOT of patience, and giving up the hope to own one by festival season. I just really cannot settle for one that I like "almost" as much. SO, whoever decides to unleash their product to the public first wins my purchase! Secretly I am hoping the Phoenix kicks in to gear first (sooo much customization!) BUT I would be equally as enthralled to get my hands on…

Living in Dreams
Because I can't read and write to well after a few hours of being awake, I best hurry and type up my thoughts to save for the long novel I've been working on.
The story was all in my head when the main character rocked out with her favorite band, Kings of the Stone Age. Writing and scripting a made up life about a girl who broke her back and lost the life she knew is hard when I can't read or write too well. After a week or so of doing math homework, my brain hurts yet I…

"We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and famous?" Actually, who are you not to be? Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that people won’t feel insecure around you. Hula hooping! Who knew?
About a month ago (March 2013) I clicked on a random You Tube video on the side bar, "LED hula hoop girl" , of course one video led to the next (and the next and ....)where I found Safire, Anah (Hoopalicious) and Baxter from Hooppath and that's all she wrote! I was hooked. I started to figure out how to buy my first hoop. Waist height, no belly button height, Someone else says sternum height , 3/4" or 1" tubing? 100 psi 125 psi 160…
Three Months (Almost)!
Technically my three month isn't for like three days, but, since I usually forget the day-of I might as well be early this time. :)
It's FINALLY starting to act like spring outside, and with the nice weather my whole hoopitude has been revitalized. I picked up a handful of new moves (Babz's Christmas wrap, the energy ball, this behind-the-back/over-the-shoulder toss I have no name for) and I'm working on hooping with my elbows and bringing one leg in/out when knee hooping. Also,…
