I have accomplished hooping in the opposite direction.

My goal this month is to record and post an electronic journal of my progress, maybe once a week.

new tricks

Just learned two tricks that I have been practicing every now and then since last summer. I can put my leg back to the hoop after hooping on one leg and know how to lift the hoop just with using my legs and "stretching" the hoop with them to give it a push. Hard to explain. Just wanted to make a note for myself about this :) Let's see if I'm inspired enough to start making notes when I learn new tricks. Also have progressed a lot with vertical chest hooping. It has been hard for me and I…

Hoopdance and the Circle of Life.

Today was the last day of my 30 day trick-a-day hoopdance challenge & potentially the last day of my uncle's life.

He suffered a major stroke and couldn't say a word in response to me as my mother held a cell-phone to his ear so that I could speak to him as he lay in a hospital bed in Calgary. My Aunt's tears were contagious and soon I was crying. Though my mother spoke in a calm, steady voice she confided she was doing everything she could just to hold it…

Random stuff

I've really been neglecting my hoop journal even though awesome stuff has been happening in my hoop world. I'm going to Spin-out! My mother in law bought me the ticket for my birthday, her idea! I'm super excited for that. Also, I finally, after a year and a half, learned how to vertical hoop in my reverse current, and let me tell you how that has opened up my world. I can do knee reversals now! But the best part is using the other side of my body that way. It feels sooooo good. I'm really glad…

Final Day of My Trick-A-Day 30 Day Challenge! Not Sure About the Name of this Move!

That's all folks! Day 30 of my trick-a-day hoop challenge complete! This move is unnamed as far as I know...so I called it the double behind the back pass. Thanks to everyone who watched & commented and stay tuned for more as I plan on making a choreographed hoopdance including my new moves. It's been a blast. :3 *bows*

Here's today's new trick! I heard this move being called 'duck in & pop on' but that's too long, so I shortned it slightly- anyone else know another name for this one? It's groovy! But ow my head hurts from getting smacked so many times learning it. XD

Proof I wasn't crazy...

I can stand on my toes again and so I finally get to start working at hoop dancing in toes shoes. Right when I got home after spending a couple months locked in a hospital, I started feeling this crazy energy from something not in physical form. Talk to my brain doctor about seeing "things" and I try not to say that I think I see energy. Like when fire hooping in daylight, you see the energy of the heat in the shadow of the fire hoop. I see that everywhere, and more so when I'm afraid to…

I AM MY OWN CREATOR

Loosing 75 pounds has changed me.. for the better, i can do things I've never been able to do.. I can walk around in a skirt and my thighs don't rub together and bleed anymore.. when I do certain tricks my body moves more fluently, and effortless..  yes, some of that has to do with the fact that Hooping all the times helps get the tricks down, but when I was overweight it was hard for me to move... bending over... bending back.. getting on the ground.. getting back up..…

A world of endless possibilities.

First off, forgive me for being evasive. Late nights (or should I say early mornings) always heighten my emotions. Being someone who has dealt with anxiety for a great chuck of my life, I find the wee hours to be most substantial for me to clear my noggin', allowing me to honing in on my truest ambitions. I feel that more people than ever are 'waking up.' We are all starting to see the cracks in the structures built by those before us.

New Start

I really got into hooping back in 2010 and spent an entire summer obsessing over it, I got as far as chest hooping and everything. I have no room in my bedsit to practise and as the weather got chillier I put my hoop away and havent touched it since! I can't explain this laziness. I decided to start again, and yesterday took my hoop into work before they were open and hooped for a solid hour. I have bruises on my hips but I feel great :)

One month hooping and I feel free.

VI am three days shy of my one month hoopiversary. The progress I've achieved is phenomenal, however, there are definitly things I need to work on.

1.) I need to achieve proficiency on my opposite current. Particularly chest/shoulder hooping.

2.) My vertical chest hooping could be better. I need to practice transitions into vertical hooping.

3.) Transitions in general is something I should focus on. I want to bring together all the pieces and achieve a…

What a lovely day~

I woke up in a very awkward sort of mood. I had to let go of a beautiful cat I found just the other day because I realized she was pregnant and I just cannot have kittens... so I've been sort of bummed. It was such a beautiful day and my friend asked if I wanted to go to the park so I naturally jumped on the hooping opportunity :] It was so amazing! We spent 2 hours each at two different parks between water and smoke breaks. I taught my friend how to hoop and do a few tricks and he really…

Everything I'm working on, dance & hoop tricks wise, every single doctor told me I'd never do it again. The pain is killing me, but I must keep my dreams alive, or how else do I live?

Some people make this look so smooth- I find it pretty tough! I should probably reshoot this with a regular hoop because it looks so choppy with an LED light because you can tell it's not spinning when you step through and that it's just being held. I would need more light though! It was so dark and overcast today, I originally shot this with a regular hoop but switched to the led because you couldn't even see the hoop otherwise. XD

Inspiration?

So I've been hooping for almost 2 years now, and I seem to have fallen into a rut over this winter. Before that, I would take any chance to get outside and into my hoop.. lately, it's almost felt like a chore - my routine is rather stale, I'm bored of the music, and it's all left me just kind of blah. Since starting to hoop, I've read blogs and entries of people hitting a slump, but like with anything, I always thought, "not me!".. well.. now what? :P

Now, to be fair, I have…

Hooping with an Injury

Hi everyone! I've been a hooping addict and hoop performer for the past 3 years but it's been a bit of a struggle for me because I have an old injury that keeps bothering me. I broke my right foot about 10 years ago and it often gets inflamed and makes even walking a struggle at times. Immediately after I posted my 30 Day Rope Dart Challenge my friend Olga asked me to make ones for fire fans, staff and poi.  I do not want to do staff, hoops or poi because 30 Days would not even be the tip of the iceberg with those props.  Plus this has been very interesting for me since I know close to nothing about rope dart and fans.  The only downside with this one is that some of the videos are in Russian.

One-Month Hoopiversary!

It seems like the time flew by but my one-month was already three days ago so I figure it's about time I record my progress. I haven't gotten to hoop quite as much as I would have liked. It's wintertime in PA so outside isn't an option, plus I live in the middle of a city so I'd have to drive somewhere to find a grassy space anyway. NOT hooping on concrete if I can help it, I tried once and I was being careful and I still managed to scuff the shininess off a little bit. So I'm basically left…

Day 3: Leg/Ankle Hooping

Amazingly I found it WAY easier to do this move with my HDPE LED hoop as apposed to my lighter polypro that just kept bouncing off my legs and bruising my knees, back of leg, shins, ankles etc. I recommend practicing this with boots on 'cause when it hits your ankles or toes it reeeaaalllly hurts. XD

Here's a link to me managing to get the hoop below the knee and back up again!…

Day 2: Across the chest roll!

Smacked myself (and my boyfriend) in the face a few times learning this one...Also easier with a polypro as apposed to HDPE XD Once I got in the swing of it switching from side to side and back to chest it felt amazing.

Here's a link to me doing this move!

Beyond Newb

This summer of 2012 was full of first. First festivals ever attended, first time ever seeing someone hoop dance, and the first time I picked a hoop up myself... all within a few months of each other! What brings me here is a feeling that I am in need of good strong teaching and mentorship in life in general! I think most people do; ALL people do. I am looking for that in multiple areas right now, dance, expression and art included. I feel inspired by the rest of you. The advanced and…

Day 1: Across the back roll.

I've been wanting to learn this move for years!! I am amazed within 24 hours this was doable!

Here's a link to me doing this move. :) I definitely found it easier to do this with my light polypro practice hoop as apposed to my heavier HDPE LED hoop.

Levels

Everyone is at their own level of experience when it comes to spinning.  There are beginner, intermediate and advanced spinners, give or take there may be a couple different moments of experience between those three divisions.  Regardless of which point you are at with your spinning career, I have found that there is always something to learn from each level of experience and each individual.  By bringing this subject to light I hope to achieve recognition that we are all each other's…

Here we go again...

Once again, I've lost my passion for belly dancing. I went to a hoop jam with my best friend a week ago and ever since then, I'm obsessed with hooping again. There's nothing wrong with that, but it comes with a price. I can't quit belly dancing, I've committed so much time and money into it. I am fairly good at it as well, which is definitely a first for anything. There is a hafla coming up and I have a sword choreography to practice and create, but all I can think of is hooping. I don't…

Little Reptilian Flower Starchild inside an Egg with a Hoop;

For the past few years I have watched very close friends of mine evolve in the hoop, and for the past few years I had told myself there was no way I could ever be that graceful or skilled. I have FINALLY gotten to a point in my life, physically and spiritually, where I am more than ready to take on the challenge of flow. In fact, I'm gushing with emotion and anticipation - incubating myself until the summer is upon us and I may fly with the rest of you lovely hoopers.

So, I just…

And here I am again...

Its been almost two years since I have been on here... Wow! So much has happened. One of my reasons for coming back though, is I am going to try out for our schools talent show. I am a senior, so this will be the last year I can! I have been more open about myself, and figured this would make a bang. What im having issues with though, is the routine.

I would love to hoop to Bass Cannon by Flux Pavillion. I love the song. But should I hoop to match the beat, or just go out…

Really Frustrated

I'm kind of just stuck with waist hooping right now, and it's getting boring and frustrating pretty fast. Off-the-body tricks are out, because my ceiling is rather low, and my hoop rather big, and their meeting is forbidden. And when I try to hip or chest hoop... well, the hoop is just like "It's floor time!" and down it goes. Only once did I manage to catch it on my waist from my failed chest hooping.

Seriously, hip hooping shouldn't be this hard for me! I know I've got big hips, but…

2013

Work overload has been taking time away, needing hoop therapy to grow and expand my hooping skills. I haven't been able to be one with my hoop for a while now. Needing some inspiration and motivation. I know with my whole being that 2013 is going to be a wonderful, beautiful year and cannot wait to see what the universe has in store for me! High hopes in the now and in the future, Love and light <3

Back on track!

Yay, I hooped today!

And I learned a thing or two about the moves I've been working on. The lift up from waist to above the head has become easier, and I'm figuring out that I have to grab the hoop a lot earlier than I originally thought!

Next, I've discovered that neck hooping is relatively easy for me... but hip hooping really isn't! I have the movement down (it's just the same as belly dancing, actually) but I... maybe don't have the rhythm? It keeps dropping. I apparently…

Flow Tunes: Discovering and Re-Discovering

Many spinners will find that music is a strong component of prop spinning practice and performance.  The music that you listen to on a daily basis may or may not be the right music for you to groove out to when you're spinning.  Eventually we all fall into a flow tune rut.  The same songs just don't give you the same carefree feeling anymore.  The rest as follows will be categories of music to look towards for inspiration when spinning your props.

i'm a beginning hooper. I've been hooping for about a month. I have a hoop but the tape is pretty much nonexistant. i've watched some tutorials on how to tape the hoop the right way to make it look seamless. i totally get it and it seems easy but idk if i should buy my own tape and do it myself or if i should just by a premade hoop since i'm new to it and all. the price will be about the same for the tape + shipping and a premade hoop + shipping.

What would you do if you were in this…

Worse day of my life.

Yesturday, two puppies drowned under the ice of a river. One of those puppies was the brother of my belated dog, Serge. The other puppy was a five month old pit bull, Envy, who was way too sweet.

Maya and I just went over to my brother's house. I had three dog treats in my hand, one for each dog. I gave one to my brother's dog first. Then I gave one to the pitbull puppy. And when I handed Maya her dog treat, for the first time ever, even more so with other dogs around her, she refused…

Pop...and then fizzle

And that's basically how it's gone.

On Friday, I decided to refuse the idea of getting sick so completely, that I hooped for an hour. A full, straight hour of hooping! I was pretty tired by the end, but it felt great. I managed to lift up from waist to above my head twice without the hoop getting all weird... so, I know that it's possible to do consistently! I just need to keep practicing.

It was a lot more ab workout, and a lot more cardio than I expected, if I'm honest. The…

Entry 1

So, it's been a long time since I was on here... and it's also been a long time since I picked up a hoop! So much has happened, and I thought I might give a quick rundown of my dancing past, as well as my rest-of-life past.

First off, myself as now: I am a Writer, and I enjoy writing fantasy stories. I also love to read fantasy stories! I dream of one day being a published novelist, a freelance writer, and an editor. I also dream of owning a house out here in BC, on my own property,…

Day....22

Wow. Can you imagine it's almost the end of January! I feel like it was just yesterday that people were still trying to come up with their new years resolutions. I hope all of you have been successful in any and all of your goals.

I have been maintaining my daily hooping and am also considering continuing it for another 30 days or for a total of 90...maybe even a year (but I know some times life can be difficult and make that impossible). over the last couple of weeks there…

Just a plain old hooper.

I've prolly made a hundred hoops.  Sold a few, but mostly just give them away.  I made my own LED(prodmod) and my own fire hoop.  I don't want to write a depressing journal enrty, but at the same time I just feel like getting this out there.  I'll be 53 this summer and it feels like I've just been plodding along on my little dirt hoop path. Almost six years now.   My problem may be that I am a quiet ,awkward person.  I know there are hoopers nearby, even in this town.  None close to my age…

Seven Devils all around you.

Today I channeled a very unique flow through my mini's whilst dancing to Florence and the Machine. I am hoping that my efforts to reach out to hoopers here will be rewarded soon. I had an interview today, and of course I brought my hobby up. It's something interesting that most people don't know about, and are intrigued by. However, the manager that I interviewed with today said that he knew of hooping, and had a neighbor across the street who hooped in the warm days of summer. Of course, I…

What I lost, is how I gained

It started out like any other goal.. A goal to lose weight, psht right, I'd been trying to lose weight for so long now, like this time would be any different, but I guess I will try.. Hula hooping seems like it would be fun, and entertaining.. but how much weight could one person really loose right?

Starting out at A whopping 200 pounds, thats alot of weight... this is the heaviest I've ever been...

and so my journey begins...

June 10th 2010... weight 200 pounds... Hopefully…

Dodging Jealousy?

Hey hoopers !

Im writing today in hopes for a little feedback. I've got a silly girl situation that I don't really know how to combat. A supposed friend of mine keeps posting totally turd like comments on things I post on my own FB. First I deleted things... hoping that erasing it would cool off the situation. Then she came at me from her page for her hand made goods... which I liked to show her SUPPORT. Even though she has yet to return that same favor for my handmade hoops…

Imaginary Boundaries.

At first I was afraid that moving away from SoCal would extremely deter me from my hooping potential due to the lack of hoopers out here.

But that may not be true.

As I unpacked tonight, I paused and took my mini's in front of the mirror. I cranked up the music and just let myself flow. All the negative emotional residue was transformed into an angry and complex flow, a flow I only channeled once before.

Being isolated out here without fellow flow artists may be good for me.…
