Slowly making my way back home from Hoop Camp. What a freaking rush. I had such an amazing time.
I'd been to Hoop Path Retreat earlier this year, so I had the chance to be around some of my hoop heroes. I think that helped prepare me for Hoop Camp, where the whole starstruck thing wore off a lot quicker. Still, I got to hoop in the presence of some hoopers I greatly admire but hadn't met yet in person, such as Hoopalicious (!!!), Bunny Hoop Star from Australia, Shatki Sunfire,…

I have been looking and looking for something physical that I love to do, and want to do willingly all the time. I have a serious case of scoliosis and so my back hurts all the time. the doctors told me that swimming is the best thing that I can do. but I travel a lot and there is not a pool all the time, when I need one. This summer I hitchhiked through the west and I ended up at the Rainbow Gathering in Toas, New Mexico. there I traded for a hoop a girl made. when I got home it just sat in my…

Okay, so i made a second 100 psi hoop to match the one I've adopted as hoop numero uno. I took them out back, and proceeded to loose two hours of my evening. I haven't eVeR hooped that long without taking a break. It was so much fun. There were incredibly frustrating moments, since this is only the second time I've hooped with two hoops for more than a few minutes, but for the most part it was the most satisfying thing I've done...in...months. For sure. I played with one hoop for a while, too.…

is so good for me! i am finally doing yoga again with some regularity. it is something that i know is incredibly beneficial to me, and so last week I started doing twenty minutes or so a day, and I already feel much better. I just need to become dedicated to it! I figure if I journal about it, maybe I'll remember how important it is. :-P My breathing is easier, my balance is better, and I am much more calm. Yum, yoga for breakfast.

So Sept 15th is my 3 month anniversary. My goal for the winter is to practice practice practice vert chest hooping. A bonus goal will be knee hooping.
I need to find somewhere to hoop inside during the rainy time too...I can hoop inside at work but I can exactly play tunes and wear the right clothes there. So I'm hoping I can locate a place to go near home this winter.
I'd like to get a video of myself but we'll see.

My worst injury to date, even though I bruise easily I am used to ones one my knees and upper arms from doing breaks. But yesterday i was still mastering foot hooping using only a lightweight hoop when it flew off and banged me between the eyes...it stunned me and made me cry!
I am using lots of arnica right now in all forms but have almost a black eye...I'll leave practising foot hooping again until next week...:-)

I'm getting better at moving the hoop down from my waist to my hips, and maintaining the hoop there (my Hoopnotica 1 dvd helped). But, the giant left hip bruise is back---which I expected since my form wasn't the greatest---my badge, as someone on here called it. I can hoop on the hips in both directions, but sometimes still have a hard time getting the hoop down, but I know with practice I'll be a whiz in no time.

After our brief love affair at Shambhala I was hooked.
Since then I have purchased the first two lessons offered here at Hoop City. and I can now say with some confidence that I am a true beginner hoopist.
I can waist hoop, I can do a slow vortex, I can hand hoop, and I just learned how to chest hoop!
This is some feat for me, as I do not possess any dance skillz or eye hand co-ordination, or strength or movement goodness in general....

I had a great time at the free workshop in Kenilworth park on Tuesday. I'm not sure if it was the hooping that afternoon, the sad attempts at unicycle riding a little bit later, hooping on rollarskates, the two hour workshop, or the long wandering walk in search of the burn afterward, but my legs sure were sore. I consider that the sign of a great afternoon!

ONe thing that seems to happen after becoming an avid hooper is that you learn how to contruct your own hoops. New tricks seem like they would work better with a smaller, bigger, heavier, or lighter hoop - you watched a video and were in awe of the mini's with which someone was rocking out. You must have them. ALL!
So you start making a few hoops... You learn how to constuct and tape and your collection slowly (or rapidly) builds - then, one day you realize - hey - I could probably…

I was first amazed by hoop dancing (as most people are amazed by the first sight of it) in May of 2008. I was about to graduate from UC Davis, it was a Sunday, and I was on the quad with three other friends listening to music and talking about our future endeavors.

Our friends are so awesome. Everyone helped out, and the other mother who was co-throwing the party did an amazing job with decorations. Ima post some pictures, but it was awesome. I am tired, but i get to hoop before bed. I didn't hoop til at the party for the past three days, due to party prepping. Eek!

I'm so glad to have found this wonderful community of hoopers! I have felt so inspired in my hooping since i have joined. Yesterday i (almost) got down a new trick and got MUCH better with a couple moves I've been working on. Thank you to all of you wonderful hoopers for creating such an amazing vibe and inclusive environment where all are welcome to share and learn.

It seems that with a full time job, teaching hooping classes, getting my son to band and his job, practicing hooping, promoting my classes, cooking, cleaning the house (notice that came last ;), there is no time left. Thankfully when I am in the hoop, everything stands still for just a little while. Time doesn't seem to exist, just me the hoop and whatever music is on. How blessed we are that we have something that not only gives us exercise, but a euphoric sense of peace as we perform that…

at midnite i was hooping my usual spot, on the crummy basketball court in the middle of my block. but some damn dog was barking everytime i made any itty bitty noise. it got so annoying. so to avoid trouble (and cops and 15 year old klepto kids out past curfew), i took a drive out to Park and Ride bout 3 miles out of town. it was nice i was the only one out there, and had a good view of the town. the stars were beautiful tonight. no moon, so the sky was thick with them.
i jammed out…

I've just removed a hoop friend that I think might actually be a social networking spambot rather than a hooper. Boo!
Work schedule shifted earlier and I am still adjusting. Plus I woke up from a post yoga nap with a splitting headache. Yay.
But at least I am back in yoga and I supposedly start dance class Saturday, if they get enough people. I hope so.
My one legged hooping, which I tried on a lark and persisted because of stubborn, is getting better. I notice…

Nigel and I went on vacation earlier this month. I got back to work last Tuesday and the real world is no fun.
We spent a few days with friends in Vancouver, and then hit Seattle to meet up with my bestie and see Depeche Mode. Cue the arm clutching, frantic dancing, OMG I can't believe this is really happening, crying tears of joy moments. Dave Gahan can twirl like nothing I have ever seen. I am dying to give that man a hoop and see what he can do. Heather and I have both wanted to…

I ordered my new hoop a few days ago, (a hynotica travel hoop) and I am eagerly awaiting it's arrival. I've been sitting at my computer surfing the net, and filling up on watching others show off their stuff on video. I've been so inspired, I can barely sit still. I can hardly wait.
A couple weeks ago, I celebrated my 50th birthday...my back hurts, I'd like to loose a few pounds, build energy, increase stamina, tone up, and strengthen my core. I know how important it is to exercise,…

My daughter is turning three next week, and we're having this awesome party for her and one of my friend's daughters, who is turning 5. It's gonna be awesome. It's at a park, and we're having face painting, a bracelet making area, a happy hardcore dj, a hooping area, games, and this bomb rainbow pinata. It's gonna be super fun. I'm making hoops today for the hooping area. I'm making rainbow cake, and we're having a taco bar. I have a ton of homework, though. I need to clone myself....

so i finally figured out one-shoulder hooping last night!
let me confess this before i go on: i have most of my hooping breakthroughs when i've got a bit of a buzz going. i think it's because i'm loosened up physically, and i'm more interested in having fun and not worrying so much about how OMG i suck at hooping.
anyways, so the boyfriend and i took the dog out so he could run around and do his business while we played with our respective big kid toys (my hoop and his…

So me and my wonderful friend Suzanne just started up a Sunday Spin Day at our local park! This past sunday was the first and it went sooo well! We had quite a few girls show up to hoop and a group full of amazing drummers and guitarists to play music for us! I had so much fun!
The only thing that bothers me (and I know I shouldn't let it but I cant help it)are all the ignorant fearful people out there that immediately degrade something new to them!
We were all minding our own…

So, it's been just a little over a month since I've started hooping. Move-in day for college was this past Saturday and I'm finally settled in. My parents asked me if I was going to bring my hoop with me and I said "Of course!!" within one second of them asking.
Saturday night our RA, Paige, was stopping by our rooms to check up on us, and she saw my hoop. She asked about it and asked what else I could do with it. I told her about how I got started hooping and different things that…

STORY TIME! Writing is another one of my favorite things to do... so If you don't mind, I'm gonna practice now. =)
I work at a toy store. When their summer collection came out, they had an assortment of plastic hoops & skip-its. The hoops were child sized and weightless; I'm already spoiled by the poly hoops & grip tape, so the best part was the trio of flashing LED lights activated by bumping it. Lucky me, in between maintaining the store, there's always time to play! As…

Also in the last couple of days, i've been anticipating the arrival of my burlesque kitten hoop, made by the lovely Lulu Hoop, and i'll be in the kitchen just doing up some dishes, jamming with my music blaring, and i'll burst into hoop dance!!!... yea. today is a bad hoop day. i've been working on my routine for the hooprama hoop troupe audition next sunday and I can't even get simple moves right today. I keep bumping the hoop into my leg or launching it into something nearby or dropping it....everything is just going wrong! Out of about 30 attempts or so to hoop to the song, I've successfully completed one. I'm so frustrated now, I don't even know if I still want to audition. I hate choreographing moves, so my routine only has 3 small…

Working. Working working working. In spare time trying to drum up interest in a friend's movie (um, go see Bandslam, you guys, I promise it is not High School Musical 4.5, it is funny and charming and heartbreaking and so not what the preview trailers make it out to be).
Regging for my contemporary dance classes Saturday, class itself starts next weekend.
I've had very little formal dance training - and not in 14 years. And never contemporary.…

Hi Hoopers! It's been about three years and I'm probably the loneliest hooper I know... but not for long.

Okay, annnnnnd there's a journal. It's a site full of friendly hoopers! This isn't not what I needed to find a week before school starts! I don't have time. I'm going to be watching videos instead of doing papers. Bad news bison. I'm excited for my semester to start, but at the same time I'm concerned with the hoop time I'll be losing. This was my first summer with a hula hoop. It's been outstanding! I caught this bug bAd. I've been hooping for just over five months, and i do nOt want winter…

I bought a hoop a few years ago but never really used it seriously until I started to go back to school in 2008. My son was 3 years old, and I had been living a quite active lifestyle until then. The sedentary lifestyle of classrooms and studying got me down; I need activity to keep not just my body but my mind healthy. Being a student, I was poor, of course, so I didn't have many opportunities to treat myself, go out for dinners with my partner, go on family vacations, and the like. And since…

That's all I can think. Why. Such a wonderful person, with a great smile and, as described so accurately by Braska, an infectious laugh. I'm not bothering to stop my tears when they come, on and off for the last hour and a half since I woke up. I woke up hoping it was all a super awful nightmare or someone's sadistic idea of a prank but it's. Not. Frankie, you're really gone and I don't know why or even begin to understand.

I have a friend who sort of collects hobbies. I might have gotten her interested in hooping, but she never really did much with it after we explored it a bit. She bought a hoop and both hoopnotica dvds. She's moving from Boston to Seattle in the beginning of September and she's looking to unload some stuff. I've pretty much stolen her hoop from her, but she's still got both of the Hoopnotica dvds. I'm wondering if anyone here would like them. I'm not sure if she's selling them or just giving…

I must do this again. I hooped in the woods today. I had taken the boys to meet some friends and their kids, and I took hoopy, and I did a few drills while they sat and chatted, and then my friends daughter came over and put her I-pod on the ground near me and said "here you can dance to that", and she played some Christina Aguilera for me. I hooped for ages to it, and I actually felt like I was dancing, for the first time ever. Had an awesome time and my day felt better because the hooping…
