We southerners finally have an awesome fire festival/retreat! Check out FLAME festival 2013, it's a great time. I'll be teaching this year alongside some incredibly talented flow artists from all over the country. It's…

i started a new fascination with hooping after my friend rebecca and i saw safrie's lyrical routine with a hoop. from then on it was all up hill for hooping since!! we made our first hoops a little more then a month ago and now all i want to do is learn more.
i found hooping to be the one thing that no matter if i'm having a good or bad day, it's always fun. and that's how i've been treating hooping, is that's it's all in good fun.
i feel i've come a long way since day one (i…

So today I had a sour experience that left a bad taste in my mouth. I bought gum; it didn't help. I now cannot rinse out the taste of being disrespected by the fitness world. I was given the bitter reminder that hula-hoops, to some, are really just toys... and toys and business do not mix. Especially here in the Coal Hole. Well, here's my story;
I am an instructor of Hoop Dance Fitness. My latest attempt at getting the hoops spinning in my area has finally gained momentum and…
So the past few weeks I have been gathering resources (and confidence) to email some potential gyms and fitness studios around town about teaching a hoopdancing class. Unfortunately, none of those people have replied, BUT I was talking with my bosses about it and they agreed to let me rent the building and teach classes there!! After we discussed it, I went out and found a good waiver form (well actually, I created one by combining multiple random dance class waivers) and printed it off…
So I take yoga classes, and I've come up with the best rationalization for getting more hooping classes. Get this: I pay 40 dollars a month for yoga classes. Paying 55$ for a hoop class that might well take me 2-3 months to snail my way through isn't really that bad!
I bought the mini hooping class last week and I've been really amazed at how happy I am to just rock the first lesson. (I really want to get my planes straight and even before I try anything else so that I've got a good…
I am up much to early for a Saturday!!!!
Work today!
I went to a beginners hoop dance class last night.
I was alot of fun. I have taught myself alot of what we learned yesterday, but I did pick up a few pointers, and angle hooping.
Which I now need to practice.
Can't wait for the next class :)
On a different strange note...
I saw a UFO last night I think.
Now I'm not saying it was extra-terrestrial, but it was....something different than what one…
The Pixies are super excited to head back up into the mountains again this sumer to help spread the hoop love around. Come out and hoop with us, learn some new tricks, meet other hoopers and help to co-create the hooping community at one of our favorite BC festivals of the summer! If you have some new moves that you want to share, jump in and teach us! We hope that these workshops will help bring together all of the hoopers at Shambhala into one…

I've decided I want to teach some hoop classes this summer, maybe in a park or the community center if I can get a spot for cheap there. I really need some money plus I've been thinking about teaching hooping for a while now. Not sure if I'm the greatest teacher in the world, but hey, practice makes perfect, right? And I taught my friend a few tricks already, but then again she catches on fast.
I'm not sure how to advertise the classes. I know I'm definitely going to make…

I am sooo happy to announce, Hava Hoop's first hoop booth was a success! Thank you to all who came out to the Breath of Life Festival on March 13th! I met some amazing people, both already hooping, and interested in learning.
I have recently returned from the Teacher Certification Training, taught by Hoopalicious, of Hoop Revolution. What a treat! I am proud to say that I am now very confident in teaching both hoop fitness and hoop dance students!
okay, so i have my demo tomorrow at freakin 9 am, i am sick as hell and its only getting worse, i havent been able to practice myself for the last week because of HORRIBLE weather and NO inside room. I was going to make a CD of my fav songs to hoop to just so that i have some good tunes going even if we arent hooping the whole time (and now i have to use Itunes which i def dont understand and neither does my roomie whose computer the mac is). I thought that i had down pretty much what i wanted…
Okay, so I keep putting off getting a beginners class together to teach. I constantly have my friends and family encouraging me to "make money" off of my "talent". Technically this isn't really the way I feel about it. Do I love hoop dance? yes! Do I love spreading hoop love? absolutely! Do I even like a little extra cash every once in a while? who doesn't? For months I have been making excuses so that I wouldn't have to be responsible for such an undertaking.......i.e. I just don't have the…
My dance classes are starting up next Tuesday at Irvine Valley Community College. I'm teaching through their community education dept. So you don't have to be a student. ;-)
Classes will cover some of the basic foundation moves used in Hoop Dance, including hooping at the waist, hips, neck, arms and hands, as well as basic reversals and some fun off body moves/tricks. Emphasis will be on connecting with your hoop and your body, learning how to dance with…
Ok. So today is my first official day of my summer. I finished calculating my student's grades, had a nice weekend with J and now he's back at work and it's just me, the cat, our apartment and the world outside. I'm done with my job at the college, schools out for summer and the woman I was replacing is coming back next fall... we think. People aren't signing up for French classes at the other school where I part-time, so aside from a private here and there, I'm unemployed for a bit. I need to…
great week equals three day weekend off work...minor rain set backs but no fear a studio is near. thats right who new the gym had a studio that i could use 24/7 i pay 30$ a mth and i even get gym equipment. wow i just thought those places were a waste. they totally sold me on it.. and the fact the guy could right cursive upside down on my folder...impressive
then it gets better b/c target has the cutest clothes today and i shopped like a mad man..
then...tons and tons of…
Literally. I've had two visits to the dermatologist these past two weeks and now I'm looking like Frankenstien's bride. I had two cysts removed, a small one on my shin last week and a large one on my back that had ruptured was removed yesterday. I feel so much better now that they are gone, but I look pretty horrorshow.
I've got a class starting tonight in Allen, and thank the stars for Jessica who's coming to help demo the first class. This is the first time I'm running with a…

Every time I check back on the site there are like 20 more hoopers in our community! I'm so excited!
This is going to be really cool. Best of all we can really make it our own space. I've been in hoop groups on Facebook but never got involved in the discussions or wall. It just didn't click with me.
So I've been doing some changes to the prices of the classes, as well as the dates they will start. I decided it would be a…
